i think he made a two not-so-subtle references to the crowds attitude at the beginning, then continued to perform normally as if interacting with an enthusiastic crowd. i guess when you're used to performing in front of hundreds of people, you can choose to ignore certain factors such as the effect their reactions have on you and perform on that basis. still, if you're interested, you could watch his gig on the queen of england to find out his philosophical approach and/or description of it.
Does anyone know the one where he uses sign language that means fuck you, fuck you all and he shows it to the air hostess who uses it on a plane during the safety briefing? Please if anyone could tell me that'd be great!
@CwAziEGiRl This was actually a skit by Wil Anderson that you're asking about, he does it at the MICF one year, and if I remember correctly he does it at the Edinburgh Comedy Fest one year as well.
I've never seen a comedian be illreceived on a big stage before. It was interesting. It's a lot worse to watch it happen in smaller bars, especially comedians who aren't good at dealing with hecklers. So good on Danny. He held his own in spite of the "haha meh".
LOL actually this was taken directly off the DVD and apparently the rear audio channels weren't encoded - only a part of the audience laughing can be heard on this vid, a /very/ small part of it but yeah.
poor guy... tries to make the crowd on his side, but the crowd refused. As a performer, I understand the fact that you have to try and work the crowd and every crowd teaches you something.
He's better for this gig. I still like the improv stuff.
I fail to understand why people should laugh at this. I think that people have become conditioned to laughing at what is actually quite weak humour. He lacks the verve, the vitality and the real in-touch sense of the likes of Billy Connolly. He seems quite forced at times. Try watching the likes of Sgt Bilko, John Cleese in Fawlty. Timing, pauses, content - so clever, and very funny.
Tough crowd :/ lol. it almost makes Danny's act funnier...the pregnant pauses combined with Danny's amused and bewildered expressions are rather hilarious.
Whew! Slightly...difficult crowd, wasn't it? Maybe they'd all been sitting there for awhile and were just really tired? Trying to not be angry at them FOR DARING TO NOT LAUGH AS HARD AND AS VIBRANTLY AS THEY SHOULD HAVE! DANNY BHOY IS AN EXTREMELY ACCOMPLISHED COMEDIAN! At least I think so. Well, he left as soon as he could so it didn't last too long. Poor Danny.
Yeah, but look at the average age of the crowd. Well I don't know everybody's age, but all in first row are 60+ years old. And they're British - which means they're like 110 years old :)
But Gabriopunk77.... you are right. And so is Danny Bhoy. The British audience do lack the enthusiasm
I totally agree, what a totally lame ass crowd. They suck!! He is incredible here, like he always is, but I have never, ever seen this guy do his work and have the audience so dead. I don't know how he did it. Man I'd have wanted to walk out on them. They're staunch and boring. How bizarre.
poor danny ir seems his audience has lost most of their funny bones... they barely laughed compared to the rest of his shows.... he still rocks!!! looking forward to his show on sunday 5/16/10.... yay!!! XD I am sooo excited!!!
Lol typical scot audience, only laugh at the money jokes.
