  • @dewey2442 Haha my husband and I were just saying that he was better than Elvis (no offense to the man).

  • 3 YouTubers probably got snubbed by Mary Lou. LOVE this song--thanks for posting. One of my favorite RN songs.

  • See this is what I call music! All that Lady Gaga and all that, that is just too much sometimes, so then I listen to something like this, because this is from my time!

  • toes, heart, head and probably everything else that could get me arrested in public just dancing to this. Fab song!

  • i love this song:)

  • Absolutely perfect - definitely the best possible version/cover of this Gene Pitney’s song of all others. It belongs to my 10 best songs of all of the time...

  • If ever racism served a useful purpose, it was in helping to make this song a hit. It was originally the flip side of Traveling Man. But they wouldnt play that in the south at the time because he referred to liasons with Polynesian and Eskimo women (race-mixing).

So this side became a hit there first and spread north.

  • If some of you people haven't heard it, Ricky (Rick) does a great version of "Dream Lover" . . . check it out !

  • Written by Gene Pitney . . . who also does a fine version

  • @MrMJ02 I think that as well, Freddie sang this exceedingly well. The original is fabulous too, though.

  • Ah, a few years ago, i was with some family on a trip to Norway, and we were sitting at this lake, said to be the biggest in the country, and it was night, and we had a fire going, and we were just sitting there, gazing at the stars, while a guy was playing guitar, we were singing, some were humming. Great times.

  • one of the best records ever made i listen to this a lot and its good for wooing your lady friend dissenters piss off and get a life you are brain dead

  • I subbed you

  • Sub me

  • @steverenko um, he's doing nothing this year. he died many years ago, at much too young an age.

  • Excellente chanson. Merci. Francois.

  • This is awesome, but I love the Statler Bros. version. And Creedence did a fantastic version as well :D

  • Merci.

  • James Burton is the man.

  • Noone sings like this anymore... WHY?!?!

  • @eerr5t2

I do, but nobody wants to listen. :D

  • @werewurst I listend it..höhö

  • @eerr5t2 Because when they do, they're ignored, and passed over. Sometimes laughed off stage, no matter how good they sound. That's why. Trust me, I'm speaking from experience.

  • Four dislikes? Who ARE these people?

  • @cowboyjoeify i think they do it to balence the likes out lol

  • @eerr5t2 Unfortunately because a major change in people's emotions, psyche's and outlooks have evolved over the past 50 years. It is all so jaded and cynical now. Sorry to be so blunt and pessimistic, but that's what I personally see. And I truly feel sorry for our kids today that couldn't expeirnece a more positive era(not perfect, but much more positivist in outlook than now.)

  • unbelievable guitar player !!!!!!!!! the BEST

  • @Truemiccontroller Absolutely agree, his name is James Burton, born 1939, Louisiana, USA. He was a mentor for the most guitarrists from 60-ties - Keith Richards - Rolling Stones, George Harrison - The Beatles etc.

  • I never really liked Rick but used to listen to his records to hear James work his magic with the aid of (before the era of slinkies) a a high banjo string. Well, that was what we heard anyway. Wonder what he played this on? Sounds like a Tele, dunnit? Hmm...?

  • Ricky your still the greatest Hee Haw.

  • Great song, great vocal and fantastic lead guitar! James Burton is a Guitar God!

  • This brings back some memories for me, it's great to hear this again, great song indeed !

  • Great song!

  • Prom Night 2 Hello Mary Lou...LOL

  • gosh why is he born sooo early?! HE's SMOKING HOTT AND AN AWESOME SINGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A great performance by a great artist

  • This was when Rock and Roll could be somewhat country or whatever the hell it want. Flip side is Travellin Man , my fav song by Ricky.. Mary-lou was written by the multi-talented and too often overlooked Gene Pitney.

  • this seems like country more than rock and roll

  • saw ricky at the hawain gardens awhile ago..almost an hour late..glad to have seen him..R.I.P...u can only b responsible for ur self

  • Sometimes I wish I was still young. Then, other times I realized that I was there when all this went down. Original rock n roll - long may it live!

  • this is when rock an roll was ROCK N ROLL.

  • Right on. The MASTER RECORDING. I don't care what they say, he''ll always be Ricky to me. MIss ya kiddo. Sincerely, Sgt. Ronald J. Campbell. U.S. Army, Ret.

  • Consider the fact that this was recorded live. Now consider that it's absolutely flawless. Early rockers really had something going on.

  • I Love Ricky Nelson's Music i raised on it

  • Love this by Ricky

  • Oh such a great oldie.

  • un rock simpatico

  • awesome

  • ii love him!:)

    he's soo cute.

  • Shreveport's own James Burton on the guitar is the man!

  • @briant420 So delicious the melody and rockabilly of his solo. He flat invents the tele sound right here.

  • written by the late great Gene Pitney!

  • I get so exited every time this song comes on my oldies station!

  • A true rocker, this one. Love the percussion!-Mark

  • Ricky at his best... AND, James Burton was just 17 years old when he first did this guitar run at 1:06 on this version. Check it out. The best lead guitar ever... said Ricky, Elvis, and Roy Orbison.

  • @kidz711 DIDNT THEY PLAY THIS FOR MARY LOU RETTON AT THE OLYMPICS IN THE 1970S?

  • @sutonchef YES... You are right on. Few people know that Ozzie brought James Burton out from Louisiana at 17. Since he was underage, Ozzie & Harriet became his legal guardian and he actually lived with them (the Nelsons) for a couple of years.

  • @sutonchef I DONT KNOW BUT THEY SURE SHOULD HAVE! WHAT A GAL!

  • @kidz711 : Agreed. One of my favorite all-time guitar solos!

  • @kidz711 - And also said by me. Anyone who has ever played a guitar would say so too. No wonder Elvis stole James away from Ricky.

  • @kidz711 I came to listen because of Lou Reed's recommendation of this song in Rolling Stone (Oct. 27, 2011 issue): "It's the James Burton guitar solo. [Guitarist] Robert Quine once made me a tape of all of the Burton solos from Ricky Nelson's records. Burton had this great way of sliding into each one. When he played with Elvis Presley, it got buried in the big band, the gospel choir and the 14 banana-and-bacon sandwiches."
