follow up. I'm grown up not a young child. I was surprised that my Grandmother liked Alice Cooper. Granddad was in the service (air force) and traveled the world. He bought records wherever he was and sent them home. At home they were kept in pristine condition. He later put them on cassette tapes to listen to. Many records are from Germany, England and Japan. He liked early country, hard rock, classic rock. He said he hated heavy metal like Iron Maiden and that stuff like that was crap. (20ish)
I inherited a bunch of Alice Cooper records from my grandparents. It stipulated in the (WILL), that I had to listen and after listening I can't stop. Is it a curse? You tell me! In my opinion Love It To Death on vinyl is the Alice Cooper Masterpiece. I can't stop listening so I guess I (WILL) have to, Love It To Death.
The producer actually thought the song was called "I'm Angry" (look up VH1's Behind the Music episode on Alice Cooper), and the reason why was because Alice (then Vincent Fournier) was slurring the words. Once he got Alice to pronounce the words properly, then everyone could hear what he was saying.
Great! Am now 56 and have owned this album (and Killer) since I was 17 in 1971. I went to Warren Michigan in the summer of '71 and met my cousins I had only heard about. What an amazing time I had. Alice Cooper filled the airways around Detriot and I've loved his music ever since, although Love it to Death and Killer were by far his best albums. I now listen to his nightly radio shows. Talk about bringing back memories. He always takes me back to those days.
Wow. Just wow. A great version for sure, though it never would have gotten as much airplay as the tighter shorter version we know so well. Before Love it to Death, these guys were starving for a hit, "trying to catch a ride on that caddillac". This was a hit and they must have known it. This was their shot, no time to be artistes.
This was a band that once was known for making the audience run for the exits. They worked themselves into a tight outfit. It wasn't all about the gimmick.
@spiderbaby1958 Actually, Bob Ezrin prompted them to re-work it. When he came in to work on Love It To Death, he heard a live version from an earlier show, and helped them mold the song into what it became. Even after doing so, he struggled to convince Warner Brothers that it was a potential hit.
@jpjonesy I agree, never heard a studio sound remotely like that room. No overdubs either, straight burning blue's ball ass through and through. I am so moved by the feel Glen was putting into this, resonating fundamentally, underlining, accenting, the ups and downs
Really interesting to hear this as a work in progress. You can really hear how their producer re-shaped it to make it radio-ready. Good stuff!

I don't think this is a studio outtake or demo. Sounds like an early live soundboard.
