Carrying capacities and overall needs (given the land topology and so forth) are totally different. It wouldn't make economic sense for the Delhi M to be designed the way the Tokyo line is, and let's face it they really shouldn't be pissing away money on needless extravagance when there are a lot more uses for it.

the present Delhi Metro rolling stock is Korean not German. An international tender was declared in the beginning and Hyundai Rotem won the tender.

The next phase will use Bombardier rolling stock, assembled in India, if I remember correctly.

The Kolkata metro racks on the other hand are of Japanese origin, but are from the 70's vintage.

i have been using metro and bus both in kolkata for last 7-8 years(4 for college and previously for school) i think this is the least time consuming transportation system,with little suffering in pick hours..most of all,no fleecing of auto drivers,the fare is all fixed and does not fluctuate like bus

like kolkata and delhi, other metros should get it as soon as possible

You are correct, Delhi's metro has new trains. I was just commenting on the sound the brakes made and how they sounded similar to the trains here in Melbourne, not on the age of the trains. Still, you can't deny that Melbourne's trains are way WAY past their prime and that the train network is in need of a MAJOR overhaul. Hmmm, maybe sacking Connex would be a good first step.
