  • kam sam ni da!(this means thank you right?) for the kimbap tutorial!

  • waaah... you are soo good at preparing foods! i wish i would be as good as you in the future.. thanks for sharing your talents and skills in cooking.. kamsamnida! kumawow yo...

  • love it.. need to try ur kimbap recipe... where do i get the pickled radish? love korean food and love korean soaps :) i'm not even korean but i do love ur culture. ty again for sharing ur recipe... i always see this in korean soaps but not sure whats it called... they usually mixed everythign in a bowl, with rice, i think kimhi, and something else... it looks yumm but not sure how to make it or the name of it... if u do know it, can u pls share the recipe. i want to try it :)

  • @risyel611 Check out the written recipe on my website please. All info you are looking for is posted. Yellow pickled radish is sold a Korean grocery store.

  • @risyel611 i think you're talking about bibimbap? it's so good :DD

  • Thanks Maangchi!!! The recipe is really simple and easy. I'm going to try to make this (I'm 12) for my mom and brother. Thanks (:

  • maangchi, for the rice, should I use short grain or long grain rice?

  • @matsujunyuri yes, short grain rice is used for kimbap.

  • That looks like sushi. :)

  • @9HereticPrincess9 yeah, it is similar to japanese onigiri

  • please come be my cook.

  • hi.. erm.. for the rice, do i have to use the sushi rice? or normal rice would do?

  • I love kimbap. I have a quick question though. Do you have to put the vingear, suguar, and salt for the rice or can u use just rice to make the kimbap?

  • Maangchi, I noticed they have different flavoured canned tuna at the Korean supermarket. I bought a gochujang flavoured canned tuna. In this case, do I still need to season the tuna or would it be flavourful enough that I wouldn't need to? (I haven't opened the can to taste it yet so I'm not sure...) Please advise :D

  • @LANEIGEgirl Gochujang flavored tuna is not used for this recipe. Eat it as a side dish with rice. Cheers!

  • Maangchi! I tried your tuna kimbap recipe twice now in the last 4 weeks and I have to say that it turned out amazing! I tried to remove the avocado seed like you did, but failed... Haha :] Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful recipes with us! Can't wait to try out more. God bless!

  • @LANEIGEgirl "I tried to remove the avocado seed like you did, but failed...." be careful! : )

  • @janeywaney03 koreans only use short/medium grain rice to cook korean food. No jasmine either rose rice.

  • I like how u attack the avocado seed with ur knife

  • could i make this the night before and save it for lunch the next day?

  • When rolling the kimbap do you have to use the mat you used to roll the kimbap ??

cause i dont have one and what is that mat called??

  • @yeshyesh786 Check out the photo on my website (kitchenware section). It's called gimbal or kimbap.

  • @Maangchi Do when makin kimbap do i HAVE to use gimbal

  • do the tuna have a strong taste?

  • What kind of vinegar do you use? Rice Vinegar?

  • @EunUnni I like to use apple vinegar but sometimes I use white vinegar, too.

  • Love your recipe! At home we make kimpab with ground beef or even smoked salmon instead of tuna... but your rolling technique looks much easier than mine, I will try it that way next time :)

    Getting hungry now...

  • I was really upset because i don't live near any asian food markets, but i looked online and they sell "kim" in walmart! Who knew?

  • Oooh ok, but what kind of rice do Koreans usually eat on a daily basis? Is it still sushi rice?

  • I know this sounds like a dumb question...but what kind of rice do you use?? or if anyone can answer b/c i know koreans use either jasmine or use rose rice...which is better?

  • @janeywaney03 no, short grain rice known as sushi rice, that's what you need.

  • @janeywaney03 no one use jasmine neither rose rice thing. only short grain or medium grain rice.

  • what's the storage life of these kimbaps when kept in the fridge?

  • Maangchi, I'm trying to cook this but I'm confused as to the amount I'm supposed to put in to make this. What is described during the vid. is not the same as what is written on u're website. (for eg, amount of soy sauce for putting in with tuna, or the amount of sugar for making rice sauce etc ) Could u pls verify what the correct amounts are? Thank u.

  • @kaoritubes Plz follow the written recipe on my website .

  • @Maangchi Ok, thanks. I just finished making it! It's the first time in my life that I've had kimbap. Personally, I prefer kimbap over the Japanese makizushi. Thx for the recipe. Btw, could u pls tell me what the name of the song and artist playing in this vid?

  • @kaoritubes It's 'Regret' by New Order. If you like to know about my video music, check out music section in my about page on my website.

  • is there a specific type of keem (sea plant) to use? if so can you tell me the brand or kind?

  • @song235 yes, check out the ingredient photo "laver" on my website. You will have to get keem(sea plant paper) for kimbap making. It's not roasted or salted either. You can ask a sales clerk at a Korean grocery store. "I want to make kimbap, which kim is good?" Then you can choose your favorite one.

  • How can i make my rice sticky?

  • @rainieyangrocks i'm guessing you don't have a rice cooker... try using less water, cutting the usual cooking time by 5-10 minutes, and when it's done, take it off the heat, fluff it with a fork or one of those two-pronged meat forks and let it rest for a while. i've never done it stove-top, but hopefully this helps?

  • very good video, i love your channel!!! lastr week i made kimbab with 2 of my korean friends.

Could you please show me how to make hong o hwoe, or at least give me a link to see pictures because I cant find any at google

  • can you dip with soy sauce? thanks for upload the video i enjoy watching it :)

  • @pencilanderaser992 yes, you can. Happy cooking!

  • can i skip the pickled radish?

  • @hanzimaster You can really use whatever you want. There are many variations for kimbap--for instance, before this video, I'd never seen anyone use avocado before. It's just like sushi rolls where there are several different fillings and combinations you can use.

  • @shojofreshman so its like korean sushi?

  • @Maangchi Can I use beef too? For this and samgak kimbap?

  • @1and2itsMyahBoo sure, why not.

  • when i watch your videos i get hungry.....

  • omg you rock lady!!!!, there aren't many people that make korean food, like this, or make recipies for people to learn, this is awesome!!, so delicious :D, and are the sesame seeds toasted? or just raw?

  • I have sweet mirin in my pantry. Can I used that instead of regular sugar & vinegar? Thank You!

  • What can you replace the tuna with? I don't like tuna.

  • what is pickled radish? does it taste good? :)

  • i think I'm in love with you...

  • @timthedog LOL

  • sigh i want to eaqt thattt soooooooo bad *opens a can of sardine*

  • can you please post a video for spicy tuna kimbap?

  • Oh my gosh...I love you Maangchi. I made this for a picnic, and my friends loved it!! I added some cucumbers slices and used brown rice, and it was soooo yummy. Like addicting...!! I couldn't stop eating them!! D: Ahhhh, Maangchi your food is so yummy..

Be sure to cut it with a wet SHARP thin knife! Or you'll end yup with squashed kimbap..

  • can I omit the avocado? :)

  • @shootingstarboom yes, you can skip avocado.

  • @Maangchi umm i was thinking of making this but i dont have a bamboo mat its there a way to roll it without a bamboo mat ?

  • @shootingstarboom try adding cucumber instead!! yumy!

  • what is kimchi?

  • @NasLovesAlexander korean spicy fermented cabbage

  • whats the song called??? and i love kimbap :D ive made beef kimbap before, i think i should try out both of these next time xD

  • Can you make this at night and put it in the refrigerator to take to work/school the next day?

  • @Cubeclarei I wouldn't do that. Make it early morning before going to work or school. That's what we do. Kimbap is the most delicious right after it is made. You will have to eat it in several hours.

  • can you substitute black pepper with white pepper powder?

  • @MrTimmmeh yes, you can. Of course!

  • Unlike other korean cooking videos on youtube, yours looks so simple to do. It's like anyone can learn from your teachings ! Great;

  • kamsamnida for the recipe.....it was yummy! ^_^

  • Hi! I just want to ask did you make any preparations to you sea weed wrap? or you just used it as is? :)

  • I'm allergic to tuna, so do you think using canned chicken would work too?

  • @CareBears93 I think so.

  • @CareBears93 you can use chicken un can use eggs,or make it vegetarian i just eat kimbab with chicken egg or just witth vegetarian

  • I'm gonna make this saturday! One question: can I add Daan Moo Ji in Japchae? Thanks Maangchi!

  • @ScarletDevil91 I usually don't add danmuji (yellow pickled radish) to my japchae but if you want, go ahead.

  • sorry to ask but what vinegar did you use?

  • @pintikan apple vinegar, but you can use different types of vinegar, too.

  • what kind of rice did you use? can i use long grain rice for this or i should use the short grain one such as the japanese rice because it is more sticky?

  • maangchi come visit my place and teach me how i'd like to see you cook personally.. hahaha ;]

  • if can't finish it can keep inside freezer?

  • whenever i try to cut the kimbap, somehow the knife won't go through properly and it simply cuts down without actually cutting it and the ingredients inside squish out... is it because the rice is too moist or there is something wrong with the seaweed? i used the same as urs.... >.<"

  • @DestinySky16 sharpen your knife, baby! : )

  • @DestinySky16 i'm having the same problem last time and i tried to put some vinegar on the knife..it worked on me and i can cut the kimbap smoothly now:)

    btw thanks to maangchi..you teach me a lot..i'm a korean food mania:D

  • @DestinySky16 sharpen your knife, and run a drop of water on the edge of the blade!

  • I just made this and it was delicious thank you for the recipe :)

  • Can I use sushi nori?

  • @Vercippu yes, nori (Japanese) and kim (Korean) are the same.

  • Your chopping is so efficient ^-^

  • Kimbap is originally a Japanese food "nori-maki (rolled sushi)" which was introduced to Korea during the consolidation period (1910-1945).

The recipe and ingredients are almost the same as nori-maki, but kimbap is seasoned by Korean-style taste.

  • Thx for the recipe^^...It was so delicious.

    best wishes from Germany ^.^

  • @mayachanlein great!

  • Looks yummy!!! But do I need to put sugar in it?

  • hahaha i dont like the word seaweed so i use sea plant hahah u are so cute!! thanks so much for the recipie yum i cant wait to try it

  • hey!=) sorry but i have one question. do we have to use 단무지? hehe i know hiw to write a little korean myself=) 김시합니다 마앙치 언니! (hehe did i spell your name right in 한국어? =)

  • how can i find bamboo roll?

  • @BboyLumut It's sold at an Asian grocery store. I get it at a Korean grocery store.

  • @Maangchi oh okay.. I'll try to search for it again.. it's a bit embarassing when i ask sth they didn't understand.. like "did u sell ddukbokki?" "what?" =.=a.. even though my kor friend said my pronounce is right.. >.<

  • @BboyLumut I posted the photo of bamboo mat in my kitchenware section on my website. You can photocopy it and take it to a store. ; )

  • @BboyLumut You may find it in domestic stores as well.

  • yayy! 오늘 김밥을 만들었어! 너무 맛있어요!!

    고맙습니다, 망치! <33

  • it looks so good D:

i want to make kimbap for my mom , so I watching this ^^ but when my mom makes it , she puts mayonnaise ... where do I put the mayonnaise if I want to put it in?

  • hi, maangchi-ssi...i just love the korean culture..and especially the food..i've been looking for this video and yours is the best..thanks :D

by the way, is there an alternative to avocado?..i mean, i want to make kimbap for my sister..but she doesn't like avocado...is there another ingredient that i can add to it instead of avocado? :D

  • @edenshii yes, how about cucumber? Cut it into long strips and sprinkle a pinch of salt on it. 5 minutes later, dry it with a paper towel and use it kimchi filling.

  • @Maangchi thanks a lot...i'll surely do that...this time, i'll introduce kimbap to my family..thanks for your help...i've been watching your videos and I really love it ;-)

  • @edenshii haha, I said, "kimchi filling" instead of kimbap filling! You understood what I was saying though! cool!

  • @Maangchi yeah, i just did..it's because kimbap was on my mind and just read it through..hahaha..thanks a lot ;-)

  • @edenshii lol

  • Ms. Maangchi, you are so great! I just dont get why the written recipes at your website sometimes describe different measures from the videos. Thank you!

  • @Seolhee yeah, once I upload a video on YouTube, it's impossible to change any words in the video unless I take them down. A few of my recipes posted at the very beginning has wrong measurements. I can't change it at all. All I can do is to post through my written recipes on my website. So if you want to make some of my recipes, you gotta follow my recipes and videos on my website. Thank you!!!

  • If I wanted to bring kimbap to school.. Would I have to make it on the morning of school or the night before for it to still taste yummy?

  • @xxSMiLEx3 in the morning!

  • s.k almost eat food for health, but u guys eat food for taste. this is the biggest difference ^^

  • um.. can i know if the artificial crab meat.. do we need to cook before hand? or we just take it raw? or these artificial crab meat are already cooked?

  • @Liz276 yes, it's already cooked, so you don't need to cook it again. But if you want, reheat it in microwave oven.

  • @Maangchi ok thank you :D i'm gonna try it! er.. when i have the ingredients and time lol..

  • what kind of rice should you use for making kimbap? is it okay to use long grain rice?

  • @allstarmonkeyx short grain rice which is known as "sushi rice".

  • Hhahah...u never finsh what u were going to say in the end..bcoz mouth is full...LOL!

  • do you think it will taste good if i add mayonnaise, maangchi?lol

  • @laurysocheerful I'm not a big fan of mayonnaise but if you want, why not. : )

  • maangchi, i cant see your answer D:

  • can we use lobster instead of artificial crab meat?

  • @laurysocheerful strange! I said, sure lobster is a good idea! : )

  • does it matter what kind of vinegar i use?

  • maangchi, can i use Sucralose for the rice sauce?? because my doctor banned the sugar in my diet

  • @faustronoma yes, you can! : )

  • T___T that looked so good.... god i want some kimbab ...... thank you for the video by the way, i was just wondering what is the sauce you used in the beginning with the rice? =]

  • @fullmetalparty1 the mixture of salt, sugar, and vinegar. Check the recipe on my website. I posted more detailed written recipe and tips there. Thank you!

  • @Maangchi AWESOME thank you i should pay attention to the description more lol sorry =]

  • Hi im trying to make Kimchi kimbap, it looks really delicious. I have a question, do you stir-fry the kimchi before you mix the other seasoning in it?

  • @ilovekangji ok, I will post the recipe someday. Thank you!

  • 김밥 is my favourite snack i've never heard that you can eat it in the bar 김밥 form haha

  • @riyankie02 soy sauce and wasabi!

  • thanks a lot! it's such a great idea! I love Korean food and I want to learn how to make them that's why I subscribed here. Thanks again and more power

  • Thankyou it looks good!! But I'm stil wondering how to store it? Like can i make them today and bring them to school the next day for lunch without getting spoil?

  • @AzinRoxMySokx to eat for lunch, you will have to make it early in the morning. Can you do it? : )

To save time, you can prepare all ingredients and keep them in the refrigerator before going to bed and next morning, make kimbap with fresh rice!

When you take it to your school for your lunch, you will get lots of attention from your classmates!

  • OK why can't i think of that ^_^ ur brilliant! thankyou.. and yes i will get a lot of attention but thats good because i was born to stand out! lol i jk...

oh and one more thing if i bring it to school then do i have to use ice pack or just leave it at room temp? thx agen! :)

  • @AzinRoxMySokx leave it at room temperature.

Rice will get hard at cold temperature so it won't be tasty if you keep it in the refrigerator.

  • Lol Maangchi ! I don't like the word seaweed (: ! Haha :D..

    Thanks for the recipe(:

    It looks soooo good :D!

  • my mouth is watery right now!

  • could we put hot paste to make it spicy?

  • @XxXhyukXxX of course you can! : )

  • OMG THIS IS SO GOOD!

  • replacing avocado to ripe mangoes make kimbab tastes so good =)

  • @holyo good tip! thanks! ; )

  • how does koreans roll the kimbap with the eggs??

  • Thanks! I want make some! xD

  • yehey! Maangchi! thanks for this recipe. I successfully made one yesterday :D I just changed avocados with mangoes because I couldn't find avocado. Thank You Very Much!

  • wow, did mangoes work with this recipe? Cool!

  • yes it did.. it was more like a california maki though :D thanks again!

  • I love your videos Maangchi. I'd love to make kimbap probably next week. I'll check a Korean Grocery Store near my place. Do you think crab sticks are available in a korean grocery store?

  • yes, crab sticks are sold at a Korean grocery store. Good luck with making deliciious kimbap.

  • personally i like kimbob without crab sticks

  • Thk you M. I actually seen a live person like yourself make a Kimbab, Japanese seaweed roll. You made it so easy but I can't find a sheet like yours to roll it. Can I roll it with my hand?

  • You can get it at a Korean grocery store. bamboo mat. Check the kitchenware section on my website. You can use your hands to roll it, but it may not be rolled tightly enough.

  • you can find the bamboo mat not only in the korean (or japanese, since sushi is basically the same thing, only with different filling) store, but in the international section of any larger supermarket as well. In my experience, they even sell it at my local neighbourhood supermarket which isn't even large at all. Check packages with 'sushi bamboo mat' or 'sushi kit' (usually comes with the rice and the sea plant).

  • what is the sauce at 0:37?

  • mmmm :O~~ i can totally make this dish :D thanks for the recipe. <3

  • plus the rolling would be the hardest part

I usually cut the Kim bap not making it so I dont really know but now I learnt it yepeee!!!!!!!!

  • There's a lot of recipe for kimbap with ham. Is that an ingredient usually used in kimbap?
