To be honest ... Diana had the star capability , Flo had the powerful voice, and Mary always looked good filming. I love all three of these women ... Long live The Supremes legacy !
@bigbear39ca hey, you're Mary's number one fan obviously...even referring to her as "Miss Mary," you are obsessed with her, wish you knew her, and even wish you could even be her!
@bigbear39ca wow, you are such a loser. i just looked at another Supremes video, and read your Wilson insults...so you just go online and insult Mary Wilson all over YouTube? HAHA, that's so funny. Then you obviously do like her enough to keep watching her and taking so much of your time to talk so much shit about her.
@bigbear39ca what do you not notice that Diana's eyes look in opposite directions away from each other? face it, she's the one with the gerbil voice and is probably the result of inbreeding
its weird how , Diana is bony , Mary is skinny i guess , because Cindy looks huge next to Diana & Mary , Also , ive never notcied how much Diana Ross & Mary Wilson look alike , !!!! They could be sisters
@snoops71 Should have been ""here are your hostesses" but the way they did it seemed politicial, a pecking order... Diana was the real hostess, the others are along for the ride. Well... that's showbiz.
@snoops71 Same old, same old. I can't think of any trio or quartet that didn't wind up jockeying for position, catfights, pecking order, not on speaking terms, breaking up. Actually, even doubles, like Abbott & Costello, Martin & Lewis. It always wound up like a freakin' WAR.
@defundthewar Motown wisely kept Diana doing the hosting and lead chores. After she left the group, Motown still kept Mary in the background until she began to just take over. When new lead Jean got sick, they had to cancel until Lynda joined and could take over lead - Mary was never considered when that happened. The more Mary finally began to get herself out front, the more the group slid - until it disappeared. Mary hasn't been able to get backing since.
It seems that the group became more glamourous after Florence Ballard and now I see or should I say I hear why to compensate for the the lost of the strong harmonies of the Ballard years .
@RodneySandersTV Cindy is rather (I think) good-looking, she quite obviously has "Native American" blood VERY near... She's got those "high" cheekbones... Mary is probably the best-looking of the three... But what did she do with her looks? Nuttin, honey...
@Branner that may be true, but for those of her fans (of which there are many) , that didn't grow up with her when she was with The Supremes, she does just fine on her own, she excels actually.
Berry Gordy did a great job of elevating her, because in many acts it seems like it could have been anyone standing beside her doing back up singing or lame slapstick jokes.
When Florence left, they didn't miss a beat, so already a huge chunk was gone in terms of it feeling like a group.
Hey! Did anyone notice during the introduction at 0:05 when they showed the audience that Flo was in the audience? When they pan the audience you can see here sitting there with Chapman.
Omg..the commerials promoting cigarette smoking are a scream..LOL..the man and woman puffing away.and that was called being KOOL back then, .makes you wonder now whether they are still living as the both probably really smoked off camara. If only we knew then what we know now..so many lives would have been saved from lung cancer. tho it looking perfectly normal to me watching that couple puff away..today the tv station would be bombared with calls lol. my how times changed since the 60s!
This clip is wonderful and it's great to hear dialogue from Mary and Cindy as well, HOWEVER I'm not ok with Motown trying to make Cindy as sassy as Florence was. Cindy was sweet and quiet. Florence was the Supreme with the sharp tongue. Beautiful clip though...
I could watch this always - Cindy is so beautiful and warm. Diana's cool, but I hated what I call the "meatball wig." ;) Mary: gorgeous and, yes, sultry!
Does Mary define the word "sultry" or what? Cindy is not fat. Anyone standing next to Diana Ross is going to look big. She's extremely thin. Cindy was (and is) a very voluptuous woman and that's what we like about her. I do like this incarnation of the Supremes very much.
What I DON'T Like is the sense of 'urgency' to "hurry up and get RID of them" so that Diana can always 'be' the Prominent! Mary COULD'Ve and SHOULD've done ALOT of the stuff, at least the intros and dialog and some of the other stuff too! Cindy can talk too....'well'!
I feel so cheated when I watch this. I Love them ALL..... as a GROUP. They were 'dwarfing' the Supremes, and giving them an 'inferior' mentality and role! Not quite what was right to be done!
Just like when you attain any job. Your bosses are going to like certain employees over the others. Some get promotions and others don't. Certain departments get closed and the company then selects the ones they would like to keep while others get the pink slip. The Supremes was a department and they were clearly preparing to close it with the beginning of a new department. Dianas solo career. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It's call showBUSINESS!
You know, I'll give you 'that'. And you can call it what you WANT! The fact remains, I stated that I don't LIKE it! Period! They are NOT 'just' departments in the sense of personal lives ARE the issue! And you can argue that in 'departments' , people are involved! But the SUPREMES WERE the 'business', the entity of question.......in which there were no 'dePARTments'! They were a 'GROUP'! THEY BUILT the entity with their lives! Play with 'THAT'? Not Good Business!
I don't mean to sound shallow but did anyone notice the majority of the color of the audience? I don't get it, I've loved Diana's music since I was 8 and I'm black, hardly any black people in the audience
You've got that right. I'd be embarrased if someone gave me those lines. I saw M/F/D way back when the HDH LP first came out and Flo had it--the ability to deliver a lline. Back then all 3 gelled perfectly. Looks like cracks were starting to appear here...
If fat was the main issue with Flo from Berry, Cindy (who does look beautiful, despite)was on the chunky side her darn self.Tryin to force oneliners like Flo B who it came naturally for.Berry Gordy's request I bet!! humm!!!
I hate that nappy little "Love Child" era wig that My girl (Diana)is wearing(looks like the same one she sported for the filming of the "Wiz").I know, I know, she is "reppin" for "The Power Movement" But why that one?? Bootleg Cindy was trying to be elegant with that that fall that looks like she borrowed it from one of the other two.I feel like she came into the group with nothing and definately left with nothing! Ohh! and phony Mary cheesing and grining known folk's weren't right even herself!

Diana Ross and the Supremes were the female Beatles of the 1960's. But that is a
bygone era never to return, not in this life anyway. The reunion was not the same
in 2000. It was not the same woman singing background with her.

It's hard to watch the Supremes being so underused. Mary and Cindy looked great and should have had more screen time.
