However, when I look at the ever increasing number of Americans who cannot afford health insurance or whose employers don't offer it, I'm curious as to what other options there are (besides universal health care) which can make sure that people can afford doctors and hospitals.
"Disincentive" is too mild a word. If (President) Obama and Congress finish changing us to full socialized medicine as proposed, as an employer I will immediately drop my health care benefits and tell all my employees to go get the government deal. This will effectively double my profit, since my current costs for healthcare for employees is about equal to my profit now. What a cool deal for entrepreneurs. You go guy!

Here's an example of free market healthcare (us) and universal healthcare (the rest of the developed world).
In order to change the O2 analyzer on a US ventilator, you have to send the thing out and have it ripped apart.
To do the same thing the Servo I (a ventilator Europeans widely use (which incidently can be used on infants, children and adults), you simply remove a casette and change the analyzer.

Some people work 2-3 jobs and 40-120 hours a week and still cannot afford health care for their children and housing costs.

Well some people don't work for money for health insurance or anything like that, but some people actually work way harder than rich people, having like 3 jobs! some people just have a big family to take care of or maybe they get minimum wage or something. Duh. If the employer has any moral sense and actually cares about humans, he or she will work in concert with government programs to make sure workers--and business--stay healthy. She still does her work, she still lifts heavy things, she works two jobs and that does not stop her, she had knee surgery a couple years ago and she has major pain all the time, but is she on SSI? no way, she still works, she doesn't believe in that, we believe if you can work, then work, don't get social security if you are capable of working you slackers. I've talked to people in there 80's that still work that refused retirement and SSI, they probably have the same believe as me and my aunt.

If i ran for president and won, i would have taken away SSI for alot of people, McCain had an idea, but i would not do it for the exact same reason, the government gives away millions of dollars to over a million people in a few months, that is a lot of money given away to about half of the people that really need the money, but others that don't deserve it, like those on SSI just cause they cant read, or have back problems, my aunt has knee problems and its hard for her to life things

free healthcare = less paid physicians...unless we tax the crap out of everyone. when im done with school, i'll be over $160k in debt from med school alone. how are we going to pay that back in a reasonable amount of time? i really want to become a doctor - its been a dream since childhood, but i want the money to cover insurance premiums as well as get out of debt...and just be able to run a good practice. the thing i dread most is the decline of medical education to decrease tuition costs.

However, the point with Universal Health Care is that everyone gets an insurance, which can REALLY save lives, and if your job will after such an implementation be of no use, I suggest you look for another job, since old services that are replaced with better alternatives, are bound to die.

Some tell me where the bold change that Obama is promising is going to come from nothing in his past would indicate he will make any change besides the same old failed liberal polices. On the other hand John McCain pushed MCcain/Feingold, McCain/Kennedy countless other times he has worked with democrats for real change.

Medicare is a single payer system, Obama is not promoting this plan. This is not an accurate assumption on the part of this questioner. private insurance companies charge up to 25 percent for administration fees, MC charges 3-6 percent and is in reality a far more efficient system. Our tax dollars will go to private companies ie: shareholders with both Obama and HRC plan, and there will be no competition because it will be mandatory

You have an excellent question, one which I hope will be addressed by Sen. Obama. However, when I look at the ever increasing number of Americans who cannot afford health insurance or whose employers don't offer it, I'm curious as to what other options there are (besides universal health care) which can make sure that people can afford doctors and hospitals.

"Disincentive" is too mild a word. If (President) Obama and Congress finish changing us to full socialized medicine as proposed, as an employer I will immediately drop my health care benefits and tell all my employees to go get the government deal. This will effectively double my profit, since my current costs for healthcare for employees is about equal to my profit now. What a cool deal for entrepreneurs. You go guy!

Here's an example of free market healthcare (us) and universal healthcare (the rest of the developed world).
In order to change the O2 analyzer on a US ventilator, you have to send the thing out and have it ripped apart.
To do the same thing the Servo I (a ventilator Europeans widely use (which incidently can be used on infants, children and adults), you simply remove a casette and change the analyzer.
Hmmmm. I guess competition isn't always the most efficient way.

The United States is the only rich country who doesn't provide all its citizens with medical aid. And yet the US is the country who spends most money per citizen on medical services.
Maybe it's time for CHANGE, by someone who doesn't take money from lobbyists of the Medical industry. And if caring for people who are not as lucky as I am or the children who have bad parents makes someone a commie, then I say communists > techRepublican.

The US is at the top of the food chain as of now and with the "CHANGE" you propose this will bring our standard of living down. If I wanted to live in Norway I would... Not only that but the US is composed of 300 million people, it is financially practical to provide coverage in Norway and other European countries but not here. It would be devastating and no tax would be enough to cover the cost. The system you propose works well in your country, not here.

Norway uses less per person on health care than the United States. A healthier population also provides more tax income, etc..

Yes you are corret it will remove competition from the market and cause costs to shyrocket taxes will be incresed for it because the gov's revenue will be sharply decreased after he in int interest of 'fairness' increases the capital gains tax to penalize (to the glee of those who don't have to provide for themselves) those of us who have went without things that we wanted but didnt need in order to prepare for our future.

Barack Obama's plan is for people under the age of 18 (0-17 years old, children).
We have child labor laws so children cannot work to pay for it.

If you start to talk about letting children die or killing them off because their parents are unable to get better jobs (and instead have to work many jobs and sometimes 10-15 hours a day, 7 days a week just to keep up with health care costs and their other expenses) then you're touting the same line Hitler did when he called for the genocide of the mentally challenged and others he thought less of.

Some people work 2-3 jobs and 40-120 hours a week and still cannot afford health care for their children and housing costs.
This is not a matter of laziness this is a matter of people who cannot get better jobs and are working themselves to death so their children can have a chance at a better life and they're failing.

Duh. If the employer has any moral sense and actually cares about humans, he or she will work in concert with government programs to make sure workers--and business--stay healthy. If incentives are needed to be decent, the country will continue its downward slide into chaos, with millions of uninsured sick people and hundreds of millions in debt to healthcare and big pharma.

So, you suggest that everyone should be forced to pay for healthcare. Doctors, with more than a decade of education, should be forced to accept a predetermined payment from the sloth-like government. Governments do not run as efficiently as an uninhibited free markets. From an economic standpoint,such a plan would be economic suicide

This explains why industry prices have not arrived at equilibrium. The so-called socialized healthcare plan is truly welfare economics. When the government takes on large scale public projects, they will levy new taxes in turn. This is economics 101. Government provided "free" healthcare is not the answer...

Of course it will discourage employers from providing health care coverage for their employees. That's the point: to reduce the cost of doing business! And like Medicare the cost can be borne with payroll taxes spread amongst everyone. A single payer plan is simply Medicare for all, which was its original intent when Harry Truman first promoted the idea.
