Youtube re-converts it at 1280x720, and an the end of the day a 1920x1080 res video isnt really a 1080p when youtube shows 1280x720 (720p) res video is it?
dude I am no beginner, I build pc's for people, full on stuff core i7 920's at 3.5ghz and gtx295 rigs. I downloaded a video from youtube that i uploaded in 720p and whola. 480x272...
You just cant accept the fact that the HD Youtube res is 1280x720 can you?
So you're saying that uploading a 720p video into youtube, they then downscale it to 480x272 and then upscale it to 1280x720 so people think its HD???
Do you know how dumb that sounds?
Upscaling a video to 720p or having a 720p video would use the same amount of lines (1280x720) at the same bitrate, only the upscaled version would look degraded quality, easly noticeable.
In other words you're saying that Youtube rather use an upscale from a very low res video into HD that uses the same amount of lines and the same bitrate to display a fake 1280x720 video instead of displaying a real 1280x720 res video that would use the same amount of lines and bitrate?
kida, the real player is 852x450 or something like that, 720p is way bigger, but the youtube servers re-encode your video from 720p to something smaller.

dude, it dose. youtube isn't 1280x720, it's just the recommended upload size.

Ok, to make it easier with your calculation, download an HD video from youtube and then check the res, and you'll have your answer.

Actually do mind, because now I know what format you're downloading.
You're downloading the standard MP4 format (480x270).
Copy the HD video link from youtube and got to the website bellow:
keepvid . com
or search KEEPVID on google and click on the 1st results link.
Paste the youtube link onto the URL bar and then download the MP4 HD of the video, and then check the res.
PS: building PC's doesnt mean you know about SW use.
