This song is for me I always want to listen to... when it is almost New Year! It has such an optimistic tune. The recognition for the son of ABBennyA was there in 1992 and I think he was even more in symphonic keyboards than his father. A pity we never heard anymore about him internationally...What a brave classic song!!

I just listened to Blackmore's Night version and god... I can't believe how such an epic song (the original) can be turned in such a generic borefest (BN's version). These three ladies did marvels with this song. I especially love how they sing the last chorus, absolutely EPIC

@Delage82 I agree. And I normally love BN. But they utterly ruined this song. Candice Night doesn't have nearly the kind of passion in her voice that this song requires. Synthesizer-heavy background or not, this song is all POWER. And BN just falls utterly short of that.

To all those who responded to my comment four months ago; you are right, my opinion about this song is mostly around musical taste. Musically, this version is good.

I think both this one and Blackmore's Night's version are pretty equal. I just prefer BN's version because I think Candice sings it somewhat better to me.

I've been a BN-fan since their first album (I even stole it from my mother, haha), and I truly enjoy their music...

Their version of this song doesn't really have the "power" that OMT delivers. That said, it's not a bad thing at all. Just different versions, so more ppl can enjoy the same score ;)

And btw, anyone knows WHY BN has found this swedish music now? Two songs in one album "The Journeyman" and "Highland".... gotta be a reason?

After hearing both this version and Blackmore's Night of this song, I think BN made the better one. I think that because BN uses more real instruments and less keyboard generated music.

Also, Candice Night does a much more beautiful job at singing this song, But if no one else thinks so; take a listen at both songs yourselves and let yourself be the judge

As some other people said, then it is a matter of taste, I personally have some awesome memories from the original. But the other one I have no memories off, and it has some kind of "Safety Dance" feel to it. but the BN version is a nice cover, and some times covers can be better than the original . I honestly think that U2s Masterpiece "With Or Without You", has been surpassed by Kane who covered it. Since I feel Kanes version just got some more juice and oomph to it IMHO. :)

"The Highland" brings the best of what we´ve learned from the 80-s and made a smashing post-80s hit. finally the readheded singer Thérèse Löf made a huge misstake leaving this band shortly after this realease, she didn´t make it solo...
