i used to listen to this song on Short Wave radio living in Southern Africa when i was about 9 - 10.....finally found it again and loving it !!!!!!!!!
This song is for me I always want to listen to... when it is almost New Year! It has such an optimistic tune. The recognition for the son of ABBennyA was there in 1992 and I think he was even more in symphonic keyboards than his father. A pity we never heard anymore about him internationally...What a brave classic song!!
Nice work on that tuning man....considering this is from an ol' VHS, you did GREAT job...almost not recognisable from proffesional remastering and Gr8 song btw
I'm so happy I found this song!! All I rememberd was 20 seconds of the music but no lyrics. I heard this song when I was on vacation in Cadzand (the Netherlands)... but i was only 8 or 9 years old when I heard it! Now, today I found it!! My birthday is tomorrow... 28 years :)
this is amazing. I LOVE THIS SONG. i didnt know who they were i just clicked on a random video. so i can say i really like the song, i dont know any things theyve got going on so im not biased :D
I just listened to Blackmore's Night version and god... I can't believe how such an epic song (the original) can be turned in such a generic borefest (BN's version). These three ladies did marvels with this song. I especially love how they sing the last chorus, absolutely EPIC
@Delage82 I agree. And I normally love BN. But they utterly ruined this song. Candice Night doesn't have nearly the kind of passion in her voice that this song requires. Synthesizer-heavy background or not, this song is all POWER. And BN just falls utterly short of that.
@rachelthedemon i think Candice does a fantastic job with this song. just as much passion as the original. But she puts out the same vocal power as all three of the original singers do.
@angryfrogwithagun As someone says: She's married to the composer. But she also sings the first verse, during the minute that the uploader missed back in the day of VHS.
this song are written by Peter Grönvall and the others in "one more time" as far as I know, he is the son of Benny Andersson from ABBA now a days he is married to Nanne that is one of the singers in this group ....
@txema2728 I'm sorry, I think I was the one who originally started it. I just wanted peoples opinions on both versions.
I myself am a HUGE Blackmore's Night fan and am looking forward to when they perform in concert her in PA. I don't really care about what all the naysayers say about Ritchie being in this line of music.
With Blackmore's Night, Ritchie and Candice are making so many creative spins on different songs
Ive listened to both now, and i find it exactly the opposite to Sadlobster. I think this one is better because of the keyboard-generated music, and the feeling with which they sing :P
I'm a HUGE Blackmore's Night fan and usually prefer their covers versions over the originals (like Diamonds And Rust and The Times They Are A Changin for example), but One More Time's original Highland will forever be the best one!
Like this one and have saved the link to my Favourites. The BN version is a totally different sound, but I have to say I like it more, mainly because no-one comes anywhere near the quality of Candice's vocals.
To all those who responded to my comment four months ago; you are right, my opinion about this song is mostly around musical taste. Musically, this version is good.
I think both this one and Blackmore's Night's version are pretty equal. I just prefer BN's version because I think Candice sings it somewhat better to me.
That's just my opinion, I'm not discriminating towards anyone who likes this
I've been a BN-fan since their first album (I even stole it from my mother, haha), and I truly enjoy their music...
Their version of this song doesn't really have the "power" that OMT delivers. That said, it's not a bad thing at all. Just different versions, so more ppl can enjoy the same score ;)
And btw, anyone knows WHY BN has found this swedish music now? Two songs in one album "The Journeyman" and "Highland".... gotta be a reason?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
After hearing both this version and Blackmore's Night of this song, I think BN made the better one. I think that because BN uses more real instruments and less keyboard generated music.
Also, Candice Night does a much more beautiful job at singing this song, But if no one else thinks so; take a listen at both songs yourselves and let yourself be the judge
@sadlobster1: Ouw, to say the Coverversion is better than the Original (which is nearly 18 Years old) makes you somewhat of a Fanboy?! Sorry. I even had to search for the BN Version. Well... not my Taste!
@77Romuluz77 It doesn't make him a fanboy in any way... he simply likes the other because it fits his taste more. Different genres for different people.
@77Romuluz77 Actually, I kinda agree with sadlobster1... Blackmore's Night actually did a really good job on this song! :D ..and normally I hate cover versions of songs. But this one is still good too lol...
sure, quality wise BN's version is a bit better, bit it lacks a bit of, let's say fury. BN's version is wonderfull for some easy listening, or to be played in church. .
As some other people said, then it is a matter of taste, I personally have some awesome memories from the original. But the other one I have no memories off, and it has some kind of "Safety Dance" feel to it. but the BN version is a nice cover, and some times covers can be better than the original . I honestly think that U2s Masterpiece "With Or Without You", has been surpassed by Kane who covered it. Since I feel Kanes version just got some more juice and oomph to it IMHO. :)
@sadlobster1 18 years ago it was popular to use this sounds. I like BN as well, but covering this hit wasn't exactly their best move. Their song misses at least one extra voice.
@sadlobster1 I have to argue with you. Original version is the best one. BN coverversion is not so good, not so melodic and Candice could not sing that song so good as the voices of OMT
Awesome song! Cant believe that it only seems to be people from scandinavia and south africa listening to this. Check the views! Takes me back to childhood. Beautifull song should have been an international hit...

Ha! I was in the exact same position :D Remember if from when I was a kid and thought about it just now. I know I've tried to search for it before but could only really remember the melody....awesome :D
This sure is one of the most wellcomposed swedish songs ever! Peter Grönwall in the beginning of the video, looks as taken from the Tears for fears song "Shout". Check it out and compare... "The Highland" brings the best of what we´ve learned from the 80-s and made a smashing post-80s hit. finally the readheded singer Thérèse Löf made a huge misstake leaving this band shortly after this realease, she didn´t make it solo...
This song combines some kind of traditional tune with modern music- elements- with a powerful result!
I discovered this song by searching furhter details about the band ABBA- suddenly there appears material from the son of Benny Andersson- and I´m catched!
I spent 4 years looking after this music vid! OMG!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you! And the quality is just flawless which is just another plus.
Wow! This vid just HAS to be on my iPod! Thank you for sharing it with us, love ya!:-)))))
Nanne, Peter, Maria - <3<3<3<3 Hur fasen kan man vara så stor musik och låtskrivar-geni som ni är?! Älskar er! Hoppas vi kommer få se er tilsammans på scen igen snart. Som ABBA sjöng - Thank you for the music!

Just so you know, the man in the begining is Peter Grönvall, the son of ABBA's Benny Andersson

Fanstastic!
This song combines some kind of traditional tune with modern music- elements- with a powerful result!
I discovered this song by searching furhter details about the band ABBA- suddenly there appears material from the son of Benny Andersson- and I´m catched!
Music from Sweden is fantastic!
