Spend a few days in the gay world, and 60 is virginal--I know countless people in my community that have been with 500+. Even more shocking is the fact that this number is low compared to the 1000+ that many of the more "social" people are in the gay community. I am gay myself, and I agree that 60 is a lot, but I remain unphased when I know that the real world has even more promiscuous characters with body counts much, much higher. :/
Didn't Dan say in another episode that his dad never paid his mom a cent in alimony? It was when his dad said an alimony joke and Dan got upset about it. I can't remember if it was before or after this lol.
Although it meant the "real" Becky could go to college, I never did like the 2nd.. She was sO NOT "BECKY"!.. so sweeeet, and poliiite, and thoughhhtfulll..{kinda made ya wanna gagg!} .. I guess she was well-received among fellow-cast members, but I just kept wondering "Wherre's the free-spirited, independent, gutsy EDGE of our BECKY??!!" x)
@rani1223 Hmm, good question. After looking at them, maybe it's possible. They have similar lips and blue eyes, and I don't think Goranson is a very common name, but its hard to say.
@Sssadow I looked on Wikipedia, and all kinds of celebrity websites, but I can't find anything on Lindsay Goranson! Just that she's on that one Horror movie, I can't remember the name of.
Ask yourself, which is better...paying your ex wife $100 a week in Alimony or dropping thousands of bucks on a lawyer to MAYBE get your Alimony reduced/rescinded? I stress maybe; again, bad judge and you could not only get your case thrown out, but the judge could be in a particularly pissy mood that day and INCREASE it.
Again, this isn't as common as it once was when a lot of women were stay at home moms, but people making 6 figures a year still deal with this every day.
Anywho, my point is my mother eventually got a good paying job, making much more money then my father was, but the alimony was still applicable because it was a court decree. Now, my father could have gone to court and appealed the decision and asked for the divorce agreement to be amended, but this isn't the type of thing a lawyer will represent you for for cheap...divorce has always been big business in the U.S. My father simply couldn't afford it.
Depending on what kind of Judge you had, it could either work out very well in your favor, or it could work out completely for shit...it really was a tossup and depended a lot on your lawyer and how the Judge felt about you. The Judge in my parents divorce 30 years ago HATED my father (he was a professional musician, and we all know how 70 year old judges love 20 something rock and rollers), so he got some pretty heavy child support/alimony payments.
Alimony is becoming more and more a thing of the past for us "common folk", but having grown up with divorced parents I can tell you that it was not some ever evolving thing. When a man and woman got divorced and it was a contested divorce, they would go before a judge in the family court system. They would plead their cases and the judge would make a decision. There's no jury or anything, just one judge.
I don't like that Roseanne is making fun of mental illness in this episode. I don't think that her character would do that. Also, the storyline with Dan's dad and mom continues into the next episode for those that don't know.
Dan looks slim here. I've also noticed that in a few other episodes I've seen from this season. It seems like his weight always fluctuated from season to season, but he looks good here.
she said to jackie, that she is going to agree with dan because all Dan wants is someone to yell out to blow off steam...so when DJ is being a brat and puts his shoes on the table Roseanne asks DJ to ask dan something to do..which will get him mad, he will then yell at DJ and DJ is not the witty one anymore XD so Roseanne got DJ back...there you go
As a woman, I'd never take alimony if I got married. Adults should take care of themselves. Women who depend on an ex for life, because they are pathetic and can't take care of themselves like any adult should, are leeches. I don't need to be a leech. She had financial security as a stay at home mom, she's now a single woman, w/ a grown child. Single women have jobs, & pay their own bills. She doesn't deserve respect for leeching of her ex.
lol sorry i did not see this , but i agree on your sisde and other peoples side sorry if i came off sounding like a bitch, but i just think that the man should help out more , since he wasnt there when dan was not growing up.
Yeah. But he should pay child support when Dan was a kid if they got divorced, but she could have left him if he wasn't a good husband and father. She chose not to.
And earlier in the series, Dan's mom had been running a travel agency for a few years. So they got divorced when she was healthy and had her own company, but he still had to pay her alimony? That's fucked up.
And to burden him w/her cause she got sick in her old age is also fucked up. It's not his fault she can't work anymore.
Umm. you guys have to remember what generation they were from. It's different now, which is good, but take in consideration their age and their up bringing.
Ok. Maybe people don't understand what I'm saying so I'll try an analogy of sorts.
If Dan's dad had died instead of divorced her, his Mom would be eligible for welfare & food stamps till she got on her feet. Right? The gov gives people money every month, who aren't financially able to support themselves.
Once she had money to OWN a business, she would obvs be kicked off any gov aid program she was on. Because if you can start a business, you can pay your rent.
and couldn't work, and lost her business and savings and whatever, she would once again become eligible for some type of monthly government assistance.
If she were given free money by the gov the whole time she was successful and OWNED a business, everyone here would be like "Wtf? That woman has a job? WHY-T-F are my tax dollars going to her?
The way they wrote the show, Dan's dad would have been paying her alimony (FREE MONEY) the ENTIRE time. Even when she was working and had plenty of ...
So if we would all be up in arms about the gov giving her cash when she is more than capable of supporting herself, why do you think Dan's dad should fork over his hard earned money?
It's right Dan's dad was paying her when she was working?
You don't get alimony, decide you don't need it cause you work, and then decide "Oh nvm, I do". He would have been paying her part of his check the whole 9yrs or whatevs, even when she OWNED a bsns.
It' fucked up that any man would still have to pay alimony after that many years. His father has Crystal, Lonnie, Ed, and the baby girl to think about. His ex-wife should have gotten a job, or a husband in that amount of time.
Dan has no right to judge his dad for putting his wife and children before his ex-wife who can't support herself, even though she's a damn adult.
you give dan's dad credit for being "his father" though dans stay at home mom is the one that raised him, but you refuse to give dan's mom credit for her husbands income. kind of a duble standerd dont you think? or maybe you just dont think stay at home moms "work" and so they don't deserve to have anything to show for it like respect and financial security?
dans mom is sick and crazy, and when they were married he did not take care of his family, so yes i think he should have to pay alimony, to help her for all the times he did not help her
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Lmao! Omg! That's a lot of thumbs down.
I guess YouTube is filled with women who would expect their ex husband to give them free cash for nothing, even after the kids are grown, they at one point had a successful travel agency and should have put their own affairs in order, but were irresponsible and didn't.
So what? Just cause Dan's mom got ill in her old age, her ex husband has to take care of her? Why? LOL.
Well I don't know a lot about alimony, maybe some other people could help me with the specifics, but on the show, I think what happened is they decided on the mental illness arc later in the show. I don't think you're supposed to be thinking of his mom as working for the travel agency ever. I don't know a lot about alimony, but I believe alimony is a payment to support the woman as an ex, and child support is to support the child.
I don't hear a lot about alimony anymore so I'm thinking you have to take into account the time they are from. Men used to work and women stayed home and took care of the children years ago for the most part. I don't think mental illness in this episode had anything to do with it. Dan was upset that his dad had missed a payment not withstanding his mom being mental ill.
Additionally, when Dan's dad came to visit in the second season in the first episode that he appeared in, Dan said he "doesn't pay my Mom a dime in alimony" anyways. I think alimony was sort of a chivalrous thing of the times. And, at this point, Dan's mom probably did depend on it somewhat due to mental illness.
One last thing I did want to say, yes as a woman in this age, I wouldn't feel right and would find it unethical taking money from a man that I had divorced who is working while I am sitting at home. Obviously, there are more implications if he had a new family.
@BettieBlueballs lol true, good point..and I think that was the idea. HOWEVER, when you think of it this way-- 2 or 3 a year... that's roughly one every 3-4 months... how substantial could those relationships have been?? and for 20 YEARS!!! She prob should've had at least a couple of long-term relationships in that time, even if she didn't find her soul mate..and even if she didn't find anything long-term, what's wrong w/ taken some time off?? haha..so yea...Jackie was a slut but we love her :P
