I don't understand why so many people on here are criticizing Roddick for "pushing." Granted i've only seen these highlights (not the whole match), but it seems like Soderling was hitting way to hard and heavy for Roddick to do much. I think Roddick did well moving the ball around and using Soderling's pace, but Robin had all the answers here. They are both great players, Soderling was just better this time.

@MeltedButterCorp yeah, and I've tried it before and it is no wonder soderling hits so hard. Pure power racket, nothing quite so extreme on the market. My shots speed almost doubled, but my accuracy decreased as well =/ gotta hand it to him to have as much control as he has.

Well obviously Roddick is NOT fast enough because the top players consistently exploit his weak backhand and he's not fast enough to return to the center of the court. Roddick is very slow we obviously will agree to disagree. The top five are special they have the penetrating groundstrokes that Roddick lacks. Roddick's backhand is a real weakness and Soderling exploited it over and over again and again.

Roddick has been in the top 10 rankings since what 2002? He's dropped out for about 10 weeks in all that time. That says something doesn't it?

Look at other huge servers, Karlovic, Isner. They really don't have the same success as Roddick has do they?

Sure his topspin is a bit overboard but there is no doubt he can still pull the trigger (like against Nadal last year)

If Roddick wants to have any chance of winning any more Grand Slams, he needs to take more risks and go back to the way he played when he was younger. HIT THE CRAP OUT OF THE BALL! These days, he plays way too safe, and in doing so, puts himself in a defensive position from the start of the point. He is, and always has been, a much better attacker than a defender, and certainly isn't able to turn defence into offence the way Djokovic, Federer and Nadal can. He's got the firepower, USE IT!

I´m from sweden... And I like both of them...! (Robin isn't complaining in the clip, he just tells the umpire that he would be happy to accept the challenge, becuase he was 100 % certain, that the ball was out of play.)

The problem for Roddick is he isn't a great athlete. I think Roddick has talent but he doesn't have a lot of natural talent. Roddick was just waiting for Soderling to make errors and he's got to realize against top players he cannot wait he has to force the action. Roddick just wasn't aggressive enough in this match. I remember Roddick beat Nadal in Miami last year in the semifinals he was very aggressive and that is the kind of way he needs to play.

I don't think I was the only one thinking Soderling was a fluke victor over Nadal at Roland Garros. But since then, he's really proven himself. Right now, I reckon Soderling would have a better shot at beating either Nadal or Federer in a match than Djokovic and Murray.

Soderling just broke down Roddick's backhand and this is the strategy the top players consistently use against him. Robin pushed Roddick wide to the backhand to get a weak reply and he just opened up the court.

I mean it's good for drawing errors from the lesser players but the elite players can consistently pound the ball or just expect it all the time so they can aim for that side and know what's coming!

I think the reason Roddick is slicing the ball is because Soderling is a tall man he is six foot 4. One strategy players use against tall players is keeping the ball low because they think it is harder for the tall player to hit the ball. However, Robin bends his knees very well and he is able to generate a lot of power. Roddick needs to realize against other top 10 players he needs to be more offensive and less defensive. Soderling just overpowered Roddick today.

I want to see Roddick flatten out that forehand, to make it an offensive weapon like he did back in 2003 when he won the US Open. It has to much loop and roll and bounces up high and sits there for people like Soderling who are ball crushers. So yeah flatten our that forehand Roddick.
