  • Saw several covers of this song. Why for all americans it's so hard to say word "chernil",but word "grohochushee" almost all say perfect?

  • this is beautiful :)

  • hey, your russian was not really bad! (believe me, i'm russian) but you still have to work on your pronunciation (especially on "chernil" and "navzryd"). and i liked your voice! and a male cover is quite unusual, you know. it was great :]

  • @heyhellohelicopter Посмотри другие каверы на эту песню,слово "чернил" никому нормально не удается.

  • Yeah, it was very good) But Russian was terrible, sorry

  • OK. People! him mispronouncing a couple of words in Russian doesn't change anything! The cover is great.

  • Oh my gosh! Your voice sounds hot.

  • Is it possible to marry someone's voice -- specially when they're probably multiple years older than you?

  • @xxYourAntiHero it almost sort of happened in the little mermaid. so.... maybe? lol

  • If it makes you happy I thought you were very fit for the song, You already know what needs work I will not bring it up. But for your voice alone... I would marry you. lol

  • @LornesGirlfriend thank you very much. i appreciate you not making the same comment that everyone else has made. :P lol

  • @OrangeHat101

Hehe no problem, I just really liked it. haha even told my mates about it, because I love the song.

  • Yeah, your Russian wasn't terrific, but it's a REALLY hard language (I studied this piece and it took me ages to get right). In other news, your French is lovely, and your English is FANTASTIC!!!! :P

I like your voice. You've got a nice, clear, lilting tone.

  • fyevral astav chernyila plakatz pisatz a fevralye nazrif paka grahochyiye shlakatz visnoyoo chorneyoo garit

thats what your aiming for XDD

  • better than the original

  • This is really good. I'm surprised, because this is a very difficult song. It's one of my favorites to perform, and my favorite song...well, ever. You did a very amazing job, and you have a wonderful voice. I like how you added your own style, especially with the piano 2:07-2:09.

At the Russian part (it's actually a poem by Boris Pasternak), you sounded nervous. XD Before I even attempted it, I had my friend's Russian grandmother make sure I was singing it right. But otherwise, magnificent!

  • You sound fantastic.

  • I actually didn't think your Russian was that bad at all...maybe that just shows how little I know about it :') I don't know

  • I like your voice... But the russian part is kinda weird though, not the right pronunciation

  • @Lanny71 thanks, and i'm well aware that my russian sucked. all the dozens of comments saying so may have tipped me off.

  • @OrangeHat101

    It might help:

FevrAl' (soft L), dastAt' (soft T) chernil (strike on I and hard L this time) eeh plAkat' (soft T),

PeesAt' oh fevralEh (drop H) nah (same as English word 'nah') vzreed (strike on double E).

PokA grakhOchooshaya slAkot', vesnOy chornooYUh (drop H) gorit.

    P. S. : for those Russians that would love to insult me for bad gramma: I know how to spell in russian, mong, but russians words are just like french ones: they have a different pronouncation. So, pipedown, суки

  • @JETIramZanka Ну, смишно же.

  • @JETIramZanka "So, pipedown, суки" now that's rude!

  • You're the best Owen! OWEN NUMBER ONE!!!

  • @SylvanaForrester owen? who's owen?

  • @OrangeHat101 I meant to give that a thumbs up..:x Sorry.

  • Wonderful! <3

  • i think you sound really good, and I would NOT tell you that if I honestly didn't think it. I highly appreciate Regina Spektor's music so in no way would I lie about you singing it ;) keep up the good work!

  • you're not bad at all! :D

  • fack all of yah moderpakers out there, shes a w[][][][][][][]hore!!!

  • Great job!!!

  • That was very good! You are awesome

  • This doesn't work, your voice isn't strong enough and - at the risk of coming across rude - it seems like you're singing through your nose which gives it a pop rock/emo sound. Nice piano work though!

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!

  • russian? its french!

  • @ecchumati

Only the part "Après moi le déluge" is in french...however there's a whole verse in russian (at least that sounds like russian!) I don't know why but I like the way it sounds.^^

    This cover is wonderful ♥

  • @ecchumati lol look before you leap

  • @ecchumati

    its most definateley russian

  • There was never a point when I thought you did poorly. This is excellent. Wow.

    I love it!

  • I know this is an old video, but I just wanted to say your Russian isn't that bad. I mean, you don't sound fluent obviously, but you sound like you were trying. Which works. :)

    I really enjoyed this cover!

  • Although the Russian parts don't sound Russian at all,

    You sound really good.

  • honestly, i loved it, even with the little stumbles here and there.

    I liked it a lot (:

  • This might, in my opinion, might actually be better than Regina's version.

  • great job!

almost no accent in russian ;)

  • I love your voice, I felt in love with it... Brilliant... Learn Russian!

    From Russia with love, Olesya

  • there is no poko there is pokA (it means "for the present") it's Pasternak's poetry

    fevral' dostat' chernil i plakat'

    pisat' o fevrale navzrid

    poka chernejushchaya slyakot'

    vesnoju chjornoju gorit

    February. Take ink and weep,

    write February as youre sobbing,

    while black Spring burns deep

    through the slush and throbbing.

  • An ambitious and way good cover! Your voice is *wonderful* imo. Regina would be proud i think!

  • i dont know who owen is, but i love how you sang it. this song is just so great.

  • @momis74 what? owen?

  • I'm not usually a fan of covers, but this is great :) You have a wonderful voice.

  • I, personally, like this better than Spektor herself :) Maybe just because I've only heard live versions :/

    Good Job!

  • aww! you have a cute voice!

    Great job! Great cover!

  • Your voice reminds me of Owen Pallett's voice.

    I do love Owen Pallett.

  • @Jourtneyy i donno who that is, but thank you :)

  • @Jourtneyy my thoughts exactly! so nice to see another pallett fan.

  • This was .. what word should I use?

I think incredible is not an overstatement, although I think that is kind of a personal opinion and possibly a little over that which others would give it.

    Specifically:

Your voice control is really great and you really inject soul into it in certain parts of the song, but not all, which is a nice touch. Parts are professional, others you let your feeling into it.

The piano I believe is really great, being slower is a good thing, and playstyle is unique,

    Derek

  • thanks very much :)

  • Started singing with you lol :))

  • What a nice cover :D

  • well done on the russian bit :D nearly right x

  • woooooooooooow

  • I thought this was great!

    keep it up!

  • Lovely but work on the Russian bit :)

  • Nice voice! Congratulations!

  • Album version on my channel ;)

  • @Appelsappel lier

  • Good job

  • tight ! and in that pic she looks like einstein for some reason..

  • yeah... i can see that too. probably coz they're both jewish? that's my guess.

  • That was so good, you messed up a little bit on the Russian part but russian is a hard language! roll your R's more

  • When I read it was you playing I was so shocked, I'd thought you were using a backing track it was so like the original. And the voice... wow. I think you lent the song a certain creepy tone, which went brilliantly. (not saying you're creepy, I'm sure you're lovely :P)

  • thanks! listening back... the piano could have actually been better. I played it a smidge to slow. whatever.

but every cover i post is my own piano playing and singing.

i dont mind being called creepy, lol - i suppose we can all be creepy when we want to be.

  • Truly amazing.

You successfully covered regina spektor without sounding stupid, i loved it!

  • @OrangeHat101 it sounds good slower it's more solom that way and it works good

  • Февраль. Достать чернила, плакать,

    Писать о феврале навзрыд,

    Пока грохочущая слякоть

    Весною черною горит.

It is the correct version (I'm from Russia)

  • amazing!

  • When I saw Male Cover, I was all," Oh, God." But you pretty much smacked me off my chair!!! I really loved it, Regina should here it lolz

  • Half of letters in the Russian words you have lost )

The Russian singers sing also awfully on english?

  • 'but oh well', it's great =)

    and i loved the picture..

  • fantastic!

  • hey could your send me the sheet music for this please man i would love too learn it :)

  • I could, yes - but it would probably be easier for you to join the Yahoo Group "Regispek"

its got tons of her sheet music on it.

  • oh okay thank you :)

  • Февраль. Достать чернил и плакать! Писать о феврале навзрыд, Пока грохочущая слякоть Весною черною горит. ----- [Fewral'. Dastat' chernill i plakat' Pisat' o fewrale nawzryd Paka grakhochuschaja sljakot' Wesnoju chornuju gorit] ' = last letter weak w - strong w, not like [uaj] like German w
  • Февраль достал чернилы палакать,

    Писать о феврале на взрыв,

    Пока грахочущая склякоть,

    Весною черную горит.

  • you're very good!

  • hey, you did seriously well :) didn't expect that a male voice could sing this song aswell as she did.

You're voice is not very emotional, that's true but you never were out of tune and I really liked the I must go on standing "uh" part and all those alalalas!

    nice work.

  • this is also my favorite...along with blue lips :)

  • you'r so gooooddd!

    xx

  • Amazing voice. Like gave me chills!

  • i loved it! i always wanted to cover this myself but i can't play piano and it does not sound nearly as good on guitar. as far as i know, your accent wasn't bad. but i never took it. if i can convince my brother to learn the piano part, i'll ask my friend how to properly pronounce stuff. anyway yeah i really loved your cover. ^__^

  • its really very easy to play on piano. i'm sure if you tried you could play it - but get your bro to learn it! Its really fun to play - coz u get to play realllly loud :P

do u need sheet music? i can send u some if you do.

  • haha i'm really bad with music. i've been playing some sort of instrument ever since second grade and i still can't even read the stuff.

but i'd love the sheet music! that would really be awesome.

  • haha. I totally enjoyed your accent) Very funny. Poor Pasternak.

btw, you have really nice voice. But it's a kind of tense.

  • yes well - never claimed to speak Russian.

Please check out my cover of "Braille" by Regina. Its LOADS better than this one. :) thanks

  • This is really good! I like your voice.

now I want to learn this song on the piano too-it's beautiful.

  • thanks! u should check out my cover of "braille" by regina.

  • wow... I really enjoyed this

  • your voice is super sexy! not many guys can sing like that. good job

  • This was very good. You have a stunning voice. Im not going to be cliche and say that regina would be proud, but she would absolutely love to hear this. I know it.

  • your voice, its beautiful i give u a 5/5

i know regina would be proud... i love it♥

  • you have a very beautiful controlled voice,

and obviously you like Regina so I like you

    =)

I'm going to listen to some of your other

covers, you've got talent, boy! =D

  • thank you - and regina pretty much rules. Only the foolish or the uninformed don't like her.

yet, still i find it hard to find people in real life that adore her as much as i have grown to.

ahhh wellll. perhaps one day the world will get a clue. :)

    thanks again

  • beautiful voice :)

  • I'm russian and the russian part sounded fine!

you missed some syllables, but hey, what's the difference!?

GREAT COVER I LIKE ALL YOUR COVERS

  • good to know

and thanks for listening to my covers. I'm glad they didn't make your ears bleed ^_^

  • Wow. That was fantastic! Regina would be proud.

  • this is amazing!

  • i can't stop laughing on your russian :))) but my french would be much worse. so i like your cover :)

  • amazing amazing... ahh.

  • It's exellent! Your Russian is really good , I could understand every word!)))

  • I love this. :]. It helped me to realize that I was singing it far too high up. :]. [I am a guy].

However, I would've loved to hear more emotion. You have a wonderful voice, just work on emoting through it. :D.

  • Wow, sounds great :) and the couple French phrases sound really good, accent-wise

  • thanks :) - i took french for 4 years, so i'd hope i'd get those couple words right :P hehe

  • haha, that's good, then. I've studied a lot of French, and I hate when people butcher it!

  • Après moi le déluge :)

    what a beautiful sentence.

  • Après moi le déluge, it does sound nice, but it means 'after me comes the flood' (roughly)

  • Aha, I know what i means, I'm french.

  • Uh...isn't it in Russian?

  • The verse that's in another language is Russian, yes, but the phrase "Apres moi, le deluge" is French - spoken by one of the King Louis

  • this was an awesome cover! :D

  • ooooooo!!! That was very well done!! EEEEEP beeeeee-uuuuute- iifulll!

  • Great singing. Mispronounced several Russian words, but not too bad.

  • I. Adored. This. Cover. I normally never choose to listen to a cover over the original. 5:05-5:09 be still my beating heart! You did great.

  • thanks! i have some other regina covers you might be interested in. Perhaps my cover of Braille is up your alley?? or samson...

anywho, if you get the chance, have a listen to those as well. Thanks for the comment :P

  • He's good. Just needs to put more confidence into it.

  • i agree.

he needs to give himself more credit because he is awesome!

    :)

  • this is the best cover ive heard and your voice is perfect for the song. definitely.

  • That was one of the best covers i've heard on this song.

    very well done.=]

  • wow. really good. playing AND singing. id say you did the song justice. : )

  • Nice work dude!

  • Cover is really great ! All of those high pitched sounds would be very hard for me to reach. Great Job! :) By the way Russian part was not bad but still missed many things :D (I'm Polish so I can hear the difference pretty well and I also quite understand Russian and exact translation is :

    February. Get ink, shed tears.

Write of it, sob your heart out, sing,

    While torrential slush that roars

Burns in the blackness of the spring

  • wow! i'm quite impressed [=

i want to do my own cover of the song... it's so entrancing! i can't stop listening to it... or singing it, for that matter XD

but yes... you did an amazing job!! and i don't know russian, so i couldn't say, but it sounds great to me!! 5* for sure [=

  • well done, I'm definitely impressed :).

  • thanks - check out my other regina covers if u get the chance

  • Beautifully done!! o.o

And I thought the Russian bit was done well enough :D.

  • Do you have any idea how good you are?

    I mean really?

  • omg you sound super sexy. :D

  • haha, cool?

    if you're serious then, thanks

if you're being cruel then... *sad face*

    haha, thanks for the commentation

  • Your voice is perfect for this song. Five stars. :)

  • Wow, amazing that you're singing and playing piano with just (What I've heard) two mistakes!!

Even the russian (no idea what it means)

    5 stars from me!

  • The Russian means:

Black spring! Pick up your pen, and weeping,

Of February, in sobs and ink,

Write poems, while the slush in thunder

Is burning in the black of spring.

It's from a poem by Boris Pasternak.

  • that sounds pretty damn good for just having fun:D

    5*****

  • why thank you! i guess i like to have fun in style. :P
