  • Well done! It's OK to grumble the words. That's what we all do. I love seeing younger folks pickin' up on Papa John. He was the greatest.

  • very nice. Its hard to lossen up with the camera on. drink about 5 shots of whiskey and do it. You will notice a lot of times we are just camera shy

  • Good Job! I just started to learn how to play...and this is a LOT harder then it looks!

  • you have courage

  • i love this song and the way you play it.... do you happen to have a reference for the tab?

  • I am just getting into playing delta stuff (or trying anyway haha)and me thinks that was cool...smug look my arse - looked more like u was having fun to me,crack on girl!

  • this is my favorite song by MJH,or maybe shortning bread!

  • I very big dislike for having that smug look on your face : )

  • @mindgame87

    i think it's a bashful look!

  • ***** VERY COOL *****

  • fine.

  • Not bad for a girl.

  • wow you straight up rocked that piece.

    MJH would be proud.

Keep doing your part to keep the blues alive, pretty lady.

  • Nicely done! I just posted this song my self and was looking around for other people's versions. It sounds to me like you made it your own. I appreciate that much more than something that sounds like an attempt to copy a MJH version (I have heard 4 different MJH versions and they are all VERY different from one another.) Keep on playing! It sounds great!

  • great pickin' !!! cheers!!

  • Yes , fantastic

Did you work out that on your own or do you have the tabs somewhere??

Great videos , and txs once again

    William

  • why r u laughing!

  • What? No bawdy lyrics?

    Nice job pickin'

  • Haha, nope - unfortunately it's too low for me to sing! :)

  • Then sing it high! That's what I do. I can't sing as low as MJH either.

  • i love mississippi...;-)

  • Fantastic - Well done- I am trying to play the same song- Not as good as you though- Thanks for posting. 5 stars -Have Fun in the Sun.

  • awesome!

  • Very sweet. Keep up the good work! I play it way too fast -lol. Cheers!

  • Very nice. Keep up the good work. I flatpick and thats lots of fun too. I have plans on learning some fingerstyle guitar when I'm a better flatpicker. Do you listen to doc watson? he is a great fingerstylist and flatpicker. he plays a song called "did you hear john hurt" that is how I heard of john hurt and y I listened 2 u. Thanx, Happy Trails

  • Thank you! He's really fun to play, when I have a spare moment I'll do a few more. :)

  • I do...lol. ;)

  • That is really cool, that is really good! I am learning more blues stuff right now, and lovin it! Keep posting!

  • very nice!

  • Very nice version. If you're interested, there is an instructional DVD by John Sebastian and Happy Traum about the guitar style of MJH that is both insightful and entertaining. What's really cool are the stories about what a sweet guy MJH was. Keep it up. Sounds great!

  • C'est charmant de voir une jolie fille jouer ce genre de morceau.Bravo

  • Merci! :)

  • @juyos02 Oui , la fille est jolie , rien a dire mais ce n´est pas une raison pour aimer la musique qu´elle fait.

  • Congratulations, very good version...

nice to see young people playing this music..

  • great flow!!!!!!!!!! good job

  • Good job. You're pretty.

  • Wow. It was if my 1928 recordings of John Hurt were on YouTube. Fantastic.

  • Yeah i love this song.i'm gonna learbn it too do you find any tab??

  • I learned by ear, but I bet there's something somewhere on-line! Try google.

  • yeah i tryed that i've learnt some of it before but you know its nice knowing you got it exactly right.Your beautiful by the way!

  • very nice!

  • sweety =$!!!!!

  • you're really good ptunya!

I've been playing candyman myself fingering it a couple different ways but I just recently figured out it's in open A tuning. Try it out. It's a real thrill after playing it in standard tuning.

  • I love you.

  • Nice. I don't study this stuff, but it sounds like you've listened to the 1928 release as well as the more recent recordings. My favorite is on the "Today" album. If you keep this song with you, through the years you will find that your version will grow deeper and richer just as you will and just as John did.

  • Thank you! I pulled the parts I like from two different versions, one was on a blues compilation my husband brought home from the library one day (can't remember what it was called) and the other was from the MJH D.C. Blues disc set. Both very cool. :)

  • Really nice, I must say, I'm learning the finger-pickin blues, and I know just how difficult that tune is to play- and you handled that bit up the neck like a pro!

    Well done girl!

    Keep up the good work!

  • That's one of his harder tunes to play. Nice job!

  • Damn, you've got it goin on. Really well played. BTW that lip bite at 0:19 is fricken hot.

  • sweet!

  • what an effin cool girl

  • :)Nice..

  • Really nice version, thanks for sharing.

  • I hate to see women play guitar better than me!

    Thumbs up.

  • that's cool.

  • wow, thats crazy hot!!

  • you did a great job I am doing a paper on Mississippi John Hurt.. great job!!

  • That is awesome!

  • Sing it!

Still...very nice, I hope you'll discover more of that wonderful music.

For me, finding those records are still beautiful memories.

  • What a nice surprise! MJH:s Candyman, very nice girl, very nice playing. You reminded me about what Stefan Grossman wrote: MJH had tenderness that could penetrate walls.

  • Hey, great job! John Hurt would be proud =)

  • Yeah that really good!! Man..FUCK what's popular..I say that 'cause when your an old lady, you could STILL be playin' the guitar and WAY more improved and

able to BLOW MINDS with it..while all the MATERIAL GIRL wanna-be's'll all be wishin' that they LOOKED better..which after their feeble (plastic) attemps..they sure as fuck WON'T, but you and me and people who only feed what REAL..we can't fail!! PEAcE.

  • Took me the better part of a lifetime to learn the Candyman. Congratulations. Maybe I should have started with something easier. Be nice to hear you sing the Candyman.

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • Sweet! I've been trying to figure that song out for years! Thanks.

  • perfect! Thank you!

  • bravina

  • nice job, love it..

  • Beautiful in every way... How 'bout some John Henry? ;) Led Zeppelin wrote "Going to California" as an ode to Joni Mitchell, inspired by her beauty and musicianship. May someone write their own ode to you someday... Cheers!

  • Great playing. Your right hand is almost on the fretboard which is not a great idea regarding sustain and fingermovements, but your playing sounded great nonetheless

  • Loved it. One of my faves. Really well done....and gorgeous too!

  • Love it...thanks.

  • Wow!!! You have totally impressed me, that was really well played. Did that tune myself at a jam night recently, audience loved it, check it out on my tube, would love to hear what you think!! Regards Colmonde!!

  • Love your candy. Good picking.

  • Good job

  • yes yes yes =], this is wonderful

  • You guys are too funny. :P

    Glad you like it!

  • Well it's 8h30 am, I'm at work (nothing to do yet, I reassure you, good working people) and you put a smile on my face... What else to ask? Thanks!

  • Great playing. You should start singing it..

  • That was great! the pervy comments from blokes on here always make me cringe. Just listen to the music for god's sake men!

  • WOW!!! How pervy lol, shes a pretty lady and i was just being silly. nothing perverted about it. Anyway, great playing. :O)

  • oops, i see a wedding ring, sorry! lol!!

  • OMG!!, i'm in love !! marry me ;)

  • You deserve a medal for doing this , really good try I hope you post again,I have been trying to copy Sosauto playing this but I am struggling, you are doing great well done

  • He does a great version, I love his style! Let me know when you post it so I can check it out. :)

  • Great job! Keep playing. I wish more chicks played like that. Fingerstyle is unique and sometimes hard to play. Keep it up. I like your style.

  • Awesome

  • Wow. Great job!

  • nice effort of a classic blues! hope 2 heard more regards bluespower..

  • Don't take this as a come on, but you are a dream woman. Any woman who posts videos of herself playing Mississippi John Hurt should be any sane person's dream woman.

  • yes, I LOVE you, just kidding ;) but there should be more great women like you

  • Its a pleasure to see and hear what a woman's touch can achieve. My advice would be to just to continue to play your own way... there's no right way... I mean if it sounds right it is right!

  • Great job! We have similar taste in guitar tunes.

  • Keep at it ptunya, john hurts my favorite old bluesman sounds deceptively easy but difficult to master,i will try post let the mermaids flirt tune.based on waiting for a train.all the best bye now.

  • I bet if you had a candy stick 9" long you could feel it in the music...

  • Guess I just gotta do the best I can for now then...lol

  • Very nice rendition of a very difficult piece. The picking sounds almost too gentle in places. I thump at the bass strings mercilessly! I have not seen anyone play with the right hand so far up the body, covering the soundhole. I guess if it works for you, fine. But I would try to come back a little.

  • Thank you for the suggestion - I'll definately give that a try! I've never had lessons, so comments on technique are always welcome.

  • For me, Stefan Grossman is the main man for Country Blues instruction. See his instruction books etc. MJH played with one or two r-h fingers on the soundboard. This gives a firm foundation and you can get more attack with the thumb. Can then get neighbouring strings to resonate too! But, as I said, enjoyed your playing.

  • Very nice tune. Let your feelings guide you trough the song. Hurt your strings more in some moments. But anyway I love it.

  • Everybody love that one, please, make new videos.Thanks.

  • so lovely

  • That was great! I'm a female finger picker too and I love MSJ and Etta Baker too. Please post more!

  • Thank you - you should upload some videos, I wanna hear! :)

  • P.S.: I stopped playing for 15 years, but over the last 2 I've been going back to it in a serious way. I'm even taking lessons. it's never too late.

  • I brace my finger there, too. It takes practice to loosen up. With practice, comes confidence. MrEd, liked your comment, too; I agree.

  • dmck01 - Thanks for the constructive critisism, I appreciate it! I finger pick with my pinky resting on the body of the guitar which gets kinda crampy after a while. I've been too lazy for the past 13 years to learn the right way, but maybe it's time. LOL

MrEd - Thanks for supporting us gals! :)

  • Very nice. You have tackled John's "tour de force" and you are doing an admirable job of it. Perhaps it is "politically incorrect" to say but rarely have I seen female fingerpickers and never have I seen one play "Candy Man". I will be watching for more videos of you! Thanks for this one!

  • nice, It looks like you need to relax your right hand. Keep goin' and post more
