@AnarchyArtwork The Curve is a gothic/electronic group from the UK; a number of different members have worked with Numan in some way, as in with the production on the Jagged sessions (in my opinion Jagged Edge is way better than the original album). I actually haven't given them much listen, but they have a really hefty output.
Good remixes. Did you hear the one that used to be on YouTube that started with a really creepy Hal type of voice? It was fantastic but seems to have disappeared, I'd love to hear it again.By the way I think that Gary Numan should be congratulated for following his vision and creating such a strong body of work.
@nickshingler I think I remember that video (it started out speaking the lyrics, right?), though I haven't seen it in a while.
And I agree, not too many artists who can keep up with the pace that Gary Numan has achieved (even if it does take him a few years for every new album). He does have a great vision too, combining a strong degree of intelligence with his musical skills.
Really great remixes of a brilliant track. Neither makes the mistake of changing it too much, keeping all the elements that made the original version so iconic. Keep changing my mind on which remix I prefer, which I guess is testament to the strength of each. Thanks so much for posting this!
I don't think they should've touched this sog. It's butchered, just as the majority of remixes on Hybrid, but one thing I can say, is it is better than Adde Fenton's horrible remixes.
Sorry but I have to disagree, I feel that this is one of the few songs from Hybrid that, despite having two different remixes, didn't deviate that far from the original. Songs like Bleed, however, became laughably disfigured remnants of the originals.
I've never listened to all of it. The last Numan album I bought was M+S and even though everyone talked about how shitty it sounded, i didn't find it that bad. Its not no I Assassin but it's his sound. I believe hes wasting his time with the Jagged, Exile, and Pure sounds a bit too much. He can do much better than that.
I totally agree, M+S is a very unique album when you think about it, and his recent music is falling into a dangerous territory of monotony. I still like it personally (for the most part) but it's getting a little tiresome.
Finnaly someone agrees with me on M+S. I don't give a shit what people say, I liked that album. I Wonder, the title track, Skin Game..and the b sides on the Eagle Records re-issue where great.
I have'nt liked anything Numan's released recently. If he wants to live in music, he needs to ditch the depressing "Industrial" he calls it, and ditch Ade Fenton. Jagged has no melodies, no real music. it's just the same errie dark shit played over and over and over. All the songs sound exactly the same
Exactly, each song on Jagged starts with an overly long eerie intro, then some guitars and drum programming (could he hire a drummer just once?) then some extremely uninspired lyrics followed by thrashing guitars for a chorus.
At least in M+S he had a vision, and so did Exile and Sacrifice to an extent, but Pure and Jagged have no underlining emotion or feeling, or any real adventure in music, which causes Numan's brilliant talents to just fall flat.
You got that right on Jagged. I highly doubt it took him 5 years to make that.
M+S had great lyrics. I Wonder, Love Isolation, and so on, were great lyrics. Compared to Jagged, that album has it beat. Every song on Jagged sounds exactly the same, and the lyrics with the Im so depressed, fuck God, and its so dark.
How people even consider Jagged Industrial I don't know, becuase it's far from a real Industrial record. It's just noise to me.
Yeah it's got some sparse 'industrial' aspects--rather cliches--but other than that it does not compare to, say, KMFDM, Pig, or Ministry (those are all bad examples though since they are typically much heavier).
I know in my admiration for Numan that if he applied true musicianship to another album he could make a masterpiece, for sure. But yeah I agree stuff like Jagged seems effortless and uninspired. And I wish he could just stop with the drum machines, they drive me crazy.
I love Ministry. My all time favriote band, you can probally tell by my uploads. Butttt Twitch by Ministry was a very electronica and synth album. That album and Land of rape and honey is what created Industrial. I'm going to upload Twitch later, but that's a true Industrial record. Jagged is nothing but whiny lyrics, and shitty noise. People wonder why Jagged and Jagged Edge have such low record sales, and its cuz no one wants that shit people are still buying albums like PP and Telekon.
That's true, and Numan knows it. That's why he's doing his mini-album tours like Telekon, Replicas, and now Pleasure Principle, because he knows everyone will buy it.
Well if he wants to make money again, like he says. All he has to do is get some synth, put meoldies in his music again, and write some better lyrics.
All that 80's stuff is coming back, he could make himself king again with an album that takes you back to his music between 80-84. The only thing is, the Telekon mini tour and live album in no way lives up to Living Ornaments 79-81. Numan prefers singing in that low whispery voice like on Jagged. He took the heart out of it.
Absolutely, it's like he's completely forgotten that he's sitting on a goldmine of potential.
Sure, releasing deluxe editions of early albums is nice, and it's still kind of cool that he's replaying his early work live, but he just doesn't seem to realize that he really doesn't need to keep reliving the old material that was so successful, he could make more music that really spoke what he is as a musician, not this pretentious dark affair.
well telekon was dark, and so was Strange Charm, which I love, and Berserker a bit. He can do dark music and it sound beautiful with melodies and great lyrics, and tons of synth. But his newer work don't buy it for me.
I doubt he will ever release a deluxe of Dance, or even do a mini tour of that. But he has a goldmine in the demos, their floating around here, there's demos of I Assassin too. He should release them, like he did Replicas Redux and the new PP deluxe
Speaking of which, I can't wait for the PP release, that should be pretty good.
Yeah I agree, he's always had this closet anger behind his music, often with a tinge of dark humor as well. I absolutely love Strange Charm, that album is perhaps my favorite aside from I, Assassin.
I guess Berserker would be my favriote Numan album, and Dance. But I highly prefer Berserker as his best album. The look, the sound, and the guitars along with the great lyrics made that album worth it.
Have you ever heard the extended mixes of Berserker? Dude, those make the album 10 times better. Espically the title track.
I really liked Strange Charm, My Breathing, and This is Love were beautiful. There's some extended mixes floating around of i Can't Stop and New Thing from London Town.
Yeah a friend gave me the extended versions of Berserker, and it's top notch; you really do get a better feel of what he was trying to do in the extended mixes.
I have extended versions of those two tracks actually, and I love them. Have you ever heard the extended mix of the songs The Fury? It's incredible, much better than the album mix. It even includes a lot more lyrical content which really helps to get a feel for what he was going for.
Oh hell yeah man. The Fury extended is wonderful too. Someone sent me a rar. of it back when I had my old account on here. I actually have bought that, paid 80 dollars on ebay. High price but was well worth it. Not much artwork to it, but that dont matter to me. Those tracks stand out higher than just about anything. and I know what you mean about the lyrics, Call Out the Dogs, I Still Remember, and Miracles had more verses. i think God Only Knows did too, but can't remember.
Sulpher is a two person electronic/industrial group (Rob Holliday and Steve Monti). They do a lot of producing I believe, and they also co-produced during some of the Jagged album sessions (their work can be heard on Jagged Edge).
Yeah, that's a very good version. I've not heard it in a while though. He has a real talent for tweaking and excavating his own material. He may not be as technically proficient as Trent Reznor, but he has something of a Midas touch. Very good musical instincts, which is rare.
Superb. By far my favourite version of DITP. Better even than the original in my opinion The brooding, bassy intro adds so much musical heft and menace.
Love both versions - hearing the layered synth sounds live is fantastic - cant wait til the next gigs.
