  • Hi so as long as u lessen ur long acting insulin and eat before and after a few drinks it shouldn't turn out bad the next morning?

  • why do you make a dam video if the viewers can't hear a dam word you are saying?

  • coool way to show stuff man...post some more like dese...

  • Thanks for that...My husband had his first ever hypoglycemic convulsion (after 25 years of diabetes), and we couldnt figure out why.

Your video explained why it happened early in the morning, after a night of drinking rum and coke...It was the Livers fault!

    Thanks

  • I do almost exactly what you do when you drink. Always always eat before drinking! I drink half a pedialyte before I go to bed, and yes the stuff for babies!

  • Fantastic video and very informative and made me smile;-))) we are all different and need to find what suits us best, I drink red wine and never go more than one bottle as this can get scary, beer can send me sky rocketing up and then sometimes dropping like a brick, I find red wine comfortable for me and now and then a few beers, but caution is always paramount, plan ahead if you can.

  • i have diabetes since 5y old and i drink votka beer and a lot stuff vine and more and dont have any problems am on pen do

  • great video. Everyone always says to just "don't drink" but sometimes... i want to be "normal".

I drink Michelob Ultra. I don't get too "lit" of fof it, but a nice buzz is good. And my BG only spikes a little. I can usually cover w two injections over the space of 4 hours.

Don't have too much issues w it. :)

  • what do u pay for an insulin pump in the states? i live in new zealand and they want 10 thousand dollars for one here, id like to try one but its not subsidised and i cant afford it

  • In the USA without insurance the pump alone without supplies is around $6,000 for supplies every 3 months around $800 or so. With insurance some plans cover 80% of the cost, even 100% sometimes. It all depends on your coverage and plans. Very complicated to say the least.

  • Thanks for posting this, I am in eighth grade and people are starting to drink in my grade. Some people steal drinks from the adults at bar/bat mitzvahs. I have friends who are starting to go to high school parties and drinking. Thanks for posting this, I was wondering if I could ever drink because of my diabetes (not now of course). My dad's aunt has type 2 and she doesn't drink. Thanks again!

  • C,

I know alot of T1 diabetics that don't drink at all. There is nothing to rush into of course and you are a very smart cookie. Alcohol puts another challenge on your system and your glucose control. That challenge for some is not worth all the risks. This video was to put a light on what alcohol does to a diabetics system. My Dr. never talked to me about this problem.

  • Thanks :)

  • Interesting. My dad died from diabetes. I mean he had some amputations and heart surgery and that lead to many many infections. He still kept that bottle of irish whiskey around though for an shot ever once in a while. I drink beer. Not a lot. Probably a 40 oz or two 24s every week or so. My wife hates that. Gee I love beer though.

  • Hopefully some light low carb beers!

  • I've been diabetic for 12yrs and have a pump too. you answered a lot of questions for me . thanks so much .

  • hey 1 happy diabetic, fellow type 1 diabetic and huge fan. i was diagnosed about 6 months ago and have learned alot since. however i started drinking with diabetes about a month ago. my blood sugar barely changes at all no matter how much i drink...the most its changed is +10 (after the point of throwing up). i drink low carb beers and chase hard alcohol with cherry coke zero (the best drink known to diabetics)...is there anything that could be happening to my body that i am unaware of?

  • Thanks for the comment. Glad yoour a huge fan! Well the big thing about drinking and diabetes is the prep before and after. Making sure to eat enough food before and after so you don't get low. At the time of drinking you might not have glucose swings it's after when your Liver has absorbed alcohol and can't release glucose when you need it. That's the scary part. Those lows are hard to treat and keep droping. So becareful. Seizures can happen in the early mornings after drinking.

  • hey im type 1 too woop woop :P

    lol :P

well when i drink i always have a high

carbohydrate me prior like chips and pizza

    :P

normally i drink beer and try to get drunk

enough im having fun but still able

to control things then before i goto bed my blood sugar is normally about 16

i then have a sandwhich and when i wake

up my blood sugar is around 7 or 8 :P

  • Sounds right to me. It's the liver not releasing glucose and yourself having to supply your body with more food to keep your glucose up!

  • kool nice video im a type one diabetic and i however inject....what i really want to know tho is firstly whether to take fast acting insulin or the long acting one before bed....and secondly how much of each do i need to take..its my 18th cuming up this sunday so my liver wiill most likely be overflowing...haha...i appreciate because you use the pump you might not know about the injections but would apprecitate any help from anyone??

    cheers:)

  • Im a type one dibetic and keep coming across this word BOLUS what the hell does it mean????

  • BOLUS is a delivery of insulin. Used when talking about delivering insulin with a pump mostly. If you do shots, each shot of fast acting insulin is a bolus of insulin. Basal, is the background insulin or long acting insulin if using shots.... so when pumper do insulin for a meal or correction of a high, we call it a "bolus" of insulin. Does that make sense? :-)

  • Yeah that makes sense nice one, but the word dont make any sense to me i call them units.

Are the pumps any better than shots and how does it feel having a needle in you all the time???

  • I sent you a message about pumps, check you mail box!

  • dude, two thumbs up from a fellow type 1.most of my troubles always happened after a night of partying.i love beer but its loaded with sugar so i gotta take it easy now..rum and diet coke if anything, but i prefer a visit from the grim creeper..lol..good ole mary jane,so much easier on the sugars...cheers from eastern canada

  • Ahhh the troubles after a night of drinking.... I've had'em too, that's why I actually made this video in hopes to save at least one Diabetic of those terrible mornings.... thanks for your comments

  • @tazztower44 I'm type one as well. I haven't visited the "grim creeper" since my diagnosis (June 07). I drink regularly, hey I'm Irish. I drink a few light beers and spirits mixed with no carb mixers. I would like to revisit my creeper past as an alternative but I must say one of my favorite things would be to blaze and hang out and EAT! I would have to really stock up on low carb protein snacks because my munchies were insatiable. And of course I'd eat everything we shouldn't now.

  • One tip is that u can eat a sandwich or something just before you get some sleep after the party!

  • LMAO! your videos are funny

  • thx :-0

  • wow! i find all your vidson diabetes entertaining and highly informative! i am a diabetic myself. been diagnosed with type 2 in may 2008 so im lookin for all the advice i can get

  • I got my Tattoos, in CT and South Beach Miami. Make sure your artist does good work! :-)

  • Hello man. So im diabetic type 1. i just wonder i usually just drink beer and is that less dangerus than Drinks with lots of sugar? I means it's muck more kallories but less sugar so it's must be a little better right?

Sorry for my english. Im swedish.

  • My Swedish buddy,

Drinks with less sugar for me are better because it keeps my sugar levels away from the ups and downs. So I agree with what your thinking.

    Drink in moderation of course.

  • ok well i have drank a whole lot and my blood sugar sky rocketed so i did insulin and i started to feel low so i checked and i was so i tried drinking a sugary drink is that ok?

  • Yes and no... its a doubled edged sword. The sugar in the drink will help you quickly but the alcohol is what is going to prevent your liver from releasing glucose. You think you are treating a low, but while sleeping or later on you could be in serious trouble. Which could be worse, going to be thinking you are ok. Try drinking a sugary drink without alcohol and sober up best you can to be safe. Thanks for your question I hope it helps

  • I eat 2 hours before so the insulin is almost out of my system. Also I like to have my glucose at about 180mgl.Hypo is the big scare so keep your sugar at about 180 or up.I drink about 8-10 coors lights(5carbs each). The carb and alcohol couter them selves. If it goes hight a very small bolus 1 unit or switch to a few shots!Happy drinking and test alot during and after!(1 time per hour)

  • Great advice I agree with what you said. Coors Light must be the Diabetic beer drink of choice, my favorite! Low carbs. I like the 180 mark too, and I try not to push my limits. Important to mention that the drop in Blood sugar that can happpen, happens usually a few hours after. Take Care

  • what there is song?

  • i dont know if you know this but drinking and being a diabetic as i am is a chance of getting drunk faster because as soon as ure liver stiop working the drunk stays in you body ontill you piss the alcohol out that was in your liver so mean while your not pissing you stay drunk for a long time and get drunk faster and if you dont eat while drinking and the drink is low in sugar your sugar can go really low .........

  • true

  • Hey, come to think of it, getting smashed is the ONLY time I'm "1happydiabetic"!

PS I seriously disagree with the low-carb drinks suggestion. That's a recipe for a serious low.

  • Good Point"s"

In the mist of drunkness many bad things can happen. Sure High Carb drinks can save you, but preparing with Food prior makes it less of a guessing game with the correct BG.

With that said... that is HARD to do.

Sometimes those high carb drinks are good to rise your sugar so you don't have to worry as much... but doing insulin while drinking is like putting gas on a fire sometimes.

Thanks for you post, very true, thank you.

  • sry, im a bit confused...so diabetics can or cannot drink?

Im a type 1 diabetic and my sugar seems fine when I drink...I dont drink much but i was just wondering..=)

by the way, love ur videos!

  • Drinking Alcohol is Like eating a candy bar for a Diabetic. Most people will say "oh my, your eating a candy bar and you are a Diabetic!"

You just have to becareful, drinkning drinks with lots of sugar is hard to control. And you have a higher chance of a Black out the following morning becasue of your liver being aloof.

    Does that make sense?

  • got it...thank you!

  • Cheers

  • Bill, another great video! Thanks!

  • Thank you. Send me those traveling videos. I'll put together something nice. That will be my next project!

  • i always wondered how drinking would work out when i become of the age...

    thanks!

    it helped quite alot!

  • What is most important things is to be a high back high-protein meal. Reason being is that those carbohydrates will help you while in the night hours in early morning light or liver is trying to sober up. It's the only way to play

  • this video makes me want a drink..(or 3) test things out

    great video!

  • Let me tell you, that food was AMAZING. The drinks were better. We had a great time, I am glad you guys are enjoying the Videos. Hope it helps

  • LOL! Have fun.

Don't hurl up the onion rings!

  • Those Rings, were made for kings! So Good!

  • awesome vid :) great for the newly diagnosed type 1 like myself!

  • when were u diagnosed? im new too =)

  • I was diagnosed in 1988. 20 Years ago!

  • o my bad...i was diagnosed 4 months ago..lol

  • No, don't worry... see I'm here to help you with real life stuff like drinking and how to do it right and be as save as possible. I have had some bad experiences with my Diabetes in all areas, so if I can give some tips that makes me Happy.
