i dont like soderling s play... its just that he rellies to much in his power, i like gonzalez more, hes more powerful yet thinks a little more while playing
I don't understand why so many people on here are criticizing Roddick for "pushing." Granted i've only seen these highlights (not the whole match), but it seems like Soderling was hitting way to hard and heavy for Roddick to do much. I think Roddick did well moving the ball around and using Soderling's pace, but Robin had all the answers here. They are both great players, Soderling was just better this time.
roddick = best smasher in history of the sport... I never see him miss a smash.. and he kills it even from the baseline--- federer allways just puts it back into play
@MrKerosene17 yeeeeahh... accept if it goes into his backhand overhead zone.... then u might see a miss like the set point in the second set against fed - wimbly final 09 ;)
@MeltedButterCorp yeah, and I've tried it before and it is no wonder soderling hits so hard. Pure power racket, nothing quite so extreme on the market. My shots speed almost doubled, but my accuracy decreased as well =/ gotta hand it to him to have as much control as he has.
@Th3BlackReaper you can say that back in 2003 or 2004 , but now whenever he wants to go to the net he goes
nervious hence he becomes easy to get passed . You can see the properties you said in mardy fish or Harrison or Andy in 2003 but as for now he has one of the weakest approach shots in tennis .
Well obviously Roddick is NOT fast enough because the top players consistently exploit his weak backhand and he's not fast enough to return to the center of the court. Roddick is very slow we obviously will agree to disagree. The top five are special they have the penetrating groundstrokes that Roddick lacks. Roddick's backhand is a real weakness and Soderling exploited it over and over again and again.
@Th3BlackReaper I disagree Roddick is not a good athlete he is just a player with a big serve. Roddick is not a natural athlete like Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal he is extremely slow.
@Th3BlackReaper Roddick is a good tennis player but he is NOT as athletic as Federer, Nadal, Murray or Djokovic. Roddick just is not very quick. The top men are much faster than Roddick he is not a natural athlete.
If Roddick wants to have any chance of winning any more Grand Slams, he needs to take more risks and go back to the way he played when he was younger. HIT THE CRAP OUT OF THE BALL! These days, he plays way too safe, and in doing so, puts himself in a defensive position from the start of the point. He is, and always has been, a much better attacker than a defender, and certainly isn't able to turn defence into offence the way Djokovic, Federer and Nadal can. He's got the firepower, USE IT!
Roddick is my favorite player but he should be more aggressive on the forehand like before...3:10 was the best backhand made by Roddick and he should go more of those!
Roddick may be my favorite player but he should still become more aggressive on the forehand...but still the backhand at 3:11 was beautiful...he should hit more of those!
roddick is becoming a pusher, seriously!! I don´t have anything bad against pushers but for some reason i think roddick is so no talent, i don´t see anything in his game that actually make him a top 10 player!!
I´m from sweden... And I like both of them...! (Robin isn't complaining in the clip, he just tells the umpire that he would be happy to accept the challenge, becuase he was 100 % certain, that the ball was out of play.)
The problem for Roddick is he isn't a great athlete. I think Roddick has talent but he doesn't have a lot of natural talent. Roddick was just waiting for Soderling to make errors and he's got to realize against top players he cannot wait he has to force the action. Roddick just wasn't aggressive enough in this match. I remember Roddick beat Nadal in Miami last year in the semifinals he was very aggressive and that is the kind of way he needs to play.
OMG Roddick is so passive. When's he gonna learn that pushing won't work against an in-form power player like Robin Soderling?? Not that I'm complaining, the guy's a jerk.
I don't think I was the only one thinking Soderling was a fluke victor over Nadal at Roland Garros. But since then, he's really proven himself. Right now, I reckon Soderling would have a better shot at beating either Nadal or Federer in a match than Djokovic and Murray.
Roddick would most definately win a slam or have won another if he had kept his forehand more offensive!! this defensive Bullshit is ridiculous, soderling is a worse version of roddick when he was younger, and when roddick won his slam federer was at a dangerous time in his career... soderling played well, but roddick way to pushy, im a big roddick fan, stayed up to watch that awful performance in england...
I just have to say "sh.." This is the first Andy defeat of the year in a final, but this has been as usual in Andy´s career that it´s like an unpleasant feeling
He´s a much better than Soderling in every way possible,
Soderling just broke down Roddick's backhand and this is the strategy the top players consistently use against him. Robin pushed Roddick wide to the backhand to get a weak reply and he just opened up the court.
@gwfactions2 I'd rather see him work on his useless backhand to actually be able to penetrate the court rather than slice it all the time. I mean it's good for drawing errors from the lesser players but the elite players can consistently pound the ball or just expect it all the time so they can aim for that side and know what's coming!
@JordanJamesx Mmm I don't think so, even though it is a good strategy, because Roddick always slices the ball regardless so I don't think it's a special strategy per se. Frankly I don't know if he does it because it's been effective at keeping him around the top 10, or if it's because his backhand is useless and he knows it =\
I think the reason Roddick is slicing the ball is because Soderling is a tall man he is six foot 4. One strategy players use against tall players is keeping the ball low because they think it is harder for the tall player to hit the ball. However, Robin bends his knees very well and he is able to generate a lot of power. Roddick needs to realize against other top 10 players he needs to be more offensive and less defensive. Soderling just overpowered Roddick today.
plus how the fuck has roddick won a slam his serve is amazing after that there is nothing his forehand is arguably worse than murrays forehand and that is saying something
I want to see Roddick flatten out that forehand, to make it an offensive weapon like he did back in 2003 when he won the US Open. It has to much loop and roll and bounces up high and sits there for people like Soderling who are ball crushers. So yeah flatten our that forehand Roddick. By the way I am a huge Roddick fan, but congratulations Soderling.
@gwfactions2 i see a lot of ppl say that but they forget he didnt win the us open in 2003 cus he had such an amazing flat forehand then, he won it cus it was exactly in the gap between sampras/agassi etc gone and federer/nadal etc not arrived yet. he could have the flattest forehand in the world now and he still wouldnt win one slam, i would bet my own family on that i swear.
Well Done Robin for blasting the American brat Andy Roddick! Roddick may be ranked in the top 10 BUT he is definitely NOT one of the elite players anymore his time has passed! Robin has more powerful groundstrokes, and he just moved Roddick around the court like a rag doll! Roddick's arrogance and bad attitude is just disgusting!
@JordanjamesX hey jerk why dont u relax with anti american prejudice comment and mischaractization of Andy Roddick - i am American and i love Andy Roddick so go to HELL !!!!

@JordanjamesX The top players exploit 99% of all player's weak backhands.
Roddick has been in the top 10 rankings since what 2002? He's dropped out for about 10 weeks in all that time. That says something doesn't it?
Look at other huge servers, Karlovic, Isner. They really don't have the same success as Roddick has do they?
Sure his topspin is a bit overboard but there is no doubt he can still pull the trigger (like against Nadal last year)
