@winstone24 Those training missions are really tuff, I don't know How you manage to fly a whole 150 hrs in a year, sounds grueling. I did medevac chase for a couple months. the most boring two months of my life. I worked one 12 hour day and they gave me a f#$king air medal for it. Medevac is awesome cause they save peoples lives but they don't do shit compared to the rest of army aviation when it comes to working long hours and making shit happen.
Okay, I am a two time vet with nothing but aviation experience so here is what I can tell you. A typical day for us is long, usually about 16-18 hours if he actually works. He wont be going on patrol or cooking in a kitchen or anyother odd bullshit like that. If he isn't on flight status, he will do maintanence on helicopters assigned to his unit. The occasional detail comes with being ground maintainers and it is nothing big, maybe a guard post or two but not patrols or anything.flyers just fly
Needing info from helicopter maintenance personnel. I’ve got a son in AIT @ Fort Eustis (15T) Listed as Army Reserve but has had some units asking him to switch to active. Wondering what a typical day/week might be like if deployed Afghanistan or Iraq.
So far he has gotten the typical BS from transfer guys– one said 15T's did nothin but sleep & goof around. Another said that they were required to do rotation going on patrol w/ the infantry kicking in doors.
@Roofwalker56 It depends on whether or not he's in a maintenance company or a flight company. Typically you do a year in a maintenance company before they'll send you to a flight company. Days vary from 14 hour days flying 8 hours to sitting on your ass all day. Flight company's are typically the busiest since they have 10 helicopters to take care of along with flying missions. Maintenance does the more time consuming tasks and inspections. No kicking in doors or shit like that.
@82bjj60 Thanks for the clarity of info in your "ask himself" reply. That does seem to be what it is boiling down too. Something that has come up while he is at AIT another soldier at AIT is telling him that if he goes ROTC that he has the option of "turning down his commission" which strikes me as strange and I am not sure that the consequences would be good on the back end. Any thoughts?
Nothing like being a Black Hawk crew chief. I pull pranks on other crew chiefs, pilots etc. Once we locked the SI from another company in a porta-potty, Check my vids out
Know how I know you're new? You don't even one which handle controls ur shades... XD jp dude, anyways I'm a Crewchief out of fort hood juss sayin hey :]

Looking for a Blackhawk Crew Chief
Just dropped my 18 yr. old son off at Ft Eustis for AIT - 15T
Signed up for six yrs. as a reservist. After AIT he goes back to Texas and into ROTC with his reserve unit at Texas Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth.
Eventually wants to fly Blackhawks - is he on the right track ?
Any advice would be appreciated.

@Roofwalker56
shoot me a message.... he might want to look at being at warrant officer.

@82bjj60 That is one of the options he is considering. The difficulty is figuring out who is BS-ing him and who is giving him the straight info.
- Reserve command is saying staying reserve, then put in a WOFT in a few yrs.
- 160th Special Ops Aviation Reg. says go active after AIT & then put in a WOFT.
- ROTC says get your schooling, take the commission & then put in for flight as assignment choice.
- His recruiter says go ROTC, turn down the commission & then put in a WOFT. (???)

@Roofwalker56
First and foremost, every recruiter is going to tell you that their way is the way to go. Recruiters have quotas and need to fill them.
You put out a lot of information here. Your son needs to ask himself a few questions:
1. Do I want to be active or reserve?
2. Do I want to be a Warrant Officer or a Commissioned Officer?
These two questions will drive his decision.
