@tldtoday I've sorta been looking for something a little smaller and stronger than my 16 inch HP for school and was wondering if you think it would be a huge (bad) change to do that. Purely size and comfort not os.
You know that if you get a "Solid State Drive" the computer will boot up quicker -- and loading screens. They may have less memory, but they make things go so quickly. It's worth it.
@RandomTechUniversity your stupid... how fast a computer starts up isnt affected by it having more ram or being a quad core, you will see when you try to run anything slightly cpu intensive
@fartacle I got the 13, my only complain is the pathetic 5400rpm drive. I noticed real differences coming from two 7200rpms in my desktop. I'm planning to put an SSD.
@indianindianindian9 Bro, Linux sucks. Macs are NOT a piece of trash...apparently, no one's listening to you as you "opening the eyes of everyone" because the a huge portion of the world in PC and then more than half of the rest and Macs. Linux is...just shit. Troll.
im getting a MBP for college, and im basically using it for graphic design work.. would the 13inch or 15inch be better? I also want a laptop where i could casually game and maybe play a couple FPS's.
@SneakerNERD22 15 inch. Onboard graphics on the 13 inch are crap. 15 Inch is decent, as long as it's the highend one. The lower end one will still fare better than the 13 inch, but I wouldn't recommend it.
you do understand its more about the hard drive than processor to prove said fact i can take a old dell with a singe core centrino and put a ssd in it and it would smoke it i only know this cuz i tryed
I got a 2011 macbook pro and I do video editing. I'm not editing a feature film but I think it does the job alright. It slows down a bit but I'm fine with it as I usually go do something else for a few minutes while it renders. Fcp10 runs alright not the best. Imovie is okay too.
Yeah, I feel that way too. I started off with an ipod shuffle in 2005, and gradually moved to the touch in 2008, bought the 4th gen touch in 2011, then an iphone 4 early 2011, then the ipad 2 at launch, then a couple of days ago a 2011 Macbook Pro 13 inch. It gets addicting I must say lol. But Apple products satisfy me to be honest.
This video just goes to show that the extra 300 bucks isnt worth upgrading to an i7. The i5 is just fine, and isn't that much slower. I think it's worth saving money. Using my 13.3" also makes the 15 look too big; it's the perfect size for a laptop.
@cheesefish90 Agreed, however if I were to get ANY macbook pro I would spend the extra money to upgrade the RAM from 4gb to 8gb (not through Apple though..they're high if they think I'll pay $200)
Hi, I'm a grad student looking to replace my shitty old Gateway with a mbp. I plan to use it for Illustrator, photoshop and the sims 3. I can't decide between the 13 and 15 inch! I love the size of the 15 inch, but I also need to save money! So... which one do I go for? I don't technically need a fancy computer, but I'd like it to handle everything without overheating or crashing. Is there such a huge difference between 2duo and quadcore? Derp.
Too late- I already bought the 13 inch, and so far it's okay for what I use it for. If I decide to into more detailed graphic work I'll probably invest in an imac.
Im thinking of purchesing a mscbook pro for video editing such as premiere, encore, after effects etc. etc. Would the 13inch with i7 do fine or should i get the 15inch with i7 (quad core)??
i'm thinking of getting a macbook pro but am torn between the 13 inch and 15 inch with 256GB SSD. i know that the 13 inch has 2.7ghz while 15 inch has 2.3ghz and also the 15 inchers are equipped with the AMD radeon. there's about a 1000 dollars difference in the price...is the 15 inch worth it?? or should i just go with the 13 inch?
I've had all three of the Apple products in this video, haha. I recently returned the 13'' in favor of the 15''. Just got it today, and WOW. LOVE IT!!! It's got such a nice screen without being huge like the 17'' or teeny like the 13''. It's so fast and I am loving it! I got it for a steal and brand-new; $1355! So stoked. :)
Hi, I'm going to buy a mabook pro but I'm undecided between the 13" or 15"..I'm a architecture student and I work with a lot of programs like photoshop, illustrator, autocad...I just want to know if there is a big difference between each other beacuse I like the 13 beacuse it's smaller and cheaper but the 15 it's more faster I think...can anyone help me chose one?
@maireny It sounds like you wouldn't really need the extra speed, I think a 13 inch would do fine, borrowed 13 inch from some of my friends on certain occasions, it doesnt seem like you would need the extra speed, the 13 inch doesn't slow down or lag too much, if any lag at all. The 13 inch that my friends let me use were both 2011 entree priced macbook pros, idk if it would really make a difference but, you could order a custom build on apples website, with 8 RAM if you really wanted to.
@SOLE1PRODUCTIONS Dont ever buy ram from apple, they rip you off. get it at newegg for less than half the price. Dont get the 2.3 also!! this is a waste of money, it makes little difference. spend that money to a SSD its the most important upgrade you can get these days.
@maireny My personal opinion is that, though the 15" is bigger and faster, the 13"is (obviously) more flexible when it comes to carry it around. Specially having it in your bag, the 13" fits nearly everywhere.
In my studies we often use photoshop, illustrator, video-editing etc. and it runs fine on the 13". Of course theres a bit waiting now and then. One thing though is the small screen, which gets annoying after several hours of editing pictures/video.
the laptops are so similar in speed..the 15 inch is a lot more pricey and i think its only worth it if you are a gamer or designer. i got the 13 inch for college and games :)
start-up might take time according to the amout of stuff it has on its HD....i notices when i bought my mac pro new it was so quick to start..but now its taking a bit more time...then it was earlier...
@JakeLofven1 - MBP is more powerful. MBA is more portable. If you want to do really basic video editing, both would serve you. For more demanding video editing go for the MBP.
So i just tested me new 13" i5 ssd. I had MAIL automatically boot up from start and it did it all in 16 seconds! I am super impressed with this machine!
I don't get it: why would anyone care for boot up speeds on a Mac? How reboots a MacBook? My last reboot was about 1 1/2 month ago.
Every new mac user I have to explain that you don't have to power it down and that, no, it doesn't damage your computer. And I think videos like this don't help ;)
followed all the rules to enter Blue yeti Mic giveaway and hope i win because just made my new channel and started posting new videos and it would be really really great if i won that Mic because i live outside of US and it is really expensive here and i wanted to boost my sound quality in my videos.
@gapsinteeth123 the 13" feels like a 15" if you get the HD display, but if it's going to be your main machine, or you'll be using it for extended periods of time, get the 15"; less eye strain
Right now I have a 27 inch iMac, May 2010 revision, and I need a Macbook Pro for portability, mainly for casual gaming, school, and some video editing. The only thing thats upping me to wanting the 15 inch instead of the baseline 13 inch is the processor, and the graphics card, but I cant decide if its worth it to pay the extra $600 just to get the 15 inch one Any help please?
@xxisean678 I've been looking at the same issue for about a week now and just ordered my 13" today! Honestly though, I do not do any gaming and only get into photo editing. So I'm a pretty lightweight computer user so the processor would have been wasted on me. If you're going to be doing a lot of video editing and gaming I would for SURE get the 15 but money and portability are definitely with the 13.
Just a quick question to any 13" owners.... I'm thinking of purchasing one very soon, can anyone inform me on how they've got on with the size of the unit, is it too small?
@gapsinteeth123 this is my second 13inch macbook and honestly its the best size its definitely not to small and its portable its a very comfortable size ..i really recommend it :D
@gapsinteeth123 I own a few 13" MacBooks and 1 MacBook Pro in 13" and 1 in 15". I can tell you, that you only notice what your missing once you've been using the 15" for a while. Everything fits snugly on the 13" screen which is the best compromise of size and portability. Trust me, unless you're really keen on screen size and you find smaller screens too cluttered it's not to small. You'll miss the size if you do video editing.
Its ugly upgrade. They realease new model almost every 6 months with super 0,05% faster hardware than previous one. What the hell? I have MBP 13" released in mid 2009 and i dont see any serious reason to change it for new model. This is all about bussiness. The only new feature in last months is that they released poor AppStore. And no comment on iPad1 vs iPad2. Apple is more boring as time goes.
@milesthegreatbt dude im in the same boat as you. I got the 13 inch..and I cant slap my parents in the face and say no I want the 15 now O_o... im hearing the 15' has better graphics card for gaming? but...could the 13 inch still handle games pretty good?
The 15 inch model is equipped with the intel i7 quad core processor featuring the new Sandybridge architecture. Whereas, the 13inch model is equipped with the intel i7 DUAL core processor. The 15 inch model may also have a faster rpm hard drive.
If you want to find out more, be sure to check our channel in a few weeks time for unboxings and full reviews of the Macbook 15 inch and 17 inch models.
It is a common misconception to think the title of i7 is exclusively given to quad core processors, however it is also given to HIGH END dual core processors - high end meaning high clock speeds. Hope this clears things up.
Adding to that, the i5 and i7 processors are hyperthreaded, so one core can run 2 threads at a time. Many sites including from DELL advertises the "number of threads" per processor rather than number of cores. For example the i5 dual core processor here in this Mac can run 4 threads simultaneously. Many people are misguided to think the processors are actually quad core...
@TheAsianGrocer They are both sandy bridge, both have thunderbolt, but the 13" is i*5* not 7. Another huge difference is the video cards. Faster hard drive is an option on both machine. Be sure to read about these products before commenting lmao. How did that get 34 likes? *stunned*
Sandrybridge isn't the architecture. Sandybridge is the code name. The architecture of the Sandybridge processors is 32nm, which is the size of the transistors.
@TheAsianGrocer they are both 5400rpm hdd's. the macbookpro 15 inch is just way more powerful looking at its hardware. but the boot up time is mainly decided by the speed of the hdd. if u want a real fast boot up, get a ssd :)
Hey man nice Vid !! okay so listen up about 7 months ago i got a as a gift mac book 15 i5 500gb 2.5 4gb 1067 mhz DDR3, i really want the new mac book that they came out with i know it is better than mine what should i do should i sell my macbook that i have right now on ebay and if so how much is the difference between the new one and mine im not really a computer guy but im going to college now and i am going to MIT also how much should i put it on ebay for
This review lacks of more information. Never mention about wether if it's running 4 or 8gb ram, solid state or hard drive. This will make a big differencecon booting time.
I've got a MBP 17 unibody from when they first came out with a 2.66 intel core 2 duo in it. I plan to buy an iMac and a smaller MBP. The smaller MBP is simply for editing in final cut when on the go. Do they plan on putting out a quad core 13'' or not? I realize that the screen is smaller but how much slower/faster would the 15 or 13 be?

What was the purpose of the iPhone/iPod (can't really tell but I think it's an iPhone)? I mean, it's not like the timing on it was accurate.

Wow, that MBP 15" is brand new and it has a dent on it.
I hate it when people don't take care of their electronics and keep them nice.

@TheJZ805 you are not going to MIT
garibaldi904 11 months ago
who cares about one is a couple seconds ahead of the other. GO 13'!!!
TheRavensfan300 11 months ago
So, what was that? Who cares about boot time? I boot my 2 years old MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo once in two weeks or so, and my boot time 30 seconds. :)
iappsdev 11 months ago
@gapsinteeth123 the 13" feels like a 15" if you get the HD display, but if it's going to be your main machine, or you'll be using it for extended periods of time, get the 15"; less eye strain

AbsolutelyJosh 11 months ago
Im trying to decide between which one to get.
Right now I have a 27 inch iMac, May 2010 revision, and I need a Macbook Pro for portability, mainly for casual gaming, school, and some video editing. The only thing thats upping me to wanting the 15 inch instead of the baseline 13 inch is the processor, and the graphics card, but I cant decide if its worth it to pay the extra $600 just to get the 15 inch one Any help please?
xxisean678 11 months ago
@xxisean678 I've been looking at the same issue for about a week now and just ordered my 13" today! Honestly though, I do not do any gaming and only get into photo editing. So I'm a pretty lightweight computer user so the processor would have been wasted on me. If you're going to be doing a lot of video editing and gaming I would for SURE get the 15 but money and portability are definitely with the 13.

Just a quick question to any 13" owners.... I'm thinking of purchasing one very soon, can anyone inform me on how they've got on with the size of the unit, is it too small?
gapsinteeth123 11 months ago
@gapsinteeth123 this is my second 13inch macbook and honestly its the best size its definitely not to small and its portable its a very comfortable size ..i really recommend it :D
MEtubeee96 11 months ago
@gapsinteeth123 I own a few 13" MacBooks and 1 MacBook Pro in 13" and 1 in 15". I can tell you, that you only notice what your missing once you've been using the 15" for a while. Everything fits snugly on the 13" screen which is the best compromise of size and portability. Trust me, unless you're really keen on screen size and you find smaller screens too cluttered it's not to small. You'll miss the size if you do video editing.

cabanos 11 months ago
Its ugly upgrade. They realease new model almost every 6 months with super 0,05% faster hardware than previous one. What the hell? I have MBP 13" released in mid 2009 and i dont see any serious reason to change it for new model. This is all about bussiness. The only new feature in last months is that they released poor AppStore. And no comment on iPad1 vs iPad2. Apple is more boring as time goes.

any explanation why the 15inch boots faster? lol
damienfr6wah 1 year ago
@damienfr6wah
TheAsianGrocer 11 months ago 46
@TheAsianGrocer i7 is quadcore, i5 is duo core.
SimonFanTV 11 months ago
@SimonFanTV
I am not sure if you have seen the Apple website recently, but this is taken directly from the 13 inch Macbook Pro technical specifications page:
"2.7GHz dual-core Intel Core i7 processor with 4MB shared L3 cache"
It is a common misconception to think the title of i7 is exclusively given to quad core processors, however it is also given to HIGH END dual core processors - high end meaning high clock speeds. Hope this clears things up.
TheAsianGrocer 11 months ago 15
@TheAsianGrocer That guy who works at Futureshop lied to me!
SimonFanTV 11 months ago
@TheAsianGrocer
TNTsundar 8 months ago
@TheAsianGrocer They are both sandy bridge, both have thunderbolt, but the 13" is i*5* not 7. Another huge difference is the video cards. Faster hard drive is an option on both machine. Be sure to read about these products before commenting lmao. How did that get 34 likes? *stunned*
djruinerdotcom 8 months ago
@TheAsianGrocer
Sandrybridge isn't the architecture. Sandybridge is the code name. The architecture of the Sandybridge processors is 32nm, which is the size of the transistors.
Mr18Theta 8 months ago
@TheAsianGrocer dumbass.. the 13 inch doesn't even have an i7 version
Mejevoli 8 months ago
@TheAsianGrocer they are both 5400rpm hdd's. the macbookpro 15 inch is just way more powerful looking at its hardware. but the boot up time is mainly decided by the speed of the hdd. if u want a real fast boot up, get a ssd :)
