  • The main hook in the Mightor theme reminds me of God of War ! :D

  • Mighter Mitre! Empowered with the Bishop's cap....

  • I think thisvmight be the theme sequence for the second season. I just received the complete series from WarnerArchive today and while all 18 eps have the same opening title, the final six or so have ending credits with scenes from the intro shown here. I'm assuming Warner has just slapped the same opening titles on all the eps like they do with so many of the old HB product.

  • i believe hanna-barbera used orchestral music as a way to dramatize music in cartoons...most cartoons nowadays use an electronic score instead of real instruments....I know the japanese anime shows use a lot of orchestral stuff.

  • Composed and conducted originally by Hanna-Barbera's musical genious, Ted Nichols, who also created Shazzan / The Herculoids theme songs, the classic Scooby-Doo Where Are You! background music, and countless more. Created & designed by Alex Toth. Violence in cartoons... battles, awesome creatures, brave & fearless superheroes... and a love story too, remember Tor was in love with Sheera? who, of course, was to damn hot, sexi and blind to notice he was Mightor :P

TED NICHOLS & ALEX TOTH RULE!

  • Music is AMAZING........ and I love when Maby flattens that alien thing by ramming it!

  • 1968....What?..I loved this then!

  • I love Mightor's voice."Quick little Rock".This and the Herculoids were my fav's from back then.

  • Gosh! I missed these cartoons so much. May this be reaired on Cartoon Network. Sheesh! Old cartoons are better and had more sense than today's (minus Ben10 and a few more.).

  • its great to hear my old pal Benton Quest has found work doing voice overs

  • Shera sounds like the lady who voiced over The Invisible Girl from The Fantastic Four 1967 cartoon series.

  • @Krazy3912 Actually, Sheera was voiced by Patsy Garrett, and the Invisible Girl by Jo Ann Pflug.

  • Nice to hear "Wilma" and "Mr. Slate's" voice in yet another Hanna Barbera Prehistoric Cartoon. :-)

  • Here in Brazil it was a success during the 70s. The song is fantastic...

  • Herman Mellville is ROLING!!

  • This is one of the best themes of any show ever. Perectly timed with the Heroic deeds!!!!

  • some serious theremin jammin'!!!!.....love it!!

  • Martillo me?

  • Love it! I think I'm 7 again...my tv was still black&white, thank you for posting these.

  • Oh man I loved this when it came out.

  • Oh man ! kids of today really missed out. the cartoons and their music scores of those days were just incredible. Saturday morning cartoons were mostly superheroes/action and adventure not this bland junk they have now and over the past few years

  • God bless Hanna Barbera.

  • thank for see again this superheroe prehistoric name mightor

  • When will MIGHTOR, SHAZZAN, HERCULOIDS and the BANANA SPLITS ever be released on DVD?

  • God increase my strenght like buffalo (Psalm 92:10 Your bible)

  • Man! I still get goosebumps when I listen to that opening credit theme song. It's a shame they don't compose stuff like that anymore!

  • So do I, the music score on this particular cartoon almost won an emmy nomination, because it was so good, even back then! They don't make 'em like this anymore! Come to think of it, this may be the main reason kids are so ready to grow up....BAD Cartoons!!!

  • Lol! Couldn't have said it better, myself.

  • Actually, I'm going to write a letter to Time-Warner asking if they have released the so-called incidental music from these classic H-B series. (Among other subjects.)

The score on this is MAGNIFICENT. You could actually take the various versions of the theme and -- if one had the talent -- combine them into a superb orchestrial piece.

Can you imagine going to a concert hearing this? And saving the TITLE until AFTER it had been played? I wonder how many people would even know who Mightor is?

  • I've looking and hoping for some sort of compilation CD with all the incidental music from the mid-late '60s HB sci-fi toons. I already have one with music from Jonny Quest - I want the music from the later later toons such as the Herculoids, Space Ghost, Fantastic Four, etc.

  • @spideytoons You're a person after my heart.I'd like that same thing as well.Space Ghost,Fantastic Four,Herculoids,Shazzan,Moby Dick/Mightor,and Birdman themes kick ass.The 60s cartoons will always reign supreme.

  • @midknightryder13 I put my money that the incidental music here was written by Hoyt Curtain (known for Johnny Quest, The Jetsons and Battle of the Planets). The use of brass has his stamp on it.

  • @msm2you same here.......although i wouldn't be surprised if Ted Nichols had his fingers into that sort of thing....as far as a project involving HB music is concerned, the best bet would probably be to just transcribe from the original film stock material and just resurrect the music from scratch..........would be fun to hear this music interpreted by the likes of Todd Rundgren, Danny Elfman, Mark Mothersbaugh....take care!!

  • Getting a recording will be difficult: One downside of Curtin's "rough and ready" approach is that few original masters exist of his soundtrack recordings. When Rhino Records attempted to put together a tribute to Curtin in 1995, they found that, in many cases, the only available source was the film stock itself. There is no existing master of "The Flintstones" theme, for example.

  • @msm2you that post should be in quotes as I did not write it.

  • @midknightryder13 I'd know it was Mightor. All the scores from these H-B adventure science fiction cartoons were great! So have you been able to get any of the music? I have all of the original Jonny Quest music,

  • @abaneyone Thats interesting. A lot of music in JQ was stock used in other shows. anything from Space Ghost to the Flintstones(usually in 'scary' comedy scenes ,tho'). Does the JQ music come with backround info that points this out? Does it bring up other details about the show or the music itself or about Ted Nichols?

  • If this show was still on TV, I would watch it every week.

  • To clear up the different openings. There were 36 Mightor episodes. The first 18 episodes didn't have Don Messick voice-over but the second 18 episodes did.

  • @TheGhostPlanet Sorry to disappoint you, ghost planet, but I've watched this series immensely and the openings with the Don Messick voice-over is only heard during the series last 4 half hour episodes...trust me.

  • WOW Mightor!!!! Ive been looking for this forever!!!! THANKS!

  • The voice over man sounds like Vapor Man of the Galaxy Trio.

  • That is Don Messick, who did indeed voice Vapor Man . . . as well as Scooby-Doo.

  • and we musn't forget Papa Smurf or the Pillsbury Dough Boy!!....

  • Uh,actually Paul Frees was the original voice of Poppin' Fresh, the Pillsbury dough boy.

  • This Opener I think may have been created for the series second season.

Great to see and hear again !!

  • The series NEVER had a second season. This is just a alternate opening.

  • This is rare? I'm pretty sure the Boomerang channel runs this version.

  • Thats sounds like Dr. Benton Quest doing the voice over.

  • It is...the late great Don Messick.

  • Oh, man!! What a blast from the past!! How come they don't make cartoons this cool anymore?? Most of the cartoons they make these days are crap-ola!

  • Thank you for posting this. I have been searching for some of the old shows I enjoyed on tv as a kid, this was one of them. Sends me down 'memory lane'.

  • anyways, getting away from all that religious mumbo-jumbo, this version with the original voice over is rare, especially after watching these shows disected into various syndicated segments over the years. Thanks for sharing!

  • long live Don Messick!!....was always a treat to hear his "normal" voice!!

  • Sorry Osotoron, but you are way off base. I AM also a Christian, and see nothing wrong with Mighty Mightor. I enjoyed watching the cartoon as a kid; and even today still appreciate the positive message put forth in those old action/ adventure cartoons by "good guys" such as Mightor, Young Samson, etc.: 1) to always do what your conscience says is right/ do the right thing...2) always stand up for/ defend those who are unable to defend themselves.

  • I agree. Shame those in Hollywood/media have lost sight of that, then people wonder why we have teenagers making pacts to get pregnant and things like Columbine.

  • Sorry Osito-tron, but your pathetic brainwashed follower comments which somehow are not welcome. I didnt look up Mighty Mightor to get an earful of Christian propaganda. You mutha-f******* are bad enough commin' round my door Saturday mornings giving me your nonsense, now I gotta hear it here too? Get lost moonie!

  • not to worry....the fundies will eventually inbreed themselves out of existence!!

  • Be a hero of faith, by the faith in Jesus Christ. He is powerful to make you a new creature, to dress all his army and fight the spiritual battles of YHWH of the army. I have brainwashed (and washed all my body, mind and soul) by the blood of Jesus Christ. God bless you!

  • Samson, like Mighty Mightor was an faith hero (Hebrews 11-Bible). He had a wonderful strenght, Jesus Christ is powerful for gives you that force in all your body, soul and mind by His Holly Spirit. Open your heart to Jesus, and be saved

  • That offend you? Why?

  • No, that haven't ofend me, but thanks for asking. ¡great job Alex Toth, this is one of the best cartoons and the best theme song of the 60s years, alone with the herculoids and Space ghost's themes! Thanks the user for the excellent and rare posting!

  • Yes, Mighty Mightor is one of the best cartoons and best theme song of the 60 years, the attitud of this hero inspired me to have the character of one hero of faith in Jesus Christ. I think God is looking for a man and woman that be valient in these trouble times. God bless you!

  • EXCELLENT !! I remember this version too but haven't seen this since about 1973 watchin saturday morning cartoons on TV in Brisbane. Think it was 7 that screened this and other great toons like Shazzan .. the Herculoids and of course Spaaaaaace Ghoooooost !!!

  • Tor and Mightor were much like Clark Kent and Superman, one being the mild mannered secret identity of the other. Mightor however was much bigger and mature-looking than Tor (as compared to the differences between Superman and Clark Kent).

Still, you would think the villagers (especially Sheera) would be able to figure out that Tor and Mightor were the same person. They both had the same name for their pet-dinosaur/fire-breathing dragon for one (Tog).

  • Actually, a better analogy would be Billy Batson and Captain Marvel. A teenager being transformed into an adult superhero by saying a magic word. Remember, Tor had to say "Mightor!" while lifting the club to trigger the transformation.

  • Yeah,reillync,talk about naive people.

  • I thought the same thing, until twenty years ago. When I realized that "Tog" might actually have been a generic tribal term for that species of flying blue dino!

  • That sequence comes from the episode "Mightor Meets Tyrannor". Also the one where Mightor shoves the T-Rex into the trees.

It's a shame that these classic cartoons went off the air by 1968-69. They were deemed "too violent" and were replaced by Scooby-Doo, Archie, Sabrina, the Groovie Goolies, etc.

  • Correction, Moby Dick and Mighty Mightor ran for 2 seasons on CBS Saturday Morning, 1967-68 and 1968-69...I think I remember this being the second season opener, but it's been a long time!

  • You know, I don't recall this intro at all -- with the voice over, I mean. But I always thought the music for this was so great! You just don't hear full orchestrial arrangements for most of today's shows. (The most notable exception being the opening for the first two seasons of "Justice League">)

  • Actually the second rendition of the MD and MM theme was aired a few weeks later after the series premired during the 1967-68 season. But during the 1968-69 season, the closing theme music was extended. That I remembered.

  • something else worth pointing out regarding this clip is the voice-over by Don Messick....it's easy to forget that the guy actually did have a "normal" speaking voice...i recall an interview he did way back when that he stated that one of his biggest problems in getting work was that he had to constantly point out to producers that he really didn't talk like a cartoon!!

  • When the babe is about to get run over by the rock stop the video at 00:41!And you will see that he was tor not mightor when he saves her! error! LOL!

  • did ya notice where he had his hands when he grabbed her to shove her out of the way?....

  • HA! HA! HA! HA!

  • I like this intro better then the first one!!!Mightor had one hot looking babe!!!

  • yeah, after that rescue she'd better put out for him!!

  • hmmmmm.....took me a while to come up with this, but think the babe's name was Shanna(and the kid who was the Mightor fanboy was Little Rock)..as i recall, Shanna kept stringin' Tor along, but it was Mightor's club she had the hots for!!....jeez, redheads!!....are you reading this, Wilma??...

  • LOL!!!!

  • Actually her name was Sheera. I don't know who was more proned to be rescued...Sheera or Little Rok.

  • I AGREE!

  • This is the second overture from "Moby Dick & The Mighty Mightor" (Hanna-Barbera, 1967), done in 1968.

  • an evil vintage. MMmmMmMmmMmMMmMMMMmMmm
