Being a lesbian, I think it's great that she made a gay character, especially one that can really have no bad spoken about him. However, it's a tad late to mention it after the series has ended.
u know what jk rowling?? i love ur books. great pieces of work. u really kinda broke mine and many other fans hearts im sure by.. oh i dont know... MAKING DUMBLEDORE GAY!??? U RUINED HIS REPUTATION!!!! HE WAS LIKE THE COOLEST BEFORE I HEARD U MADE HIM GAY!!! WHY!!!? WHY!!!! DAMMIT!!
Yeah, I hated the Epilogue. I mean James and Lily? And what are Rose and Hugo supposed to mean? besides sharing their parents' initials that is. As for this revelation, I'm having mixed feelings about it. On one hand, I don't have anything against homosexuals. On the other, I am a fan of Minerva/Dumbledore. Oh well...time will tell...
Are you fucking stupid, saying J.K Rowling doesnt know what she is talking about? she wrote the dame books, she made up Dumbledore i think she would know better then you!
hitkid84 what great dummy you are you shouldn't talk about Dumbledore that way you don't even know if it is true, but I can't believe Rowling would say such a thing she caused the rumor if she would have kept her mouth shut this would have never happened to poor Dumbledore

I dont understand you people, well some of you. First off....its a character in a book, and secondly, hating a character (this is only directed to a few people who commented here) because of his sexuality...says quite a bit about yourselves.
He's still the same old Dumbledore, and it's not as if he's a pedophile. He isn't like modern day homosexuals, I am not a homophobe, but modern homosexuals do some crazy things, he's still the same old Albus Dumbledore.
...It's her character dude. She has no reason to lie. Besides, even if it just struck her recently, and I doubt it did, that's her choice. She created Dumbledore.
well this doesnt change it at all unless ur homophobic, his actions in the books remain the same, ignoring his sexuality, which as commented has never been mentioned in the book anyways.
lol....it doesnt really change the character much...his sexuality was never really mentioned..in any of the books....i still love it...oh and the fact that he is gay doesnt mean he was in love with every male character he showed care for...lmao
i was gob-smacked wen i found out which was today. first when i read it in a website i thought it was rumours and they wer bluffing then i read it on BBC which confirmed it. WOW i mean my gawd but his still the same Dumbledore no matter whether his straight or gay... i also don't get why ppl say his diff coz its not like he woz hitting on any1 ov his students he jus lyked grindelwald an all...
If she really wanted to be controversial, she should have revealed that the reason Granger was getting such high marks is because she was giving all the male teachers a blow on the old magic wand.
I was really let down. Dumbledore sure as hell didn't seem like a fairy to me. An attention-grabbing stunt on JK Rowling's part that I honestly think is gonna backfire on here somehow.
It'll change some people's outlooks on him. Not mine, I still think ole DD was kick-ass. But some people are going to think different nd it's gonna be a big grease spot on Rowling's rep. However, as all things in Celebrity Scandal, it'll pass.
In my opinion people are CHOOSING to view him differently. The fact that he's gay doesn't change his character at all. People were saying that the fact that he's gay changes his relationship with the students, but just because he's gay it doesn't make him a pedophile or anything. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't change your outlook on him though.
if you really want to make a bold massage say he's gay IN the book, in part 7 we learn mutch about Dumbledore's past but nothing says to me ''he's gay''
i respect Rowling but if you really want too sent a clear massage make the main hero gay...like Harry himself and make him fall in love with Ron...don't just say ''Dumbledore?...oh he's gay''because its not in the books you din't really sent the 'clear' massage
(2) also Dumbledore seems like a Jedi too me he's wise powerfull and lives like a monk i never saw any sign in the books or movies that he had a eye on men...or woman
I agree with LogicalDemon. In my 13-year old opinion, I feel that Rowling's attention-grabbing antics backfired on her. It was just some immature scheme to gain more limelight. Not the best move on Rowling's part.
It wasn't an immature scheme...In her mind Dumbledore is gay, but she most likely wanted everyone to be able to imagine him in their own way. His sexuality probably didn't matter to her enough to mention it, but since the question came up, she answered it.
Even if Rowling did mean for him to be gay, that doesn't make him any less the dynamic character that he is. And I'm the reader, so I'll interpret him however I want to :p, and when I read the books he wasn't straight or gay. He just wasn't....romantically involved lol.
Good for you ^_^ I find it fun to be able to choose what material (outside of the books) I consider canon, I never quite understood when people freaked out because of something JKR said. I guess knowing that what they think about it isn't what the author intended can ruin it for some people.
There was one very... suggestive sentence... thankfully I didn't notice it at the time.
I don't belive it it cant be true my friends told me but i never heard it any where but from them till mow but why did jk make him gay why did she have to reveal such a devistating fact that a hero like that is indeed gay did harry know did snape know why didn't the characters know she could've kept her trap shut cause now that the world knows a great all-time wizard is gay won't they stop readind why did she spoil our great memories about the greatest dead wizard to ever live?
So a gay can't be a hero? If that's what you're saying, you're truly discriminating.
And about the other characters: how could they possibly know about it? In DH it is stated bye Dumbledore's brother that Dumbledore was a master of keeping things secret. By that, he was probably like 150 years old and he never told anyone about his childhood. Why would he admit he felt attracted to one of the most dark wizards ever lived? That would only harm his reputation, aye?
i cant tell if Jo Rowling is serious or not, whether she had this idea through-out the whole series or just came up with it when the fan asked. I love the books/films to death and this doesnt affect my opinion for dumbledore as a character atall, i think hes great, but i just dont know what Jo's motives were for sharing this peice of infomation, although looking back.. there were a few characteristics that would suggest he was.. either way cant wait for HBP.
It's late but I agree with you. That dude makes DD out to be a psycho!! He can't control his emotions and he's all over the place. Where's the quirkiness and the twinkle in the eye. I know he's already played one long haired wizard but they should have got Ian Mckellan to play DD. He's how I picture him to be and he would have done a brilliant job!!
Yea Ian Mckellan is gay but that's not why I think he would make a good DD. DD and Gandalf are basically the same person but I doubt he'd want to play the same person again.
Asking innocently if Dumbledore ever finds love, and getting a response that he's gay makes absolutely no sense at all. It sounds more like she's trying to make a political statement rather than keeping Harry Potter as a story. It really doesn't even make sense, is there a book in the series that talks about his love life? J.K. Rowling had to faggetize a character. Lets have a threesome while we're at it.

Ok this is a "Big Lebowski" line so if you haven't scene it, you want get it, so here it goes, "Fucking Dumbledore, that creep can roll man." Walter "yea dude but hes a perfect"
Walter again "No, he got six months in Chino for exposing himself to an 8 year" " when he moved to Hollywood, he had to tell every body he was a "pederass" "whats a pederass walter" replied Donnie "shut the fuck up Donnie" quickly to Donnie. Dumbledore " are you guys ready to be fucked???
who fuckin care he is a fictional character what does it matter the book is about harry potter no one needs to no who his headmaster is having sex with god ppl are taking this way out of context
Aww man! Why Dumbledore? It would have been better if another character was gay & I hate the fact that people are making such a big deal out of this & banning the books just because a character turned out to be gay. LIKE WTF? They`re the evil people because they can`t accept some human beings (in this case, homosexuals). Besides, what if she just said that Dumbledore was gay because she didn`t know what else to say...
It's not a big deal, but by doing this many fans that felt that Albus Dumbledore and Magonigall would be together sort of feel down.......and then their are some people who would say "what did Dumbledore realy think of Harry" He is a homosextual not a peadophile......I still disagree in the stating of Dumbledores sex
J.K. Rowling has created the best Novels I have ever read. Althogh I dislike the fact that Dumbledore is gay, I will continue to re-read the Harry Potter series. I believe that the one thing she shouldn't have done was to give Dumbledore a sex. Also this new fact was able to make Harry Potter book more popular than ever, Negative or Positive you won't find anyone not knowing about the novel Harry Potter.
i think its fantastic. really brilliant not only is it a great way to end her riegn of writing these books but it adds a halarious twist. i am sure many people took out their books and re read them to see if they missed any hints that were dropped. but i did have the hole him and mcgonagall thing too
I think she just made this "HUUUGE" (note sarcarm)unnecessary revelation, juuust after Deathly Hallows, to lit again more interest in the series, thus getting even more publicity and sell more books.
It's natural that after the last book sales and interest on the merchandise drops, because all the fans have already got the so awaited ending.
The fact that Dumbledore is gay changes ABSOLUTELY nothing about his character; he never showed a speck of romantic interest in any female character, his past is very mysterious, and he appeared to be a very lonely man no matter who was at his side. If this revelation does anything, it strengthens the character Rowling had already made strong. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either bigoted or juvenile.
She can say whatever she wants, it won't change the books. Saying Dumbledore is gay after the series is finished doesn't make the books any better or worse because it's not in the books - it's not part of the story. She could have revealed that Dumbledore was a robot in human costume - it wouldn't have made a difference. Besides, could you seriously picture Dumbledore in a gay parade? He wouldn't fit in. In my mind, Dumbledore is not gay because it's not in the books.
OMG, SHE, the writer of HP, knows more about HP than you do! Face it! Every charecter has a past and not all of it shows in the books. And SO WHAT if Perkie is gay? It won't change him... You saying: 'I use an excuse to make Perkie straight because I don't like him being gay' is completely childish!
Yes, she the master of HP. In my mind, there are two kinds of HP: what's in the books and what's in JK's head. What she puts on paper is what leaves more of an impression on the general public. So if she really wanted many people (now and years after) to think of him as gay, she missed her best chance. It's her amazing books that leave good impressions on people, not her amazing afterthoughts.
That may be possible but...It's her last book....I think she just did it for publicity. Because theres nothing that implies in the book about him being gay. The whole ordeal makes me laugh though because that was so OUT of the BLUE! LoL
if you dont like it then forget about it. nowhere in the book does he make love with a man in fact if she wouldny have said anything no one would have even known

Now children everywhere who haven't even reached teen yet will ask the golden question "mama what does gay mean?"... Mom:"Where did you hear about that?" Child:"From school mama, one of bigger kids said dumbledore is gay" Mom:"Do you know what gay is?" Child: "No" .. Mom:"Gay is when a man sticks his penis into another mans asshole, u know where he shitz". *long silence*...*Child begins to cry*..
i think that this was totally irelavent, and i love the books but i dont think it had any relevance what so ever. i think it was a publicity stunt and that this whole thing has promoted debates on gay people, which in my opinion, gays have every right as straight people.
It's not a publicity stunt! The kid asked her if Dumbledore loved in the past, and wouldnt it be odd if she just said he loved Grindlewald? She had to explain his sexuality first. She didn't set it up or make an announcement, she was asked and she answered truthfully. Plus she had know his sexuallity for a while. She confided in Yates during filming for The Order of the Phoenix, so she just didn't come up with it. Also, sure its irrelevant to the story, thats why it wasnt in there.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
okay. This is ALL A PUBLICITY STUNT! Rowling already hooked in the kids and teens with her book, the outcasts, the nerds, and every type of clique in schools. Now, by making a character gay for "tolerence" she hooked in the gay community.
I totally support gays, but this...this is just a joke. It's all publicity....
i completely agree with you, i love the books but really it wasnt necasary at all really. I mean wasnt being great friends with grindelwald enough! I think it was just a publicity stunt
noooo, it may be slightly but not totally, as you see, harry potter is all about death but also about love conquers all. Has been from the very beginning. Dumbledore was gay with Grindelwald because of love, which he valued.
You don't appear to realise that one of the main messages of the series is tolerance. I don't see her contradicting herself in naming Dumbledore as gay. I don't even see her as promoting it. The books are her fiction and she has every right to include minorities. If you want to write a hateful book go ahead but I don't see you selling nearly as many coppies as jk.
seeing as how homosexuality is not a majority preference, I doubt seriously we are going to die out b/c a few people want to have sex with someone you don't like or in a way you don't like.
i'm betting the reason that gays in europe and america get aids easier is simply b/c they don't have to use contraception to block unwanted pregnancies, and so don't think much about using them. In places like africa, they don't have contraception, or testing for awareness of the virus. In europe or america, most aids carriers/infected know that they have it, and not to pass it to others
they do not tend to be more promiscuous, actually, they just don't get married( b/c they can't of course). A lot of heterosexual couples are extremely promiscuous, and being gay really doesn't have anything to do with it.btw, if it's a fact, give me a poll or research survey supporting those facts.
yeah except for the fact that africa's heterosexual population is running rampant with AIDS... ok let's forget that. Why so much aids? probably b/c of no contraception.
As to the argument on survival of the fittest, many species of animals die out every year. Do they deserve to be ridiculed and condemned by fundamentalists? Should other people unable to conceive also fall under your definition of 'perverted' and 'unnatural'?
Why should your religious values based on some 2000yr old work of fiction be imposed on me, Dumbledore or anyone else for that matter? Democracy and free speech are values we hold dear, not values we can put aside for our own religious ends
Homosexuality may inhibit regular reproduction abilities for homosexual individuals, but, God made them that way. Everyone that I've met whom is gay was born that way, they didn't make ANY decision. And AIDS in the U.S. is NOT confined to gay people and drug addicts, as pre-1992 republicans would have you believe, but is throughout ALL of society. Hell, someone down the street from you probably has AIDS and you're too angry to know it.
The "born that way" argument has now been widely refuted as false, and the current scientific consensus is that biological, family and social factors work together to set the stage for homosexuality.
like i said, if it is widely refuted, give me a statistics survey supporting your claim. Also, biological factors would include genes , or being 'born that way'. I don't doubt some social factors may cause homosexuality. However, social factors can influence your idea of beautiful; you may prefer blondes b/c of social factors, or skinny girls over voluptuous...etc.
everything has a cause, no one is saying that homosexuality doesn't either. The difference is, how should it be treated. Since it is harming no one, it should be respected as that person's preference.
and your evidence for this is...what, exactly? it's nice when you cite your beliefs or "facts," but it's even nicer when you can prove them. simply saying it doesn't make it true.
also, as for homosexuality being a sexual deviation; most of the strongly religious believe that anything but missionary position is a 'sexual deviation'. Also, sexual deviation is not a 'fact' really, but a majority opinion. Tends to be something biologically unusual or not typical. In this case, many heterosexual practices like positions and fetishes are deviations. However, most would agree that they don't really matter and it's not 'our ' business. same should be applied to homosexuality
The definition of sexual deviation is a sexual act biologically atypical, not meant to be that way. That being the definition, it is a fact, not a majority opinion.
I agree that many heterosexual practices like fetishes are deviations, as homosexuality is.
I agree to certain extent that it is not our business and that the same should be applied to homosexuality. To us, christians, persons are really important so we kinda feel the need to try to make people know they are acting in a wrong way, and we tell them how we think things should be. They decide then how they want to act, we dont force anybody, we believe everyone is free to decide and we respect their decisions as we respect them.
The whole telling gays that they are wrong though breeds the climate for the kind of discrimination that appears though. That's why they won't pass gay marriage,or allow gay couples to adopt. Just because those people think it is 'atypical'... they won't allow them to raise children.
Marriage is an institution essentially heterosexual. This is an anthropological fact that the law often just limits to continue it.
The union between same-sex does not meet the same social functions by which law governs and protects marriage. Thats why it does not make sense to attribute all the legal regulation of marriage.
what i meant was that we define what we consider 'atypical' these days. Like the missionary position would be considered typical by humans, but the rest of nature does it oppositely.
well, that is mostly because we have different anatomy. Although there are some animals that use that position too, like armadillos, most dont because it just wont be possible for them.
Also you have to consider that, although having similarities, every specie has a different nature, making it unique.
So you cant compare what is only within the nature of humans with how that is on other species.
Being a lesbian, I think it's great that she made a gay character, especially one that can really have no bad spoken about him. However, it's a tad late to mention it after the series has ended.

I was really let down. Dumbledore sure as hell didn't seem like a fairy to me. An attention-grabbing stunt on JK Rowling's part that I honestly think is gonna backfire on here somehow.
CamFlame18 4 years ago
Why does it matter? It doesn't change anything...at all.
missfancypants25 4 years ago
It'll change some people's outlooks on him. Not mine, I still think ole DD was kick-ass. But some people are going to think different nd it's gonna be a big grease spot on Rowling's rep. However, as all things in Celebrity Scandal, it'll pass.
CamFlame18 4 years ago
In my opinion people are CHOOSING to view him differently. The fact that he's gay doesn't change his character at all. People were saying that the fact that he's gay changes his relationship with the students, but just because he's gay it doesn't make him a pedophile or anything. I'm glad to hear that it doesn't change your outlook on him though.
missfancypants25 4 years ago 3
if you really want to make a bold massage say he's gay IN the book, in part 7 we learn mutch about Dumbledore's past but nothing says to me ''he's gay''
i respect Rowling but if you really want too sent a clear massage make the main hero gay...like Harry himself and make him fall in love with Ron...don't just say ''Dumbledore?...oh he's gay''because its not in the books you din't really sent the 'clear' massage

3natluvr3calvin 4 years ago
I agree with LogicalDemon. In my 13-year old opinion, I feel that Rowling's attention-grabbing antics backfired on her. It was just some immature scheme to gain more limelight. Not the best move on Rowling's part.
LincolnMorris 4 years ago
It wasn't an immature scheme...In her mind Dumbledore is gay, but she most likely wanted everyone to be able to imagine him in their own way. His sexuality probably didn't matter to her enough to mention it, but since the question came up, she answered it.
missfancypants25 4 years ago 3
Even if Rowling did mean for him to be gay, that doesn't make him any less the dynamic character that he is. And I'm the reader, so I'll interpret him however I want to :p, and when I read the books he wasn't straight or gay. He just wasn't....romantically involved lol.
lionlea 4 years ago 4
lol. good interpretation

I don't belive it it cant be true my friends told me but i never heard it any where but from them till mow but why did jk make him gay why did she have to reveal such a devistating fact that a hero like that is indeed gay did harry know did snape know why didn't the characters know she could've kept her trap shut cause now that the world knows a great all-time wizard is gay won't they stop readind why did she spoil our great memories about the greatest dead wizard to ever live?
abbadoo92 4 years ago
So a gay can't be a hero? If that's what you're saying, you're truly discriminating.
And about the other characters: how could they possibly know about it? In DH it is stated bye Dumbledore's brother that Dumbledore was a master of keeping things secret. By that, he was probably like 150 years old and he never told anyone about his childhood. Why would he admit he felt attracted to one of the most dark wizards ever lived? That would only harm his reputation, aye?
mevan1288 4 years ago 2
i cant tell if Jo Rowling is serious or not, whether she had this idea through-out the whole series or just came up with it when the fan asked.

He's how I picture him to be and he would have done a brilliant job!!
shyztee 4 years ago
ya considering he ian mckellan said he is gay and he is gandolf. gandollllf
ChaozXIII 4 years ago
Yea Ian Mckellan is gay but that's not why I think he would make a good DD. DD and Gandalf are basically the same person but I doubt he'd want to play the same person again.

Asking innocently if Dumbledore ever finds love, and getting a response that he's gay makes absolutely no sense at all. It sounds more like she's trying to make a political statement rather than keeping Harry Potter as a story. It really doesn't even make sense, is there a book in the series that talks about his love life? J.K. Rowling had to faggetize a character. Lets have a threesome while we're at it.

Aww man! Why Dumbledore? It would have been better if another character was gay & I hate the fact that people are making such a big deal out of this & banning the books just because a character turned out to be gay. LIKE WTF? They`re the evil people because they can`t accept some human beings (in this case, homosexuals). Besides, what if she just said that Dumbledore was gay because she didn`t know what else to say...

gtathrun 4 years ago
J.K. Rowling has created the best Novels I have ever read. Althogh I dislike the fact that Dumbledore is gay, I will continue to re-read the Harry Potter series. I believe that the one thing she shouldn't have done was to give Dumbledore a sex. Also this new fact was able to make Harry Potter book more popular than ever, Negative or Positive you won't find anyone not knowing about the novel Harry Potter.
gtathrun 4 years ago 2
i think its fantastic. really brilliant not only is it a great way to end her riegn of writing these books but it adds a halarious twist. i am sure many people took out their books and re read them to see if they missed any hints that were dropped. but i did have the hole him and mcgonagall thing too
haleydearest 4 years ago
I think she just made this "HUUUGE" (note sarcarm)unnecessary revelation, juuust after Deathly Hallows, to lit again more interest in the series, thus getting even more publicity and sell more books.
It's natural that after the last book sales and interest on the merchandise drops, because all the fans have already got the so awaited ending.
Celesmoon 4 years ago 2
The fact that Dumbledore is gay changes ABSOLUTELY nothing about his character; he never showed a speck of romantic interest in any female character, his past is very mysterious, and he appeared to be a very lonely man no matter who was at his side. If this revelation does anything, it strengthens the character Rowling had already made strong. Anyone who thinks otherwise is either bigoted or juvenile.
Stammitti90 4 years ago 8
She can say whatever she wants, it won't change the books. Saying Dumbledore is gay after the series is finished doesn't make the books any better or worse because it's not in the books - it's not part of the story. She could have revealed that Dumbledore was a robot in human costume - it wouldn't have made a difference. Besides, could you seriously picture Dumbledore in a gay parade? He wouldn't fit in. In my mind, Dumbledore is not gay because it's not in the books.
mowingthefrontlawn 4 years ago
OMG, SHE, the writer of HP, knows more about HP than you do! Face it! Every charecter has a past and not all of it shows in the books. And SO WHAT if Perkie is gay? It won't change him... You saying: 'I use an excuse to make Perkie straight because I don't like him being gay' is completely childish!
MoonshadeProduction 4 years ago
Childish is to quibble over the supposed sexual orientation of a fictional character.
Celesmoon 4 years ago 5
Yes, she the master of HP. In my mind, there are two kinds of HP: what's in the books and what's in JK's head. What she puts on paper is what leaves more of an impression on the general public. So if she really wanted many people (now and years after) to think of him as gay, she missed her best chance. It's her amazing books that leave good impressions on people, not her amazing afterthoughts.

i think that this was totally irelavent, and i love the books but i dont think it had any relevance what so ever. i think it was a publicity stunt and that this whole thing has promoted debates on gay people, which in my opinion, gays have every right as straight people.
tomhoy 4 years ago
It's not a publicity stunt! The kid asked her if Dumbledore loved in the past, and wouldnt it be odd if she just said he loved Grindlewald? She had to explain his sexuality first. She didn't set it up or make an announcement, she was asked and she answered truthfully. Plus she had know his sexuallity for a while. She confided in Yates during filming for The Order of the Phoenix, so she just didn't come up with it. Also, sure its irrelevant to the story, thats why it wasnt in there.
PumaPumaPride 4 years ago 2
maybe, but i still think it has once again raised a debate on gay rights, which as i said gays have every right as every one else. No offence, JK.

okay. This is ALL A PUBLICITY STUNT! Rowling already hooked in the kids and teens with her book, the outcasts, the nerds, and every type of clique in schools. Now, by making a character gay for "tolerence" she hooked in the gay community.

Frereasteph 4 years ago
You don't appear to realise that one of the main messages of the series is tolerance. I don't see her contradicting herself in naming Dumbledore as gay. I don't even see her as promoting it. The books are her fiction and she has every right to include minorities. If you want to write a hateful book go ahead but I don't see you selling nearly as many coppies as jk.
vantango89 4 years ago
So everybody with AIDS deserves it?
You are heartless.
Do the people in Africa who contract it through lack of understanding of its transmission deserve it?
vantango89 4 years ago 2
seeing as how homosexuality is not a majority preference, I doubt seriously we are going to die out b/c a few people want to have sex with someone you don't like or in a way you don't like.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
i'm betting the reason that gays in europe and america get aids easier is simply b/c they don't have to use contraception to block unwanted pregnancies, and so don't think much about using them. In places like africa, they don't have contraception, or testing for awareness of the virus. In europe or america, most aids carriers/infected know that they have it, and not to pass it to others
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago 2
No. Its because they tend to be more promiscuous. Fact
phasnox 4 years ago
they do not tend to be more promiscuous, actually, they just don't get married( b/c they can't of course). A lot of heterosexual couples are extremely promiscuous, and being gay really doesn't have anything to do with it.btw, if it's a fact, give me a poll or research survey supporting those facts.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago 2
yeah except for the fact that africa's heterosexual population is running rampant with AIDS... ok let's forget that. Why so much aids? probably b/c of no contraception.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
I know that it's her books and her characters but it sounds like a publicity(sp?) stunt.
Also, I'm "straight" but I think gay people are ok. It's their Life style choice and/or natural instinct.
Baseman24 4 years ago
I don't know what you guys are talking about nor do I care. All I have to say is that this "revelation" is...silly at best.
Not because it about Dumbledore being gay but because of the timing. J.K. Rowling should have said this before. Now it sounds a bit false.
Baseman24 4 years ago
As to the argument on survival of the fittest, many species of animals die out every year. Do they deserve to be ridiculed and condemned by fundamentalists? Should other people unable to conceive also fall under your definition of 'perverted' and 'unnatural'?
Why should your religious values based on some 2000yr old work of fiction be imposed on me, Dumbledore or anyone else for that matter? Democracy and free speech are values we hold dear, not values we can put aside for our own religious ends
vantango89 4 years ago
I think Hitler also considered being a Jew a birth defect.
Are you going to hate them next?
vantango89 4 years ago
Is that why Will & Grace was that popular?
vantango89 4 years ago
Homosexuality may inhibit regular reproduction abilities for homosexual individuals, but, God made them that way. Everyone that I've met whom is gay was born that way, they didn't make ANY decision. And AIDS in the U.S. is NOT confined to gay people and drug addicts, as pre-1992 republicans would have you believe, but is throughout ALL of society. Hell, someone down the street from you probably has AIDS and you're too angry to know it.
dragonboy34 4 years ago
The "born that way" argument has now been widely refuted as false, and the current scientific consensus is that biological, family and social factors work together to set the stage for homosexuality.
phasnox 4 years ago
like i said, if it is widely refuted, give me a statistics survey supporting your claim. Also, biological factors would include genes , or being 'born that way'. I don't doubt some social factors may cause homosexuality. However, social factors can influence your idea of beautiful; you may prefer blondes b/c of social factors, or skinny girls over voluptuous...etc.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
everything has a cause, no one is saying that homosexuality doesn't either. The difference is, how should it be treated. Since it is harming no one, it should be respected as that person's preference.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago 2
and your evidence for this is...what, exactly? it's nice when you cite your beliefs or "facts," but it's even nicer when you can prove them. simply saying it doesn't make it true.
DiabloGuapo 4 years ago
also, as for homosexuality being a sexual deviation; most of the strongly religious believe that anything but missionary position is a 'sexual deviation'. Also, sexual deviation is not a 'fact' really, but a majority opinion. Tends to be something biologically unusual or not typical. In this case, many heterosexual practices like positions and fetishes are deviations. However, most would agree that they don't really matter and it's not 'our ' business. same should be applied to homosexuality
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
The definition of sexual deviation is a sexual act biologically atypical, not meant to be that way. That being the definition, it is a fact, not a majority opinion.
I agree that many heterosexual practices like fetishes are deviations, as homosexuality is.
lollerwaffle 4 years ago
I agree to certain extent that it is not our business and that the same should be applied to homosexuality. To us, christians, persons are really important so we kinda feel the need to try to make people know they are acting in a wrong way, and we tell them how we think things should be. They decide then how they want to act, we dont force anybody, we believe everyone is free to decide and we respect their decisions as we respect them.
lollerwaffle 4 years ago
The whole telling gays that they are wrong though breeds the climate for the kind of discrimination that appears though. That's why they won't pass gay marriage,or allow gay couples to adopt. Just because those people think it is 'atypical'... they won't allow them to raise children.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
Marriage is an institution essentially heterosexual. This is an anthropological fact that the law often just limits to continue it.
The union between same-sex does not meet the same social functions by which law governs and protects marriage. Thats why it does not make sense to attribute all the legal regulation of marriage.
lollerwaffle 4 years ago
what i meant was that we define what we consider 'atypical' these days. Like the missionary position would be considered typical by humans, but the rest of nature does it oppositely.
ashleypoo1319 4 years ago
well, that is mostly because we have different anatomy. Although there are some animals that use that position too, like armadillos, most dont because it just wont be possible for them.
Also you have to consider that, although having similarities, every specie has a different nature, making it unique.
So you cant compare what is only within the nature of humans with how that is on other species.
