My mother had an emotionally wreck of a driving instructor who used to unburden all his marital problems to her and end up sobbing inconsolably. She never did take her test(after falling and breaking both arms a week before it was due).
I recently was assigned an interview with Mike Leigh for a New York magazine. I kept reading and hearing that he was very difficult in a Q&A situation. He turned out to be nothing of the sort. He is merely someone who wants to make sure you understand precisely what he is saying to you. Much prefer that to the fuzzy-brains I usually interview. It was lovely, and so is "Happy-Go-Lucky". And thanks for this little video, GFT!
You lucky person! I would love to meet Mike Leigh, his methods of film making by creating character-biographies using unscripted improvisation based rehearsals must be fascinating to watch and far more rewarding for the actors who are allowed to develop their character from the roots up. Mike Leigh seems like a really genuine person who probably takes time to get to know well and doesn't suffer fools gladly...and why should he? Which 'fuzzy brains' have you interviewed then? (I'd love to know)
Well you must have caught him on a very good day cause he was absolutely monstrous in this carefully selectively edited Q&A, condescending and belittling almost all of the audience who dared ask a question and shooting down people asking even the most harmless of questions. Abhorrent vile little man, ugly to the core inside and out. Talk about chips on your shoulder! Oh and Ken Loach is better, btw. Let's see Leigh come up with a Kes.
