Im a child of the 60s and I love this song, always have, every now and then there comes along a song that becomes a classic, this one qualifies on all counts, it will be played 25 years from now, guarantee it.
There are 2 things I remember about the 80s: (1) the amazing music (and videos) and (2) crackheads. I remember listening to this song as my mother drove us OUT of the 'the hood'.
December 31 1989 a decade that left me whit a great family, a girlfriend"now wife", real 100%friends, and just this fantastic music. THANKS GOD for the 80's. some assholes here are just bitching abbout this era..........well they must be friends of the simple and easy life, computers , music without mussicians and remote texting friends.
@supersabrejet Clean up your foul, vile language...especially on the internet...or go back to the dirty gutter where that type belong. As a matter of fact, delete this piece of filth you call a "comment" so that I can actually reccommend this video to people who want to hear good music without feeling like they're doing it in a truckstop bathroom stall.
@supersabrejet I agree, and I'm an early 90s baby, which spent I got the run-off of the 80s. I wish I had been born back then, or in the late 70s like my mom.
1980 i was 10...ten years later I have a great family,a girlfriend''now wife'',Real frieds and this great music, the 80s were the best years of my life......THANKS GOD FOR THE 80S.
Im soooo sorry for this generation, they have no clue.
@supersabrejet what about all the epic 80's movies??Karate kid, nightmare on elmstreet, friday the 13th,Ferris Buhler's day off,One of the guys just to name a few
@Mongomediaify Yeh its funny, nowadays everyone pretends to have money and know what its like to be wealthy thats why people buy that music, in the 80's you were on either side of the fence and proud.
@TheARMAProductions Winners don't do drugs, man. The 80's started us on our current downhill slide of monstrous deficits, unchecked greed, and class inequality. The 80's were the decade when the insipid, venal baby boomers officially began to ruin the American dream that their parents fought and died for.
That said, though, the music was definitely awesome.
@ziweiyuan Well, you know, I hate to admit it, but you are right. The evil tribe really started to take control in the eighties and have just made things worse and worse ever since; However, a lot more baby-boomers are NOW trying to stop the rot and reverse it, than young video-gamer-meth--idiots are!
If you think the 80s was in some way the beginning of "unchecked" greed and class inequality, then the education system is even shittier than I imagined...and I have a really awesome imagination. What a clueless generation we have running us into the future.
@jsadberry As I recall, I said of the current trend. Greed and class inequality have always been with us, but the 80's gave it the particular spin of monstrous budget deficits (one of Reagan's gifts to America), deregulation, and so forth.
As for your ad hominem attack on the current generation, frankly, that disqualifies you from rational discourse on the topic.
@ziweiyuan, "Greed and class inequality have always been with us". So have lazy people who blame their life failures on society. Obama supporter right? Do the rest of America a favor and GET A JOB and pay for your own kids healthcare. Thanks.
@ziweiyuan you seem to be forgetting 1993-2001 when bill clinton was laying the smack down. there was a huge economic boom from the early 2000's up to 2007.....
I agree. I don't like what the media has to ffer nowdays and attitudes are diiferent all about, but in some ways it seems recycled in a way. i suppose it is true as it is said; There's nothing new under the sun what once was will be again and again.
The 80s introduced AIDS, Reganomics, The PMRC, and a lot of pop music lacking much spirit or soul. Certainly, some of the music sounds nice to listen to and reflect on today, and for many that's enough; which is great.
But really... the 80s was an empty decade with a hollow soul.
Just like the pop music of every generation it is devoid of life and heart.
Is it better than music today?... is like asking whether shit or vomit is preferable.
@RemoteMemory but please, are you saying that quality like this is playing today on the radio? no one is even capable of making the music today that they made in the 80s.
I get what you are saying, but I hear that argument about almost every decade which has passed. I am guilty of it myself, in that I think the last time "pop music" had any sort of worthwhile message was in the 60s.
As for the 80s, it was the beginning of the plastic pop star and the "mtv generation". Talent became less important than making a good video and selling style.
I see the 80s as the conception of the aborted fetus we call "pop music" today.
With all the folks who want to make a trip back to the 80's, we all wish we could get a time machine. But why not make the 80's again, but better? we have all these people who want to bring it back, let's encourage it to come back. Set the trends, set the music, there's a few new wave bands today that are severely unheard of, you just need to look a little harder. Instead of hopeless wishing, why not take the initiative and make it happen now?
@TheARMAProductions Very well said, my thoughts exactly. The interesting thing is though, I know of many, many older people as well as really old people who've never even seen this, at least on on the vast scale required in order to truly appreciate the disintegration of all aspects of civilization...
this is actually MY entry, not my kid's,,,i agree w/ ARMA's opinion. aside from technology, the 80's were da bomb.......09-09-2011 signALED a change in lifestyle, mentality, tolerance......
@TheARMAProductions No you're definitely right. Society has been heading downward for a while now. Though it really goes back since the beginning of the 20th century. It's just that now it has begun to become really pronounced. And even before the 20th century, things have been prepared for at least 300 years. The changes are really well detectable on the recordings of how life was back whenever, in all its aspects. Technology is the only thing improving, yet it's enslaving us.
Welcome to the world of evolution and development, if your theory that things should have stayed the same as the 80's and they are better, then people who were brought up in the 50's had the same opinion in the 80's and think things should have stayed the same. Optimism, 16% of people had long term unemployment in the UK, Ronald Reagan( an actor ) ran the US and ran a huge deficit. The rich got richer, the poor got poorer e.t.c
@TheARMAProductions 90's > 80's in every way possible.... the other aspect of life that's better today than the 80's that you did not mention is fashion. Men wearing makeup?.... come on now...
The decade was a cesspool of self indulgence and fear, crippled by a recession nearly as bad as the 2008 meltdown. The world trembled in fear as Hollywood cowboy who was starting to have early symptoms of Alzheimer's, had a finger on the button and just begging the soviets to launch. The eighties may have been a good time for music. But you'd never want to live it.
While I can agree that todays music is just.....horrible, to knock the great acts of the 90's and early 2000's is just ignorant. Everything today is just a product of American Idol and whatever else the suits decide should be on the radio. No soul, character, talent, just cookie-cutter, common denominator bullshit. These people have earned nothing, haved never tasted desperate and have never been given the opportunity to prove anything and never will.
The beginning of the end of the good music era, in my opinion, started in the 90's with the advent of grunge rock and gangsta' rap. That was the catalyst for the start of the decline of quality music that was marketed to the general public. The majority of the music in the 80's was generally happy-go-lucky, free-spirited, and an almost anything goes mentality that made for some of the most original music ever recorded, and broadcast. Sure, some of it was cheesy, but that only added to the fun.
@TheARMAProductions Well I'm some one who grew up in the late 1990s and 2000s and felt there was factor in this time era to with everything you said. After 2008 I just didn't care much for the new factors though there were some decent ones and even now.
@TheARMAProductions What?! The same 80's which brought about an economic recession, with the mass sell off of public assets, high unemployed and interest rates? Yeah, keep smoking your crack pipe.
I had this song on a CD of mine back in 2008 and liked it so much that I would listen to it everyday numerous times until the disc scratched up badly and couldn't listen to it anymore. I was obsessed that much with this song I damaged the CD as a result.
This song is my definitive nostalgic song of my life. No one like this. The lyrics, the music. I can listen it a lot of times, everytime it´s different.
..teach a girl to tinkle on the inside of our toilets?...you know...every second or so The US Deficit increases 100,000 US Dollars...I guess the honourable President Ronald Reagan started borrowing in everyone's name...in order to Rule The World I guess...but if, We, The People had a Credit Card in Our Name...100,000 dollars to nothing and nowhere and wasting it every second or so...eating us alive!...that Boy President Barack Obama? no.
Everybody does want to rule the world...but they have to get back to work or they get fired.

The best of the 80's is TEARS FOR FEARS. Saw them in Clearlake, CA, ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO. They sound exactly as in the records.

..teach a girl to tinkle on the inside of our toilets?...you know...every second or so The US Deficit increases 100,000 US Dollars...I guess the honourable President Ronald Reagan started borrowing in everyone's name...in order to Rule The World I guess...but if, We, The People had a Credit Card in Our Name...100,000 dollars to nothing and nowhere and wasting it every second or so...eating us alive!...that Boy President Barack Obama? no.
