the old version used to remove drm and convert to mp3 your itunes songs, but even the old version no longer functions (if you can find it) because it has to connect online, which doesn't work

there has been in the past...apple has stopped most of those programs from working though...i dont know of any that do just that...but doubletwist does not really lower the quality and you can easily import mp3s into itunes or your favorite program.

several of the programs that i've tried require the athentication code, which i don't have. does this one require it?

Sorry, this program requires the songs to be authenticated (in itunes) before they can be converted (as far as i can tell). It will only convert protected files that have been authenticated.

based on file size, yes there is usually a difference of about .19mb, though there is no noticeable difference (that i can tell)

I have found that dboubletwist app sucks, and ALL my songs it sampled were choppy and useless. I wish I knew if there was a secret or hint that I'm missing. Anyone?

No, it doesn't work with videos. and unfortunately i searched google a bit for itunes music video drm remover and didnt find anything...
