Yeah that's right, Ricky Gardner played guitar on Iggy Pops excellent Lust For Life LP. Infact it was Ricky who composed the famous riff/chord sequence on The Passenger. I'm not too sure what he's been doing over the years since but I am aware he has his own band called 'The Beggars Opera' and I'm sure they are still on the go. His leads are so melodic and original, he's a really talented guitarist.
@whangie1 Appears you are right. My mistake. Album credits indicate Ricky Gardiner was 'lead', Alomar was "rhythm' on this album. Ricky was great..and its definitely in his style...he also did some great guitar for Iggy Pop. w/e became of Ricky?
One of Marilyn Mansons myspace, or facebook not sure which, updates was very similar to this. I'm pretty sure it was "I've stopped crashing the same car"
David Bowie can write a classic tune about walking down the street and seeing a fire engine! I think that is the key to being a great artist - you can make every day things look like big things and impart a sense of importance to simply being alive and paying attention.
to me it seems like he superimposed two songs to create this one. the melodic line and the chords don't connect at all, not to mention the fact that everything is completely disorganized.
The speed of it, especially the part "I was just going round & round..." is actually quite like the pace of time during an actual car wreck...very slow motion & surreal.
Wow...David Bowie 'LOW'...Used to listen to it every morning before high school in 1977/78,,,maybe 79 ! What a trip !!! But then again, Station to Station...1976 at the Nassau Colisuem...That was incredible !! The flashing lights behind him during...Breaking Glass.... Remember it like it was yesterday !
Story goes he was so high on coke and couldn't figure out how to get out of the hotel garage in Switzerland, don't matter tho' cus it's one kickass tune!!!
This song could have been written about my life.....weird I've related to the words since the early 80's....great lyrics Mr Bowie truly at his very best
When I was dancing in early 90s we were told to choose songs that went together thematically. For Art Fag me the more obscure the theme the better - the first three songs on this list were the ones I used for one of my favorite Comatose Trenchcoat -confusers, namely my tribute to JG Ballards Crash. I also had a "Deliverance" tribute and , for the seriously dead audience, a VERY special "Earaserhead" show. The management barely spoke English, so they were just THRILLED by my obvious effort.
Sorry but Low is just brilliant, immediately so and all the way through it... No 'challenging' required, the melodies on this masterpiece are just golden, sublime.
To me, it seems "the chrashing car" is a synonym for not getting out of the drug situation. May be i'm wrong ;-) but his voice and his words seems so depressed about NOT getting out of a horrible situation- just like in a nightmare.
this is my favorite period of bowie 77-80

but anyway, he way brillant always.
bowie´s images changed,
but he just could not suppress that he was
a helldog of a musician, so who cares about
his "phases"))?

this sounds like a song from another time and planet -
today it is all so explicitly pathetic,
but he just said it with a hint and said it all
the records of bowie in the 80ies are really great,
brillant, accessible and intelligent music beyond bore
