@defundthewar Motown wisely kept Diana doing the hosting and lead chores. After she left the group, Motown still kept Mary in the background until she began to just take over. When new lead Jean got sick, they had to cancel until Lynda joined and could take over lead - Mary was never considered when that happened. The more Mary finally began to get herself out front, the more the group slid - until it disappeared. Mary hasn't been able to get backing since.

@Branner that may be true, but for those of her fans (of which there are many) , that didn't grow up with her when she was with The Supremes, she does just fine on her own, she excels actually.

Berry Gordy did a great job of elevating her, because in many acts it seems like it could have been anyone standing beside her doing back up singing or lame slapstick jokes.

When Florence left, they didn't miss a beat, so already a huge chunk was gone in terms of it feeling like a group.

What I DON'T Like is the sense of 'urgency' to "hurry up and get RID of them" so that Diana can always 'be' the Prominent! Mary COULD'Ve and SHOULD've done ALOT of the stuff, at least the intros and dialog and some of the other stuff too! Cindy can talk too....'well'!

I feel so cheated when I watch this. I Love them ALL..... as a GROUP. They were 'dwarfing' the Supremes, and giving them an 'inferior' mentality and role! Not quite what was right to be done!

Just like when you attain any job. Your bosses are going to like certain employees over the others. Some get promotions and others don't. Certain departments get closed and the company then selects the ones they would like to keep while others get the pink slip.
