that's how those lifeboats are designed, never seen one where people face forward

It does make sense.

The impact on the water can be quite violent and when facing backwards you are forced into the seat meaning that your entire back helps to take up the force instead of just the limited part covered by the seatbelt which would be the case if you were facing forward.

i noticed that the boat is not really water tight because there's a water leakage when the boat hits on the water...
