I did initially feel sorry for Shawcross, obviously not as much as I did for Ramsey, but it was a 50/50 challenge, they both went for the ball and Shawcross went in the harder of the two, but you can see he is shook up by it. @jops2842 I recentley met the referee of this match at a referees meeting and he admitted that he only sent Shawcross off when he saw Ramsey's leg. He said that it was for Shawcross's own safety because if the red card was not given, then it was likely that other Arsenal players would have targeted Shawcross for the rest of the match for what he did to Ramsey. I think the reactions of Campbell and Fabregas tells it all.
No he didn't go into the tackle saying 'i'm gonna break this guys leg' but it's a product of the "arsenal don't like it up 'em" attittude. Managers tell their players to get stuck into arsenal and this is the result when the players take it too far. We've had 3 in the last few years. It's not just a coincidence.

Refs occasionally punish players for attempting malicious tackles that miss. Not enough though. I don't agree with referees punishing the result of a tackle and not the actual action. If a player makes a clean hit in American football and the player receives a concussion afterwards, many times the player who made the "clean" hit is fined. I watched the video over and over, and in my humble opinion it was Ramsey's fault. Shawcross was closer to the ball, had control of the ball(somewhat), and it was a 50/50 if not a 60/40 in favor of Shawcross. You don't go in like Ramsey did against a stronger player than yourself. Shawcross is a defender also, isn't he? He naturally possesses more ball winning ability than Ramsey. If you are a finesse player going in for a 50/50 against a grown man with ball winning ability, be cautious.

I did initially feel sorry for Shawcross, obviously not as much as I did for Ramsey, but it was a 50/50 challenge, they both went for the ball and Shawcross went in the harder of the two, but you can see he is shook up by it. Now though he seems to go in to challenges like this all the time when you thought he would've learnt his lesson
I hate the reaction of the Arsenal players, yes it was a bad challenge but it doesn't mean he meant to do it. The players pushing Shawcross away is awful!

@jops2842 I recentley met the referee of this match at a referees meeting and he admitted that he only sent Shawcross off when he saw Ramsey's leg. He said that it was for Shawcross's own safety because if the red card was not given, then it was likely that other Arsenal players would have targeted Shawcross for the rest of the match for what he did to Ramsey. I think the reactions of Campbell and Fabregas tells it all.

Refs occasionally punish players for attempting malicious tackles that miss. Not enough though. I don't agree with referees punishing the result of a tackle and not the actual action. If a player makes a clean hit in American football and the player receives a concussion afterwards, many times the player who made the "clean" hit is fined. It's a double standard, hypocritical, antisemitic ran FIFA. That's the problem.

I watched the video over and over, and in my humble opinion it was Ramsey's fault. Shawcross was closer to the ball, had control of the ball(somewhat), and it was a 50/50 if not a 60/40 in favor of Shawcross. You don't go in like Ramsey did against a stronger player than yourself. Shawcross is a defender also, isn't he? He naturally possesses more ball winning ability than Ramsey. If you are a finesse player going in for a 50/50 against a grown man with ball winning ability, be cautious.

I'm an Arsenal fan and I respect Shawcross and despise Bendtner. Yes it was a bad challenge but he certainly didn't mean it. At 0.43, he goes to check to see whether Ramsey is alright and Bendtner just pushes him away. Shawcross leaves the field crying. Shawcross is forgiven but Bendtner has no sportsmanship.
