Difficult subject. It would have been very difficult to find men that volountered to that brutal hell the war in Chechnya was.So conscripts neccesary. If treated well during service and when returning home from service a lot of problems might have been solved. I have talked to veterans and its personal how affected, some are alright but some still as10 years has passed has not got a life that is okay, So this is still ongoing story. Interesting to interview a veteran today to hear what they say.

Russians use large numbers of conscripts. That is a fact. Look back to the Dagestan massacre where 6 conscripts were killed by Chechen rebels. Those poor russian kids looked liked they were straight out of high school.

Good answer! I intend to learn a bit in the futre - I think Russia has a great future ahead of it.. Certainly it has many problems but it has ALOT more strength than other European nations, resources, land, its economy has prospered, it brings its criminals to justice & looks after its own people. As long as Russia does not allow mass immigration its status as a future Super Power is certain. Whereas Western Europe and the USA will be Muslim and non-White in future, Russia will still be strong!

Conscription itself is not the problem. Some of the best militaries use conscription(South Korea, Israel, etc) and still have decent soldiers. The trick is to fund the army well, and motivate your military by making service as decent as posible. If soldiers dont fear service, or better yet volunteer, the army will perform better. The russians have to fund the army better, stop hazing, and take better care of their troops. If they did, they would have one of the best armies on the planet.
