RTM (Read the manual)... that will be the most frequent response to simple questions that you'll get... and that's the best advice that anyone could give you. I wouldn't normally promote ignorance by responding to a question such as that but I'm feeling nice: Scroll with your cursor to the 'Pgm' field on the main screen, press the 'Window' key twice. From there one of the function keys should correspond to the text "New" on the screen allowing you to create a new Program.

To the kid saying the MPD is a joke, you don't know what you are talking about. I copped a MPD new for $150 and a S3000xl for $200. Voila, instant MPC 3000, for a fraction of the cost. I also use the MPD to trigger drums of the EPS16+ turbo, S950. Its a great tool to have in the arsenal, especially if you have a lot of older rackmount samplers like I do.

Let me ask you this; Why do you think its a joke? I'm gonna guess just because your favorite producer doesn't use one, right?

I have an MPC 4000, and minus the built in synth, the 5000 really isn't messing with the 4000. There's more memory on the 4000 stock than if than the 5000 maxed out. But then again it all comes down to your work load. Used to use a 1000 with JJOS, but there were things I wanted to do but couldn't so thats why I upgraded. But for the most part a 2500 or 1000 with JJOS is really all you need. I only got a 4000 cause of certain options and I found 1 for a good price.

Go with the MPC1000 and download the JJ OS II or if you want extra midi outs and assignable outputs go with the 2500. The 5000 is kind of an overkill in my opinion. Its nice to have all the bells and whistle but you won't use all of the feature on it.
