  • I do think monkeys aren't really meant to be pets, but you obviously love your monkeys to bits and they seem very happy with you so I'm not one to judge! :D

  • i loved it wen he rubbed he eyes

  • Short

  • more more more more more that's what shes thinking.

  • would you reccomend others to have a squirrel monkey as a pet??? how do you consider the experience of living with a monkey??? im asking you this because im really interested in getting one in some years! and i want to know others people experiences before getting it. hope to get an answer! Thank you

  • become**

  • AWWWW her little noises are sooo cute^_^

  • id love to fall asleep bettween those legs

  • People who point out monkeys as being dangerous are confusing Old World monkeys like squirrel monkeys with New World monkeys, like chimanzis. The two classes are extremely different in social behavior.

  • That was so cute!!! The little sounds it makes and the way it started rubbing at his eyes awwwwwwww!!!! So adorable!!

  • How sweet! lucky girl xD

  • this is the only thing bad about California theres no way too get a monkey legally :(

  • im thinking of getting one myself anyone know any good websites for tiips on taking care of them??

  • Your monkeys are precious!

I want a monkey really bad, but I'm only 14, almost 15. I'm going to start saving money, and I'm guessing in 10 years or so I'll be ready to get one. Meanwhile I have been and will be doing my research, and ever since I could remember I have wanted to be a vet for primates and/or other exotic animals. It'll defiantly be worth it when the time comes! :)

  • @xeileen916x where does the monkey poops? its an adorable creature, but i wonder if it is trained to do its needs on a special place or just does it where it wants to?

  • That's the most adorable thing I've ever seen!!! XD

  • @xeileen916x you also must take into consideration the amount of pet dogs ratio to pet monkeys i do love the monkey though its so cute

  • How much was she? 6,000 - 7,000?

  • do you have diapers for it?

  • please post more vids... i love squirrel monkey

  • where is the breeder you got hima at, im wanting one, ive done research, volunteered at a place called monkey jungle in miami (with squirrel monkeys). have permits, husbadry form,etc.. please send message

  • Awwwwww!!!! She was sneepy!

  • OMG I want one so bad they are sooo cute

  • Thought they got bigger then that

  • do monkeys become very violent when they become older?? please answerr!!!

  • I don't believe everyone should run out an buy a monkey but it is no different then when humans first began domesticating dogs and cats.

  • How can one own a monkey in the US?

  • Ahh Cute at 2:22

  • Ahh Cute ate 2:22

  • monkeys look like power rangers

  • @blonde4brains-> Let's see...Dogs bite millions of people a year, send over 500,000 to hospitals for injuries, and kill at least 20 a year, including some infants/children...In the United States ALONE. Monkeys (including APES) have killed ZERO people in US history, and send maybe 5-6 to hospital a year...and mostly with VERY minor injuries in case of monkeys. I think I will stick to owning monkeys! But thanks for your opinion.

  • @xeileen916x my dog is nice

  • @xeileen916x and i think the mokey prefers it in your house it seems to be well looked after and theres no dandgersalso monkeys are easier to look after than most pets

  • @xeileen916x that is offensive. 20 dogs in the US a year kill people or something, so now all dogs are murderers and should never be pets.

  • @callmecrazybecoziam Absolutely NOT my point. Point is ALL animals can bite. Monkeys are not the terrible animals they're made out to be by Animal rights groups. Dogs cause harm and people aren't running to ban them. Monkeys have killed 0 people & certain groups want to ban them. I support the right to own ANY animal by an individual that KNOWS how to care for and properly handle them, including domestics. Some people shouldn't own a fish, while others can responsibly own a tiger. Owner is prob.

  • @xeileen916x ok.

  • @xeileen916x However dogs are definitely a cheaper investment. A squirrel monkey typically costs 3 grand...

    However they're incredibly intelligent.

  • @xeileen916x

has it ever occured to u that around 40 percent of ppl are exposed to dogs regularly whereas an infanatesimal amount of ppl are regularly exposed to monkeys? if monkeys were everywhere liike dogs the stats would look a lot different. :)

  • @callmecrazybecoziam well my dog is very very dangerous but she has never Killed anyone doi! >:P whatch your tongue young man!

  • @palmapanfu um dude. a couple of things.

    1. i'm a girl.

    2. it was sarcasm. sorta. i was quoting what this dude kinda indirectly said the way i see it. that's what his/her point seemed like at the time before their comment reply. that's kinda the whole reason why i said "that is offensive". so in other words, "that is offensive. 20 dogs in the US a year kill people or something, so now all dogs are murderers and should never be pets" is me saying that is what it sounds like xeileen916 is saying.

  • @callmecrazybecoziam That's not what she was saying at all. She was pointing out that there is more risk in owning a dog than in owning a pet monkey. One of the main arguments of the animal rights groups is that monkeys kept in captivity are dangerous when kept as pets, and as can be seen from eileen's videos, and from the statistics, this is obviously not true.

What is offensive is you putting words in somebody else's mouth.

  • @MandaBee89 OMG you people are annoying. see i said that's what i though, but mr palmapanfu is so stupid and not getting what i'm saying so i had to use little words, and not many of them. did you only read the one comment? see i said that, and then eileen explained it, and then i stopped thinking that. but then palma was like thinking that *I* think that dogs are murderers. if you read all the comments, you'd know that eileen explained that all to me. you people get on my nerves.

  • @MandaBee89 like i post one comment, then things are explained and that should be the end of it. but NOO apparently things can't be that way. this can't be just done. then palma reads things wrong and in the middle of me trying to explain things to him, YOU start misinterpreting things. just leave me alone i mean at least read all my comments and know what happened before all this annoyingness.

  • @palmapanfu and i LOVE dogs. i've ****always**** wanted one. i'm not prejudice. and i'm not male. so do your research next time and really read things carefully. i'm actually offended that you're accusing me of saying that. i frakkin love animals. ever since i can remember; before i even started school. and that is my point exactly. just because some dogs did something, doesn't mean we should assume all dogs are murderers. like how dare you. how dare you say i think that. SERIOUSLY offensive.

  • @callmecrazybecoziam well they wouldn't be murderers if the owners would have trained them properly and p;us, i studied dogs for 2 years or so and i know A LOT about dogs. seriously. :

  • @palmapanfu DON'T YOU GET IT I'M NOT SAYING THEY'RE MURDERERS I'M SAYING THAT'S WHAT XEILEEN916X SAID!

  • @callmecrazybecoziam what ever calm down man you're turning crazy dude!

  • @palmapanfu well you're turning stupid. i get pissed off when i have to repeat myself countless times.

  • @callmecrazybecoziam nope just about 499,980 of them

  • @xeileen916x, There are an estimated 400 million dogs in the world. Almost 390 thousand people required medical attention. that is about 1 per thousand dogs. Dog attacks kill approximately 10 to 20 people annually in the United States, and another 10 to 20 in the rest of the world. A Monkey is about half as likely to bite as a dog. Don't forget the millions of mistreated dogs there are though. When taking this into account dogs are slightly less likely to bite and or hispitilize people.

  • @xeileen916x having a pet monkey is fine as long as you dont torture it and treat it right =]

  • @xeileen916x Actually that is completely untrue, apes have killed humans in US history. And why does it matter if it's just US? If you include the world, I'm sure the number is considerably higher. Similarly, the way that humans acquire most monkeys is horrific... generally the mothers are killed and they're snatched up as babies. They're very social animals and they can't get the kind of interaction with you that they could with other conspecifics. It's just sad really, the entire industry.

  • @xeileen916x they belong in the wild, unless you have a troop of them say around 30-50

  • @xeileen916x LOL stupid compartion.... its like comparing "killed people by ferraries and toyotas".

Let's see (lol) how many people have been killed by a Toyota -> thousands... and Ferrari, maybe 100 in th whole world. How many common houses have monkies/apes as pet? next... how many dogs?

  • @xeileen916x I love monkeys but Pet monkeys and APES in zoo's send over 100 people to hospital in the us a year and also about 50 of those peoples from the attacks die! Not from this kinda monkey though but if people owned more monkeys there would be way more monkey attacks then dogs..

    ANIMALS4LIFE!

  • @MisterDiSeAsE - Where did you get this information? It's completely false. I contacted the Centers for Disease Control, as well as follow media articles. There is NO record of ANY primate or ape killing a person. There have been 2 occasions where an escaped chimp severely hurt a person, but both still live to tell the story. I challenge you to find ONE case where a primate killed a person in the United States. You won't!

  • @xeileen916x Your baby is adorable and very sweet. She would never harm you. But your claims are completely biased and inaccurate. A dog's temperament depends upon the owner. I've known many Pits unfairly seen as vicious due to their breed. The only reason you hear more of dog attacks than monkeys, is because more people own dogs.

There are dogs and cats who need homes, and you buy an exotic from a breeder.

"Responsibly own a tiger"...wow. You don't love animals. You feel entitled to them.

  • @thestreetsempty I dont think you understand the point she was trying to make...

  • @xeileen916x i agree with you and its important to also think about the monkey and were it came from if the monkey was alone without parents i think its ok to save its life because other wise the monkey would die very slowly and alone why not just make the monkeys life better, ive always been interested in having one a squirrel monkey specifically i live in phx az and if you have any info on how i could start or get more info i would appreciate the message thank you

  • @xeileen916x the chimp attack 2 years ago. true it didn't kill anyone but the person it attack ended up worse than dead

  • @xeileen916x "There have been 2 occasions where an escaped chimp severely hurt a person, but both still live to tell the story."

Yeah, both of them needing new faces to replace their old ones, plus the man who was attacked had his genitals ripped off. And plenty of people each year get bitten by monkeys.

  • @xeileen916x any ways i have a savanah cat and was wondering if that would be a bad combo if i get a squirell monkey (actualy two)

  • @xeileen916x It's a shame the general public nearly always attempts to bombard exotic keepers with lectures, regardless of how well versed they are in the species they keep. Caring for exotics needs to be better understood in our country. I can only hope the privilege is still around when I'm old enough to attain the necessary permits for exotic mammals (as I only have reptiles now.) But, I guess responsible keepers being flamed is better than unknowledgable keepers doing harm to the animals.

  • @xeileen916x Sorry about those comments. It was my dumb friend, he's obsessed with killings anyways sorry, though that information is suprising that never happened.

  • @MisterDiSeAsE You're retarded

  • @xeileen916x And parents kill 200 children a year(only in the united states)...So...We should all be banned from earth and give our childs to monkeys and dogs! :)

  • @xeileen916x please answer my question, i really want a squirrel monkey, do you know any places they are legal? and where do i buy one? pleeeeeeeeease annswerrr

  • @xeileen916x MONKEYS DONT HURT PEOPLE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME. WHAT ABOUT THE CHIMPANZEE WHO RIPPED THAT LADY'S FACE OFF?

  • @FatosKaba93 1. That was an APE, not a monkey. 2. I didn,t say they couldn't hurt someone, I said the PROPORTION of monkeys that attack is fewer than that of dogs, BC owners take more care in safeguarding their monkeys from the public. If owners are educated the risk is less than domestics that are paraded all the time etc. Judging by the fact that there are only 3-4 primate incidents a year (usually a scratch not needing med care) threat is negligible & exageratted by Activists.

  • Yes, there are many more dogs than monkeys...but still % of attacks by monkeys is less than dogs. 15,000 pet monkeys in US according to activists divided by 10 cases a year is .67 percent. Less than 1% of primate owners have an incident per year & 10 is double reported cases. Dogs AVMA says 72M pets & CDC reports 4.7M bites a year...WOW 15.3% of dog owners a YEAR have incidents! In order for monk owners to be at same incident level as dogs proportionately we would need 2,400 bites.

  • @xeileen916x Monkeys aren't pets.

  • @kakashi202 Hmmn...funny you say that....I have 4, legal and licensed in my state.

  • @xeileen916x They're wild animals and should be kept where they belong, in their natural habitat. Unless and animal was in danger you should not take it from it's home. Don't say, "its home is with us", that's completely false, it belongs in the wild with other monkeys and animals.

  • @kakashi202 In the US import of monkeys for use as pets is ILLEGAL. They are all captive raised and have been for over 40 years. I would not support the taking of animals out of their habitats. I do not supoprt a "black market" or smuggling in animals. I do support the legal aquisition of an exotic from a USDA licensed breeder where the animal was NOT taken from its natural habitat.

  • @kakashi202 hahaha "they're wild animals and should be kept where they belong" well OBVIOUSLY no one did that about WOLVES now did they? they're now dogs if you don't know that. they can be trained can't they? I'm sure no one thought so in the beginning but now the hunter has becoem "man's best friend" so unless you're going to say that ALL pets should remain in the wild, shut up.

  • @Ron0loves0hermoine So you're saying you can domesticate a monkey within a few years or months. Something that would take decades. The reason dogs are domestic is because they evolved, yes they use to be hunters, but they evolved. Which took hundreds of years, breeding, and genetic manipulation. In this current generation, that monkey is a wild animal, not a pet, not something to be trapped. It should be in the wild where nature can take care of it. No matter what you do, you aren't nature.

  • @kakashi202 I feel like I'm talking to a five year old. No one's going out into the jungle and grabbing a wild monkey and trying to domesticate it, most pet monkeys these days come from breeders. Nature has little say in what goes on these days, Foxes are currently going through the same process that happened to dogs, they are doing it generation by generation and the ears are changing, the tails are changing, etc. there's a lot of things that "shouldn't be done" that are being done.

  • @Ron0loves0hermoine And breeders are some of the worst animal people. Guess what, at some point someone did have to trap that "wild Monkey," in order for someone else to obtain it. Even if the babies were born in captivity, most of the time they were born in captivity because the parent/s were captured either to be killed for food or sold to outsiders.

I am not a Peta person, but lets not start bullshitting people either.

  • @Ron0loves0hermoine Btw, a monkey isn't a pet. You shouldn't control something that is not suppose to be controlled. It was born for the wild, meaning it's genetics made it capable of surviving in nature not with humans. I feel sorry for animals that aren't domestic that are being used as pets.

  • @kakashi202 you're saying it's okay for dogs to be pets but not monkeys? that makes no sense. cats also have wild tendencies, descending from wildcats, what about them? if you're going to comment on something that's wrong don't just pick one thing out because then you're not making much sense.

  • @kakashi202 lastly, what about plants? they're taken out of their natural habitat to be in pots as decorations in houses, museums, buildings, etc. the wool is taken from a sheep to create clothes, oil is taken from the ground so we can drive, diamonds are taken from the earth so that we may shine. dogs, cats, monkeys, rats, hamsters, ferrets, birds, all these things are "taken" so that we may live comfortably and with a companion. commenting on one means you know nothing

  • @xeileen916x Uhm, you are wrong man. Monkeys have killed lots of people. Especially apes.

  • @xeileen916x You are forgetting a major factor ma'am. The amount of Dogs available in the U.S. is about a zillion to one compared to Monkeys. Dogs have lived here as pets for hundreds of years, this isn't Africa, Asia, Australia or the carribean, where Monkeys are more readily seen. With maybe the exception of Africa, Dogs still outnumber Monkey's by quite a-lot. The answer is therefore inconclusive because of the lopsided numbers. I think you are taking it to heart people's comments, we aren't

  • @mrceebees14- I am not forgetting the fact that there are 72 million more dogs in the US than there are monkeys. I just did the PROPORTIONS. There are 4.7 million reported dog bites in the US. That means 6% of dog owners had issue (must correct my prior post of 15% guess calculator was off, sorry). There are only 5 reported monkey bites a year. So say there are 10 monkey bites it is still less than 1% of owners having issues. So by PROPORTION monkey owners have had less issues than dog owners.

  • @xeileen916x And I would bet that most of those Dogs bites come from Human abuse of the animal. If you know that there are that amount, then you can't compare the two, it's inconclusive, the same as when people compare Flying to being more safe than driving. Put nearly as many planes in the sky and I guarantee you the death rate will go up. It's less than 1% who own Monkey's ma'am compared to Dogs ma'am, that means the numbers will always dramatically favor your answer which is disproportionate

  • @xeileen916x used to seeing Monkey's live in people's houses. These are agile creatures that spend the bulk of their life in extremely tall trees. The habitat that Monkey has now is totally and completely different in that house, I would dare to think that house has to feel like a shoe box, but what do I know, this is my unprofessional observation.

  • @mrceebees14 - The same can be said for any other animal kept as a pet. No animal's habitat is in a human home. Look at birds, even those that are "domesticated" and commonly kept as a pet are kept in cages.

  • @xeileen916x Birds yes, Dogs and Cats, no, especially Dogs which have lived directly with man for thousands of years dating back to ancient times, so to say "any," of course is false. A Monkey like a Bird lives a totally different lifestyle than Humans, most of it spent not on the ground, let alone in a confined space which is the direct opposite of its instinctual surroundings. That said, for a Monkey, your house could be just a huge bird cage, could it not?

  • @blonde4brains Cat's are better than cat's, Hehehe.

  • @blonde4brains why is it wrong? just curious

  • @blonde4brains man you're a dumb ass lol.... the monkey obviously loves her :) very natural

  • @blonde4brains go and search "pit bull attacks" and then tell me how docile dogs are

  • People that know nothing about monkeys try to take them as pets.(I an not saying you are in this category). Monkeys are fast and can take a finger off even through gloves. DO a hell of a lot of research, and volunteer at a shelter or somewhere they have monkeys before taking them as a "cute" pet. I worked in the labs with them for 31 years, and I have the scars to prove it. Be sure you have a room for them, they will completely demolish your house otherwise. They are a strong, fast predator.

  • You need to make more vids. mmkay?

  • He looks so cute. Poor thing can barely keep his eyes open.

  • omg when the monkey rubbed its eyes cause its sleep was so cute and unexpected.

  • it's just like a human rubs eyes and is calm good choice

  • In the 5 years i shared with a squirrel monkey I never once saw him sleep, let alone close his eyes. he would sleep with me, but only under the blankets. Otherwise he would sleep in his tree house inside his cage, but if you got near his head would instantly pop out. It was so nice to hear yours purr and rub his eyes and lay his head to rest. So cute.

  • I love the sound they make

  • Kill it! kill it with a shotgun!

  • i was in a city called Belem in the brazillian amazon, wich is a major smuggling port for these animals. but she seems happy with you though, sweet creature

  • do they ever bite or anything like that? where they hard to train?

  • i want one so bad but i dont kno whitch to pick its either the squirrel monkey or a capuchin monkey whitch one should i get?please help me

  • nice toes

  • I love your monkey! it is so cute! also we have the same name hehe! exact same spelling

  • Awe, she is gorgeous! I wish we could have one, but maybe in the future. They are a lot of work and we are not stable enough financially yet to properly care for one. But it will always be a dream of mine. ^_^

  • is that fully grown?

  • now fart !

  • Does this not affect the relationship with your boyfriend a bit?

  • @ChopStickZero No, They don't sleep with me anymore really. MAybe one night a week and I always end up putting her away.

  • @xeileen916x can you have those as pets at home :o

  • @ChopStickZero

Our dogs three dogs sleep with me and my husband and it doesn't affect our relationship. If anything it brings us all closer together as a family. <3

  • Yes, monkeys are cute. But never get one for a pet - they are curious to the point of destruction... trust me on this!

  • Wait monkeys r legal? U can hav them in the USA?

  • @curbking718 No, if you are living in california, monkeys are not legal.

  • so cute I wish I had one but my mom does not pets

  • @randomart4you my mom does not LIKE pets

  • @xeileen916 Where did you get him/she?

  • do you let the monkeys sleep with you or do you keep them in a cage?

  • @JohnnyKnowsAll The two older ones sleep in an outdoor cage in their nest boxes. They usually cuddle with each other in the cotton one. The younger one sleeps with meoccasionally or in a cage in my room. She is 2 now. The 2 in this video are 3 and 5 now.

  • I would like to have a pet monkey now already, but Jesus said: "Seek first the kingdom of God..."

  • She´s addorable...BTW, how do you get it to bath?? Mine wont let me get it near water...

  • I'm having a great day watching fennec foxes and these adorable monkey video's. Thanks for sharing Sophie with us!. I know I cant have a monkey but I sure enjoy watching these video's. Squirrel monkeys are my favorite monkeys.

  • How funny I was watching some fennec videos today too. YOur welcome. Glad you enjoy the videos.

  • where did you get a squirrel monkey as a pet????

  • omg 2:23 has to be the cutest thing i've ever seen... i want a squirrel monkey sooo bad right now! It's such a pain to get one in florida :'(

  • as it should be

if they were easy to get, people who are not capable of taking care of them, would buy them on a whim after watching a cute video

  • 2:22 cute :)

  • are they good pets? and are they growing and how big?

  • すばらしい。いい。

  • are squirrel monkey ok to leave alone in house if they are domesticated and when it comes to waste clean up how does it go to the bathroom. your baby makes me really want a monkey they seem like the most chill animal

  • If you want all your stuff broken you can leave the monkey alone. The only time you can have them around the house just playing you need to be supervising to make sure they don't hurt them self or your stuff. Monkeys go to the bathroom when ever they want to so there will be a lot of mess clean up. Most people will put diapers on the monkeys when in the house and take them off when there in the cages.

  • CUTE *_*

  • precious

  • Do you grow it forever or do you eventually give it away to the zoo?

  • No, I keep them forever. They live up t0 25 years. So I will have them until i am almost 50.

  • @xeileen916x I am really thinking is get a monkey like yours. can you please send me a message and explaining them to me and what I need for them. Thanks

  • why dont you do a little more research before think you can actually take care of one

if you bothered to click the uploaders nickname, she has a link with more info on the profile

considering the fact that you cannot even do this much, i think you should stick to watching videos about them

  • thats so sweet

  • when she was scratching her eyes at 2:23 she was sooo cute xD

  • Oh my dog you are right! It's so cute!Like a baby! It's so intelligent!

  • ha ha ha ha she lost the fight to stay awake :)

  • its just like a baby

  • how much are squirrel monkeys?

  • a lot like 2,000-4,000 i cant afford ):

  • jajaj so funny i have seen them in tijuana for $1000 dollars they only bring them once a year tho

  • Can you put more videos up

  • OMG soooooooo cute at 2:24 - 2:29!!! I so want one now!

  • for all who think this is cruel i agree and disagree this monkey looks happy so not cruel but if someone where to steal a monkey away from mother and treat it bad that is cruel. This is so happy though.

  • ever get bitten by one of yours?

  • where did you get yours from and what is a good website that sells them?

  • its so adorable when it rubs it eye

  • how much does it cost and is it alowed in the us

  • Anywhere from 3ooo to maybe 15ooo? Depends on where you get them, how old they are, and the particular monkey's history.

And yep, the Squirrel monkey is legal in the US, but some states require a permit to to make sure you know how to properly take care of the animal. Sometimes you have to take a test, pay a fee, have a home visit, or all of them.

  • I love the part where she rubs her eyes! It's so adorable.

  • omg when she rubs her eyes she is adorableee!

  • Oh! and would you recommend a capuchin or a Squirrel monkey?

  • umm.... I am 12, but I want a monkey when I am around your age, and NOT now. How long do they sleep for? Can they transfer diseases to humans? Also, if I get a monkey would I be able to have kids?

    Thanks soo much for answering!

  • As babies they sleep a lot. As juveniles they don't sleep that much. They do sleep all night. They can not transfer what they do not have. Monkeys are like people in that they Must contract a virus before shedding it. You can't give someone rabies if you don't have if. Yes you can have kids, but you have to be responsible about their interactions. They must always be watched. Monkeys require A LOT of time, like a human baby. They don't like to be alone. It is a 24/7 responsibility.

  • Monkeys can transfer a variety of diseases to people. You will read that New World monkeys carry fewer diseases than Old World moneys, but you can still catch diseases from, and give diseases to any kind of monkey. Unlike dogs and cats and birds, monkeys can grab with hands. So if they want to bite you they can grab your arm and pull it toward them. Keeping a primate is very different that other animals and they produce terrible bites. I suffered a nasty wound because of a woman's monkey.

  • Have you looked up the Zoonoses on cats, dogs, rabbits? They carry more disease than monkeys do. Monkey are like us. If they aren't exposed to a disease, they can't have it. It is different, but responsible owners live very happy lives with their monkeys. Monkey can bite (any animals w teeth can), but have never caused a death. Dogs cause 30-40 DEATHS a year in the US. I will take my chances with a monkey.

  • Your death number for dogs is high, a good resource is the USA CDC (disease control) website, but your point on domestic animal injury is a good one. I've also had the misfortune to take a German shepherd to the head during a 4th of July fireworks celebration. But the number of injurious bites per pet ownership I've witnessed makes monkey's a dangerous choice. Even primate expert Diane Fossy got ripped up by her captive monkey.

  • The # of reported monkey bites to strangers ranges from 1-3 a year. 15,000 monkeys kept as pets (per AR sites)= less than 1% of monkeys had an incident. Most domestic animal attacks are to strangers (not the owner)& number in the millions per year. % wise 5-6% had an incident. One who owns a monkeys accepts an inherent risk, like racer, sky diver etc. If the owner is OK with that possibility while keeping the public safe it is their right to accept that risk. A bitten owner is NOT public threat.

  • I keep exotic birds, and used to believe that captive breeding would end importation of wild caught. The problem is, when you create demand that demand will be met, even if illegal. The rate of bird importation is a trickle compared to the 1970s, but there's also only a trickle left of many species. A sizable portion of the Mexican parrot trade, for example, end sup in the USA, though totally illegal. (See Defenders of Wildlife's Mexican Parrot trade report, English version, online.)

  • While captive bred monkeys are more common, despite growing numbers of bans on primate keeping and breeding exotics (my home state recently outlawed some fairly harmless snakes, like the amethystine boa) imported monkies are common. Imported monkey bushmeat is growing, too. And those animals and their parts can carry the viruses and plagues of nightmares. Ebola, monkey pox, Tuberculosis, Measles, Herpes. You have to balance the cute videos with the real reality of injury and black market trade.

  • Importing monkeys to the US is ILLEGAL. Who in the US eats monkey meat? Those issues may be a problem of their home countries, but not the US. The recent monkey pox outbreak was atually due to prairie dogs, not monkeys. Captive bred monkeys are disease free. There are enough sites & misguided web info on the negatives of primate keeping, which want to ban their ownership. This is why I have MY videos. I am showing the responsible side. I am for fair regulation but not bans based on half truths.
