  • Russian language is sooo beautiful. (^_^)

  • MY FAVOURITE RUSSIAN CARTOON THANKSSS A LOT I ALWAYS CRY IN THE END

  • @doymajyan sorry, That's not The way The original "Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid" story ended. :(

  • Thank you so much for uploading :) I was very curious about this one

It's very beautiful, and thank you for the subtitles :)

  • disney got nothing on this.....

i am joking of course, terrible animation.

  • @Avatarass The animation in this is gorgeous. I find it to be far more authentic and soulful than Disney's, and I think it fits the sombre mood of the original story much better.

  • @xXRubella666Xx Dude this piece of crap animation can be done with flash nowadays. Thats what all those cartoon studios do nowadays. Thats why all they suck.

  • @Avatarass It can't be done in Flash. A Flash version would look smoother and shiner, sure, but it'd be lacking something important. Why can't kids today appreciate handmade animation? Why does everything have to be done on a computer now for it to be good? Computer's great, but there are some things it just can't do. Capturing the humanity of this version is one of them.

I guess we'll have to just agree to disagree on this. *shrug*

  • @xXRubella666Xx did you even read my comment? I am saying this looks like flash and call flesh crap. This is barely hand drawn animation. Its often just cells moving relative to each other, like in flash.

  • @Avatarass Ah, I see. I suspect they had to do it that way due to a lack of funding.

  • @xXRubella666Xx

This is art. Its not a children-business

  • @faenjegerkul I wholeheartedly agree with that statement.

  • @faenjegerkul

    It's obviously made for children.

  • @xXRubella666Xx

I appreciate hand drawn animation. :P

  • @Avatarass

    This is beautiful animation.

  • the whole video is a true work of art.

  • i don't like the animation. it scares me!

  • @gatchanpoh000

    Why??

  • @Shachah223 it just reminded me of the scary book that i had when i was a kid and the way that the characters and backgrounds were drawn in my book is the same w/ this movie. that's why :D

  • the movie was like a painting.

  • Thank You!

  • Reminds me of Tezukas older stuff. Thanks for upploading :)

  • well my sound isn't working so i can't tell if the music is on here. but one big question. What the hell is the song the mermaid sings and wheree can i get it. its the most beautiful thing i;ve heard in ages? does anyoneb know where i can get an mp3?

  • Thank you very much for uploading this! I used to watch this when I was little. :)

  • When the mermaid sings of the bravery of the prince and that he should not be destroyed, then later at the end of the movie the song is repeated and so suggests she, the mermaid also lives on after death and is rewarded. Great video, thanks for uploading this!

  • Did this air on American television in the late 60s or 70s?

  • @Xearf I really doubt it. Unfortunately we had the cold war going from the end of WWII until 1991. It's such a beautiful cartoon and telling of the story. I really wish I knew the soprano's name that sings for the mermaid.

  • @IngenuousSoprano I ask, because my mother swears up and down that an animated film called "The Littlest Mermaid" aired on TV in black and white. I've gone through all the mermaid cartoons I could find that were made in the time of her youth, and this one seemed to be most familiar to her. But she really doesn't remember any details. She only ever caught the film in the middle.

  • I cant believe this old cartoon is from 1968 it looks zo amazing.

  • I made my own .srt file from your subtitles, so I just want to say THANK YOU

  • Comment removed

  • ugh! In need of english subtitles!!!

  • Hey it's Toccata and Fugue in D minor!

  • I have this on one my Roman Studios videos! (In English) I used to love these videos.

  • creepy...

  • خيلي ممنون

  • does anyone have the subtitles? i would really really need them.

  • nope, sorry - I did the subtitles for these videos and the hard drive of my old laptop (which had the .srt files) broke, so the subtitles only survive in the videos.

  • @yeliza0veta what I did was I made my own .srt file from your subtitles (which took forever - the times weren't exactly the same). I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU I love this version, and to find my video go to bemusingjobingo on vimeo, - in the description is the link to my .srt file. Hope that helps.

  • можешь скинуть куда-ybm мультик?очень нужен!!!

  • Old style animation! I been looking for this movie with English. Even though it's not the original with actors, the movie is still so beautiful. Thanks for translating!

  • Can you tell me where to find the .srt file for this one? I've had the original video for long, but I don't have any subtitles at all. :(

  • hi foxlady, I actually subtitled this myself, so the .srt file isn't out there. i would send it to you but the hard drive broke on the computer i used to do this :(

  • This is wonderful! But there might be a way to recover the subtitles. I think there's a plugin for VirtualDub that can make subtitle files from subtitles that are hardcoded into a video file. I'm going to see if I can find it...

  • I found it... it's called PodPis.

  • вам-то зачем теперь это заказывать?)))

  • Does anyone know if this is on DVD? Or even VHS? Can it be ordered? It is breath taking!

  • I was trying to find this film for so long, thank you:))

  • Beautiful art, like Kay Neilsen

  • I thought so too!!!

  • @wickedfeylady

Yes! Very similar to Kay Nielsen art for the first (and never made during Walt Disney's life) version of "The Little Mermaid" in the 1940's...

  • @Simioombudo Wouldn't you love to have seen that? I bet it would have been lovely

  • @wickedfeylady

Sure! The 1940's Disney version for "The Little Mermaid" was certainlly closer to the original than the 1989 version. Nothing wrong with the 1989 version (I a huge fan fan of Disney's The Little Mermaid) but the original tale is really sad and beautiful too...

  • @wickedfeylady so, we can all say, the our great big Soviet is copies 1955 concepts of the Disney's The Little Mermaid. Так что я могу сказать, что наш чудесный СССР спер для создания мультфильма, концепты 1955 года, которые должны были стать основой для Русалочки студии Уолта Диснея...

Но я все равно очень люблю этот мультфильм.

  • this version is far superior

  • Too bad they took downthe one without subtitles. I like not understanding it but knowing the story :P

  • the animation sort of reminds me of Persepolis =]

  • i love the art!

  • The song is so beautiful and sad! I love it!

Please! somebody knows the name of this beautiful song ?

  • If you want, I can send the mp3 of this song... but quality isn't high)

  • @vladimirlensky can you please send me one too?

  • actually this was the originall one isnt?

  • I had been looking for this for years and the only clue I had was that I knew it was russian animation! Youtube is the bomb :P

  • finally! my friend has been going on about this and kept telling me that the little mermaid died, she failed to tell me it wasn't disney. Stupid girl! but yeah...tis sad.

  • You have no idea how grateful I am to you for uploading this..

  • Cartoons affect moral values in the whole society.

  • Cartoons affect the emergence of moral values in childhood - thats most important.

  • you did well on translation спасибо

  • OMG! As I was watching this, I thought to myself, "wow this animation reminds me of this movie I have called, 'The Magic Pony'" and - HA! look at that! The Magic Pony is from Russia too! (mine is dubbed XD) I guess this is their style of animation? I like it! it's so different ^.^

  • This movie is still broadcasted here but dubbed in Spanish, I have seen it a month ago :D I love it, it has a very elegant aesthetic.

  • This video is awesome. Very beautiful!

    Many many thanks.

  • You are confused, this is Holmes' violin)) A Little Mermaid sings wonderfully.

  • this version has an abstract feeling about it... and the ending was :(

  • this version is a very artistic version of the little mermaid and i think that the mermaid was drawn pretty in this but i think the character artists should of done the mermaids sisters different to the lttle mermaid because she was ment to be classified as the prettiest mermaid , whats the point of that is they all look the same . this versin was kool , its new to me tho , i also like the anime version and the verson where the mermaid has orange hair and tail . k

  • I think the emphasis is placed on having internal different from her sisters. You remember, perhaps, that she was always very dreamy and thoughtful... A senior mermaids more "earthly".

  • los chilenos dicen que hacen cosasmejores que esta

  • I remember I watched this on television one time. I am so glad you redownloaded on Youtube! Thank you so much!

  • Thank you!!!

I really loved this in my childhood ^^ !!!

The animation is so amazing!!! tnx for share!!!

  • What did the fish mean that love did not exist?

  • It's just the point of him

  • i understand more this language thank you

  • I like the design!!! It's so beautiful!!! A little like Klimt or Breasdley...

  • actually Kay Nielsen (a great artist and big follower of Beardsley) made the character design for original`s Disney`s Little Mermaid cartoon, which was never concluded. Nielsen also worked in some of Disney`s Fantasia (the 2 last "chapters") Great Stuff.

  • Moy lubimiy Ruski multik. Samaya lutchaya versiya Rusalochki, mne kazhetsa.

  • I never knew that there were so many "Little Mermaid" movies. I've never seen this one.

  • ..the credits music i mean...

  • jajajajaja boyiii

  • The Music is terrific! :)

  • yes I'm looking for it to download it

  • Yay, it's in english now on youtube! :D Thank you!!!

  • I found the one without subtitles a while ago. Glad I can now understand what they're saying now though! Thanks!

  • I love this! I watched it so many times when I was little, it brings me so many memories :D

  • I remember this animated movie. I saw it in french when I was a child, I always loved the design, it's so beautiful.

Thank you so much to have post it :)

  • This is a wonderful short! The 1960's were a very important time for Soviet animation. The change of style that animators like Khitruk and Aksenchuk (the director of this piece) brought stimulated a move away from Disney like productions.

  • please can you tell me were can I find more information of Khitruk and Aksenchuk? please...

  • I saw this when I was really little, it was an English-dubbed version, and I never thought I'd ever see it again! Thanks for putting it up!

  • OMG!!! I never thought you'd take me seriously when I jokingly told you to go fansub Russian cartoons. I love you so very, very much! *Gives a big hug*

You are by far the best! Thank you!

And you were right about me loving this cartoon; it simply gorgeous! It's so well done; even though it's 40 years old, you couldn't tell because it just looks artsistic!
