i don't think they sound a lot like the shins they 're MORE folk based then the shins !!! i like em both!!! but i think those are two total different feelings of music
I am so happy to have found out who these guys are. I heard them on the KFOG San Fransisco "sideshow" along with the Decemberists! I love new music with an old familiarity.
Who gives a monkeys about who they are like! What I've heard is pretty good, they are enjoying themselves making good music! Sounds like some people want to make themselves feel better by having an opinion they think others would want to listen to... blah, blah, blah!!!
The Shins? Fruit Bats are more country-sounding. I hate country, I'm not saying that they belong in that genre. But they have the raw-sounding guitar strumming and high-pitched singer giving it a less-contemporary vibe. That's just what I think.
I would say that a lot of people compare them to the Shins, but they are so underappreciated that not that many people know who they are. Yes, they sound like the Shins, but hey, a good song is a good song. And what have the Shins done lately (I hope they answer that question with a kick-a album soon!)? If your criteron is a good song, then the Fruit Bats are as good as the Shins.
@timdaughte the singer of the fruit bats is in the shins this is his solo/side project turned full band... heard an interview with the fruit bats on npr, check it
@f00by Yeah, but they sounded like the Shins before they belonged. I think the similarities/attitude/philosophy is what brought them in. (I say this without any evidence, just a hunch.) I love both bands, but the latest outputs by both have left me wanting. What's Broken Bells? I haven't heard anything. Are the Shins/Mercer doing ANYTHING? Been a looooong while for them/him.
@timdaughte Mercer and Danger Mouse are Broken Bells. Check out the website. Nothing like the shins but still good ear exercise :) Hope the shins do something again soon. They were epic live.
I was born in tegucigalpa Honduras!!! Yei yah! Love this song, a nice anthem for the rest of us=]
