I think that prs is replica of fender + gibson so we can not comparison these two guitar. Gibson is better for the crunchy tone and heavy drive tone since it sounds like warmer. On the other hand, prs is squeeze between fender and gibson wrt its tone. However, Prs is good for people who want to get wide tone scale in one guitar but i prefer to use two guitar for get better sound.
I had been listening a conversation last weekend, where they were talking about which guitar is the best out there on the market and I decided to find out for myself on the internet.
I couldn't believe my eyes and was very amused when I coincidentally stumbled across this video :)
And oh yeah.... it seems that both guitars are f**** great!!! But horrible expensive...

Dang, I liked almost all of the songs you were playing. What songs are at 7:57 and 9:10 ? scrolled through the youtube comments but could find the names for those
Thanks a lot - great timing that I looked at this today because I've been torn between these exact two guitars for ages now and I think I've now decided prs is the one for me :) thanks, great video and it's really helped :)
I love your guitars man. I'm about to order a new LP Standard and saw your vid right now. I'm begining to think I'm making a mistake . The thing is I'm from Mexico and down here there are no guitar centers to try these out. I'm also having doubts since I've read bad stuff about quality control by Gibson, and the durability of their necks. I love Gibson's fat tone, but I'm having these second thoughts. What would your advice be? I play rock mainly. Thank you!
@rodriguethe Dude if you like the sound of Les Pauls don't think about it too long. These are great guitars and if you don't smash them to the wall they'll not brake.
Anyways my Les Paul Custom has a broken/repaired headstock and she is still awesome, works perfect!!! So don't worry about these things.
The pickups are wound different and the gibsons has covered pups with a thicker body. And the measurements of where the humbuckers are different by a couple mm. I personally will prefer a prs with some p90's by bare knuckles and some vitamin q oil paper to control the tone knobs.
Its a hard decision, in my opinion On high gain sounds the Prs sounds better, it has a more open and natural sound but its still warm. Its not better by much though WHEREAS on clean Gibson's warmth and deep sound just wins it, that too by a mile...

They both are nearly the same! but the prs is slightly more distored than the les paul. Its rather dependent on someones taste which is better, but if you want a good sound for a cheaper price, i would ditch the prs and instead go with the les paul and either use duncan or emg pickups or buy a distortion pedal (unless if your willing to spend for a sweet looking PRS! :D)
The Prs sounded a little smoother, while the Gibson was a little ballsier (might have spelled it wrong). I kinda dig the PRS though.. Personal opinion. Awesome comparison!!!!
@drnoward Hali!
@falden82 shit, I thought you were using some kind of desktop modeling software since you said "laptop" in the vid. my bad. excellent playing. and yeah I mean rig lol.
the prs has lots more clarity, and you can have a very les paul like sound as showed here while having funky, almost strat-ish cleans aswell. and last but not least you can reach all 24 frets without killing your fingers on a prs. a les paul feels almost like an acoustic with cutaway in terms of neck joint imo, i give up playing scales and arpeggios at the 17th fret.
@kylepianoman If you have troubles with heavy guitars don't buy a Les Paul! Maybe the newer ones with the chambered body are lighter but the older (might I say "real" ones, I don't know) are heavy. PRS guitars are light weight guitars just as givemeajackson says. Don't hesitate to try one, you'll like (beside other stuff) the weight too.
...also keep in mind, there are dozens of sounds available by manipulating the Volume and Tone controls on the PRS - it took me a few years to discover. Play around with the Volume at 7 and then at 3, all different pickup settings. And Try the Tone down to 7. Trust me - the guitar was designed with this in mind ;-)
I finally got a LP Standard to compliment my PRS CU22. Gibson: more chunk, more bass for sure, just butter. After the honeymoon I use them about 50/50 ...though my recording partner prefers the Les Paul sound. Also of note here - having the pickups covered (LP) will mellow out the sound some. PRS without covers has even more bite than normal.
You can't really tell the difference in overdrive, but cleanly, the Gibson definitely has the heavier sound. It's heavier in weight, and it's a solid chunk of mahogany.
Gibsons and PRS's are amazing guitars, but PRS is better made, and feels better. Also, the tops that PRS guitars have are actually one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on a guitar.

Sticking to PRS and Carvin from now on.
The PRS has a worse bridge pickup. U should try using the same pickups in both instruments so we can hear just the body differences. Sounds like, as expected, the Les Paul has more nasal honk because of the more round (banjo-like) shape 2 it. Also has a bit more balls 'cuz thicker wood. They should make the PRS thicker, & use the Gibson pickups in the PRS, then it will B better in all respects =)
They both sound great! I am shopping for a new guitar right now. I used to own a Prs McCarty. LOVED IT! I was thinking about getting a les paul this time. I AM TORN. I play mostly blues music. I have small fingers and I heard that it would be more easy to play a PRS. What do you like?
Nice work man! The PRS is really unbeateable in hi gain territory, but your Les Paul sounds awesome on clean and crunch. It must be mainly the pick ups (Gibson don't put hi outputs on Les Pauls). Keep rockin!
I closed my eyes and tried to guess which guitar he was playing and I guessed right every time. I always liked the Les Paul's sound better. I guess my preference is the Les Paul. However, they are so heavy for a 90 lb girl like me! The PRS is so much lighter and easier to play for a girl like me (sadly).
@uc383 Try the Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro. It has a solid (unchambered b.s.) body, real maple top. Exceptional set up by the PLEK system, perfect Pickups combo, and locking tuners! Its the Les Paul I had been waiting for!
This Vid goes to show that once you pass a certain price point, no guitar is "better" than another. It comes down to prefference, The sound, feel, and features that feel right to you. I used to think PRS blew away any Gibson, till I got my Gibson Les Paul Standard Traditional Pro. Thats all I play on now. Best guitar I have ever played! Hands Down!
I like the Custom 24 over the Les Paul. The Les Paul is great, but I like the Custom 24 because it's lighter, it has a thinner neck, and because it doesn't get as muddy as a Les Paul. But the Les Paul has a great heavy screaming tone, while the PRS is more smooth sounding.
I go back to the PRS every time, even as much as I'd prefer to play a Les Paul because of the mental mojo. But it's just a matter of preference. I wish Gibson would get back to making great guitars with real inlays, top quality materials, clean up their fret work, only use high quality rosewood, stop doing weight relief, do a real full setup before leaving the factory, & rely a little less on the name for sales. PRS was headed that way for a couple yrs but seems to have gotten back on track.
i have both a prs and a lp. in my opinion the lp sounds a liiiitle better but when you pick up the prs its like a dream :) i prefer playing with my prs any time. so if i would have to choose one i would say prs.
They sound quite close but the PRS seems to have more elevated mids than the LP, at least to my ignorant ear. The LP has a little more rounded sound but it's so marginally imperceptible that the ergonomics of the PRS would make it a better choice. The LP is like a heavy box around a player's neck and the edges are harder on the right arm. I would prefer the PRS for its overall package of easier lines, looks, tone and sexiness.
@fragman08 Are you sure it's not a PRS Custom 24 SE? The SE is made in Korea. It's still a nice guitar and has a similar feel to the American made, but has subtle differences.
@fragman08 I've got one and I love it. Not as good as the American made one but it has a very similar feel. There is much more detail in the American made one and it does sound nicer but the SE is great bang for buck and is still well made.
@fragman08 Yeah there are. Different pickups (have a listen to some SE demos and reviews to see if you still like the sound), it only has a 3 way switch rather than the 5 way, the American made one has locking tuners which I wish mine had. I'm sure there are a couple of other differences I've forgotten.
@kjetilslash the bird inlay is an extra option. If you don't ask for it you get only the dots. It's normal, and of course it's still original and everything... :)
@kjetilslash I think that means it's a Student Edition, or SE for short. The new SE models have bird-inlays but originally they had dots, or rather crescent moons, if you look closely.
Does anyone know if anyone has ever tried putting gibson humbuckers in a PRS? I think that might give a prs a little more of the classic sound. Im very curious would love to get a prs one day but id love to throw in some.
hi dude great demo indeed ,,,, iwant to know if you play hard rock and metal style what guitar will you prefer prs custom 24 2011 or a gibson les paul standard 2011 , i can spend 2600 bucks in my pocket
@jgcapdevielle les paul has more character, PRS is more versatile. I prefer the les paul even with the sacrifice of the extra frets and splitted sounds. But that's only me bro, you have to know what's your peace of cake. :)
@jgcapdevielle well dude if you want a serious metal axe then don't go for any of these two guitars.....get yourself a custom built KXK Warrior V....that guitar beats the shit outta any gibson and prs....
@canadaguy2112ca I cannot speak for the les paul but I started playing ibanez guitars loving the thin necks.. then I bought a PRS custom 24 (wide thin) : LOOOVED the neck, best I ever played
@canadaguy2112ca the neck on the PRS is probably THE best thing about the guitar. It's just perfect. I mean if you like a paper thin Ibanez wizard neck, then you'll find everything too thick. :) But then you gotta buy an ibanez and be happy with it.
Both the les paul and the prs have awesome thin necks. The fretboard on the les paul is a little flatter, on the prs it's a little rounder. And maybe the prs neck is a little thinner but no big difference.
hey!! very nice!! like the tone of the les paul a bit more. gonna try some of the settings you displayed. i play a 6505+ with a 2004 les paul classic. my back up guitar is an ibanez RGA121. my cab is a randall XL with two celestion 12" greenbacks and one eminence ledgend 15" thanks for showing amp settings!!!
hey!! very nice!! like the tone of the les paul a bit more. gonna try some of the settings you displayed. i play a 6505+ with a 2004 les paul classic. my back up guitar is an ibanez RGA121. thanks.
The PRS sounds more lively and 'faster' responding.. the LP sounds heavier and fatter.. the sky is the limit. I can imagine the PRS cutting through a busy mix with lets say two guitars, bass and drums a little better than the LP , but I can as well imagine using the LP for recordings to achieve a fat grinding rock tone.. :)
Can anyone tell me if prs guitars or gibson guitars are better? I've been thinking about getting a gibson sg, but some people at a guitar shop keep telling me prs guitars better and cheaper. I know the cheaper part is true, but are they really better?
In my opinion the Gibson sounds more solid and the PRS has an extra whine in whatever you play. I like the Gibson overall, but the PRS comes ahead in the heavier songs or fast melodic solos. But still on the SCo'Mine solo the Gibson sounds better, so I kinda don't know what I'm saying. I can't decide. Both thumbs up. And two more for the video.
the les paul does it for me, but the single coil tones from the prs are awesome as well... overall the les paul still wins though, nice vid and playing :)
The PRS sounds like a cleaner version of the Les Paul.

Lol, Sweet Child o' Mine.

I like the Custom 24 over the Les Paul. The Les Paul is great, but I like the Custom 24 because it's lighter, it has a thinner neck, and because it doesn't get as muddy as a Les Paul. But the Les Paul has a great heavy screaming tone, while the PRS is more smooth sounding.
blm0724 5 months ago
I go back to the PRS every time, even as much as I'd prefer to play a Les Paul because of the mental mojo. But it's just a matter of preference. I wish Gibson would get back to making great guitars with real inlays, top quality materials, clean up their fret work, only use high quality rosewood, stop doing weight relief, do a real full setup before leaving the factory, & rely a little less on the name for sales. PRS was headed that way for a couple yrs but seems to have gotten back on track.

the best les paul vs prs on youtube. thank you

Excellent demo. You did everything right. (unlike most Youtube demos!) Both guitars have their niceties. But the PRS wins the beauty contest!

prs sounds better to me.. plus its finish is damnnn sexy!!!
guitar43ver 6 months ago
i have both a prs and a lp. in my opinion the lp sounds a liiiitle better but when you pick up the prs its like a dream :) i prefer playing with my prs any time. so if i would have to choose one i would say prs.
omersubno1 6 months ago
They sound quite close but the PRS seems to have more elevated mids than the LP, at least to my ignorant ear. The LP has a little more rounded sound but it's so marginally imperceptible that the ergonomics of the PRS would make it a better choice. The LP is like a heavy box around a player's neck and the edges are harder on the right arm. I would prefer the PRS for its overall package of easier lines, looks, tone and sexiness.

How much did you pay for the custom 24 ?
Nice comparison man !
Letemtalk666 6 months ago
@Letemtalk666 I don't know it exactly, it was a long time ago... Around 1500-1700 euro used.
falden82 6 months ago
@falden82 Here in england I can grab one for about 600 euros, have they dropped in quality or something?
fragman08 4 months ago
@fragman08 Are you sure it's not a PRS Custom 24 SE? The SE is made in Korea. It's still a nice guitar and has a similar feel to the American made, but has subtle differences.
Marzorbit2 4 months ago in playlist More videos from falden82
@Marzorbit2 yes, sorry, my mistake =P
fragman08 4 months ago
@fragman08 I've got one and I love it. Not as good as the American made one but it has a very similar feel. There is much more detail in the American made one and it does sound nicer but the SE is great bang for buck and is still well made.
Marzorbit2 4 months ago
@Marzorbit2 are there hardware differences or is it just the location it's made in? Cheers for the info.
fragman08 4 months ago
@fragman08 Yeah there are. Different pickups (have a listen to some SE demos and reviews to see if you still like the sound), it only has a 3 way switch rather than the 5 way, the American made one has locking tuners which I wish mine had. I'm sure there are a couple of other differences I've forgotten.

I'm thinking about buying a used PRS Custom 24. It's a Goldtop, but it doesn't have the bird-inlays. Does anyone know why?
kjetilslash 6 months ago
@kjetilslash the bird inlay is an extra option. If you don't ask for it you get only the dots. It's normal, and of course it's still original and everything... :)
falden82 6 months ago
@kjetilslash I think that means it's a Student Edition, or SE for short. The new SE models have bird-inlays but originally they had dots, or rather crescent moons, if you look closely.
kaiserthegreat1 5 months ago
They sound pretty much identical! I bet if you did a blind test no one could identify which was which... (I own a PRS and an LP too.. : )
malthus101 6 months ago
Does anyone know if anyone has ever tried putting gibson humbuckers in a PRS? I think that might give a prs a little more of the classic sound. Im very curious would love to get a prs one day but id love to throw in some.
eatthemoon13 6 months ago
hi dude great demo indeed ,,,, iwant to know if you play hard rock and metal style what guitar will you prefer prs custom 24 2011 or a gibson les paul standard 2011 , i can spend 2600 bucks in my pocket
jgcapdevielle 7 months ago
@jgcapdevielle les paul has more character, PRS is more versatile. I prefer the les paul even with the sacrifice of the extra frets and splitted sounds. But that's only me bro, you have to know what's your peace of cake. :)
falden82 6 months ago
@jgcapdevielle well dude if you want a serious metal axe then don't go for any of these two guitars.....get yourself a custom built KXK Warrior V....that guitar beats the shit outta any gibson and prs....

How does the neck thickness compare?? I like a thinner neck.
canadaguy2112ca 7 months ago
@canadaguy2112ca I cannot speak for the les paul but I started playing ibanez guitars loving the thin necks.. then I bought a PRS custom 24 (wide thin) : LOOOVED the neck, best I ever played
disturbtheworlds 7 months ago
is the neck on the PRS curved or is it flat like the gibson?
canadaguy2112ca 7 months ago
@canadaguy2112ca the neck on the PRS is probably THE best thing about the guitar. It's just perfect. I mean if you like a paper thin Ibanez wizard neck, then you'll find everything too thick. :) But then you gotta buy an ibanez and be happy with it.
Both the les paul and the prs have awesome thin necks. The fretboard on the les paul is a little flatter, on the prs it's a little rounder. And maybe the prs neck is a little thinner but no big difference.

Prs Wayy Much Better and Faster.!
mike997774 7 months ago

IbanezNick75 8 months ago
is it just me or the prs sounds a little too choppy and trebleish even in the neck pickup?
and the million dollar question: which one's your personal favorite? or at least which one you use the most?

great demo!!both guitars sound awesome!i got 2 years ago my prs custom 24 and i love it as much as i did the first day i got it!
silentkiller0123 8 months ago
In my opinion the Gibson sounds more solid and the PRS has an extra whine in whatever you play. I like the Gibson overall, but the PRS comes ahead in the heavier songs or fast melodic solos. But still on the SCo'Mine solo the Gibson sounds better, so I kinda don't know what I'm saying. I can't decide. Both thumbs up. And two more for the video.

it s amazing with those kind of mass production amps these guitars sound almost the same!! try them on real amps!
