I replaced my front end suspension it previously had drums the newer one has disc brakes i read somewhere that i was suposed to change the master cylinder to a dual master cylinder for better braking so i did after all the hassle i noticed that the original has 3 holes for the brake line and 1 for the reservoir the dual cyl. has 5 for lines (thats what it looks like) and holes for the reservoir. Do brake switches go to the extra 2 ?
@Bowerso thanks for the detail i see how it goes now. It seems the 2 switches are the same size as the thread for the break lines i didnt know. Nice. I'm redoing my 74 beetle right now. Complete body off restoration with a few custom tricks. I'm getting ready to gather all the parts to build a 2332cc turbo motor. :)
Wholesale china cheapest car dvd player, car gps, car monitors, car audio, car video and other Automobile Entertainment products, We have our own factory and have more than 10 partnership factories to enlarge our product line according to customer demand.
I've researched restoring these especially the '69. It's easy unless you have to do floor pans, cause then it's hell getting them off the chassis, and if you want the ducts it's even worse.
They are still cool though. I'd do one stock and mess with the engine with the oil cooler and drilled crank shaft, and maybe put a monza exause and decent carbs on. They are good engines to get good fuel economy to power ratio.
how much does it cost to re do an engine like that. i just got a 69 bug the engine is decent just need upgrades basically everything, any suggestions?
It all depends on how much money and how greasy you want to get, if the engine is decent then just dress it up a little and drive it, if you are looking for some more power buy pistons and jugs. I would suggest 1776cc for all around performance/longevity.
6 volt has it's charm, until it gets cold, you only have to drop 1 or 2 volts and your push starting. 66' is my favorite year, I tried to buy one but everybody wants waaaay too much for them.
They bolt right up, pre 66' fenders up front and post 74' fenders in the back, the only thing I had to do was use the sneek under front bumper brackets due to the fact the front fenders don't have holes for the bumper.
That paint job is sweet! Nice engine too, but I would have went with dual weber 40mm ida's. The solex 40's are ok but not very adjustable and the linkage falls apart on them in the long run.
A bit more........The car ended up at my buddies farm and we proceeded to jump, smash, hit and kick this thing to no end. My buddy decided after way to many drinks to try to roll it over, and he did. he got it doing doughnuts on a hillside and finallt the back tire blew and he flipped it twice! We pulled it back to the garage and put in a fresh battery and roll started it and it still ran! We tried to cut the roof off but our sawzall blade broke on the last cut. We chained it too our bronco and
Very nice bug! It does sound like you might need to sync up the dual carbs a bit but its running strong as a MF. I had a 73 beetle for a few years, it got hit by lightning one stormy day and it blew out the windshield and a guy that was standing next to it said the whole thing lit up like a christmas tree!. I was afraid to start it plus it was a river after having no windsheild for an hour. I towed it home and dried it out and.she fired right up!

Oh, if you're crazy you could put a 50 shot of NOS on it.. ;) I don't think I've seen that on a 1200 before.
ohh ok cool lol about how much would NOS cost ? i can always look it up but i figured id just ask u lol BUT i did put race plug wires on..lol im gonna get higher performance coils and all that stuff for it when i get some extra money..and im gonna put hotter plugs in too =] but im gonna have to wait till a few months maybe year or 2 later to do any big work such as engine and stuiff...or i might just save up alot and buy a whole new engine already ready ya know? lol
A simple NOS kit runs around $400, but I was just kidding, I don't think a 1200 would like it very much, it would be cool once or twice and then KA-BOOM!
Sounds good man. I've got a 72 with a 1915. Counterweighted crank, balanced rods and pistons but went with a stock cam and stock heads because I drive it 30 miles back and forth to work everyday. Also have dual Weber 40's and 1.4:1 rockers.
Thats sweet mate, love the idle! Beautifully responsive, you must be well chuffed. I wouldn't wanna know how much it cost u though! Whats the Bhp/Torque@RPM? Imagine it must be around 140-160Bhp with mods, cams and stuff. I'm so jealous!
I wish!, I went with mild heads to save on gas, I had planned to drive it a lot for work. I am under 100Bhp, now that I don't drive it every day I might put some bigger heads on it.
I have found that running 94mm pistons even with total seal rings will distort even with a low compression setup. Gene Berg even agrees with that. I have built a few pretty nice ones, but they lose compression prematurely. In the future I will run the 90.5's and a stroker crank which yields substantially more power and torque. Your bug looks very sharp though.
At the rate I am driving this car it will take about 10 years to egg out the cylinders, even when that happends new juggs and pistons are less then $300. By then my kid will be old enough to drive and it will be his problem :)
Yea the other up side of a 1914cc is HEAT! you can actually get to a point where you wont freeze to death. That cap, I am not sure if it was from a show or Mid America Motorworks. I go through a couple a year. I like your bus, nice rims!
I have a 1973 reg beetle and looks similar to yours based on the taillights. Are you adjusting the valves after each oil change, and I guarantee that a weber or delorto carb would give you better performance. I have a 1776 in mine with ported and polished heads done about 2 months ago. I bought the upgrade kit from Mid America Motorworks. They have great prices. Also check out CIP.1, which they are in california.
Well I am totally happy with my Kads, even without chokes it starts first crank. I really haven't set the valves in 2 years, the only thing I should do is go to a vacuum distributor, and maybe better heads but for now I like the mileage I am getting..
Hey that´s exactly the same color of my bug. I have a 2002 mexican bug and I love it. I kinda agree with you about the engine. I like FI but if I have to choose between fuel injection and carburator, I´ll go for carburator no doubt. Great video and great bug.
cool, where did you get your bug? I have over 60K miles on mine, the FI was nice (easy to start, quiet) but it made basic service a pain, ever try to get your generator out? My one real complaint is rust, I use mine for the snow and its a battle to keep the rot at bay, good luck with your mexibeetle....
Well, I actually got it here in Mexico (I´m mexican). But I also agree with you on the basic service. I can fix just some parts but the entire service has to be done in the shop, cause I don´t have the tools and a scanner to check the computer sistem. Anyway, it´s a great car.
Wow, I guess that's the best place to buy one! I couldn't tell by your accent :) I always worried about the computer part of the EFI, the vw dealers up here wouldn't know what to do with it, and I always had to cross referance parts like from golf and eurovans. But all in all I do like the power of the new motor..
Yeah, sometimes I want to experience some speed too; but my bug isn´t the best car to do it :( I really don´t want to change the entire engine but I don´t know what to do to make it faster. Some people tell me to change the ignition cables and put a High speed air filter, but still I don´t know if that would do anything.....And where did you buy your bug?
Bigger jugs and pistons would help, it's not the WHOLE motor but it is labor intensive, but with bigger cylinders and some nice heads the flat4 can make some good power without breaking the bank. I got my bug in New Jersey, I was going to vw shows looking to buy a used one, people want WAY too much for them up here, found a guy selling Mexibeetles with warranties and choice of color, my wife liked the green one...
Hey man such a nice car there, I love the transition you made from the front to the back, old bug-- new bug. I've got a 86 mexican bug is not tuned but runs like hell... but it seems that your little insect flyes... great.. I hope you can share more vids... thanks..
Thanx, this is a 2000 Mexibeetle sitting on a 69 pan, I broke the cam gear on the injected motor and replaced it with a 1914cc unit, much better, although the EFI was pretty cool for a while. You can check my other vw video to see how the paint job went.
Nice car man... i have a Vw 1980.. Can you tell me where did you buy that engine? and how much it cost to you... and another question... what did you do whit the exhoust? couse it sound so BEAUTIFUL ! :')
I got the motor from Quality German Auto, I did have problems with it in the begining (oil cooler exploded) so I wasn't totaly happy with my $1400 "turn key" motor, since then no poblems. If you do a search for Euro Twin Tuckaway exhaust on the internet you can find thoes glass packs. The place I got them from is gone now.
You need a serious lesson on tuning your engine. It most certainly sounds the worst during the initial start up and remains shaky at best before you peel the rear tires.
Once again, cold motor, no chokes, when it warms up it runs smooth as glass, I might have to let it warm up for 10 minutes and take another video(it was less then a minute between takes in the video). At the time this was taken it was a fresh rebuild (100 miles on it maybe).
I like them, but they don't have chokes, so it takes a few minutes before it idles on it's own without stalling. And nobody comments on how quick it starts, one rev, and that's all it takes, even if it's 10° out.
Hey broth , your timing its somewhere wrong, and BTW even its a old shoot of your car, that distributor cap throw it away or can cause an sparks jump over , and by other hand, the contacs materials used in that crap ,doesn`t guarantee you nothing but poor performance..
I agree, check your points are opening sufficiently at TDC and that they are not burnt and pitted. If yes change the condesor. If points are satisfactory timing should be advanced slightly and get rid of that Big Boy's Toys rubbish. Fit German Bosch original equipment. Big Boy's Toys is a waste of money gimmick.
The timing is good, the motor was cold, no chokes, when it warms up it purrs like a kitten. The see-thru cap is for shows and when I made the video, I keep a stock cap behind the back seat in case I am going anywhere far. But it looks so cool at night I just keep putting them back on, I have to sand the contacts down every couple of weeks...
The cam is only a 110, built for street more then strip. I wish they were quietpacks, they are the cheapo glasspacks, the headers came with them, I can't wait for them to rot out so I can get quietpacks on it.
I am assuming you're talking about the tail lights, you can get them from Ebay or JC Whitney or the Real source $35-55, if you are talking about the headlights, I put earlier fenders on it (pre 67).
I feel your pain with rough idling due to racing cams. It sucks trying to get it going in the morning. But man - your fuel pump is noisy! Switch to a rotary, less noise and have a built in regulator, if you don"t have one already. Otherwise, very nice
Yea, I am sure replacing my 6 year old tranny mounts would add tons of horsepower and/or speed, right now it runs under 17 seconds, if I want to go fast I'll just drive the superchaged Miata, or the V8 S10, or the V8 RX7, or the turbo PT, or the Mustang, or the 57 Chevy, or one of my bikes.. and your right all show, and I have a garage full of trophies to prove it...
Very cool wheel spinning start. I didn't know a low compression type 1 could do that, though the modified 1.9 liter displacement does sound about right.
That engine's tuned almost perfect, just listen to the way it's eager to rev. Most of the one's I've seen sound wheezy and weak. The loping idle is normal for it, especially when cold--it should smooth out as it warms up, though a new MSD ignition would probably fix it right up.
you need to get your engine timing right man

I got the motor from Quality German Auto, I did have problems with it in the begining (oil cooler exploded) so I wasn't totaly happy with my $1400 "turn key" motor, since then no poblems. If you do a search for Euro Twin Tuckaway exhaust on the internet you can find thoes glass packs. The place I got them from is gone now.

The Pre-1988 Volkswagen Beetle - Best sounding Four Cylinder engine.

You need a serious lesson on tuning your engine. It most certainly sounds the worst during the initial start up and remains shaky at best before you peel the rear tires.
Nice design on the paint job.

Once again, cold motor, no chokes, when it warms up it runs smooth as glass, I might have to let it warm up for 10 minutes and take another video(it was less then a minute between takes in the video). At the time this was taken it was a fresh rebuild (100 miles on it maybe).

kads? yeah i dont really like em. i got em.
beetle123 4 years ago
I like them, but they don't have chokes, so it takes a few minutes before it idles on it's own without stalling. And nobody comments on how quick it starts, one rev, and that's all it takes, even if it's 10° out.

Sounds like you need to clean youe carb(s)

sounds like its gotta racing cam
slapaho087 4 years ago
Hey broth , your timing its somewhere wrong, and BTW even its a old shoot of your car, that distributor cap throw it away or can cause an sparks jump over , and by other hand, the contacs materials used in that crap ,doesn`t guarantee you nothing but poor performance..
good luck..
latino1302 4 years ago
I agree, check your points are opening sufficiently at TDC and that they are not burnt and pitted. If yes change the condesor. If points are satisfactory timing should be advanced slightly and get rid of that Big Boy's Toys rubbish. Fit German Bosch original equipment. Big Boy's Toys is a waste of money gimmick.
sonicstep 4 years ago
The timing is good, the motor was cold, no chokes, when it warms up it purrs like a kitten. The see-thru cap is for shows and when I made the video, I keep a stock cap behind the back seat in case I am going anywhere far. But it looks so cool at night I just keep putting them back on, I have to sand the contacts down every couple of weeks...

sounds kinda like the one my dad and i have...1776cc with a w130 engle racing cam
what type of cam do you have in your vw?
but i see you have quietpacks, what type of header do you have on it?
shogunballa14 4 years ago
The cam is only a 110, built for street more then strip. I wish they were quietpacks, they are the cheapo glasspacks, the headers came with them, I can't wait for them to rot out so I can get quietpacks on it.

R they 2x twin downdraughts, big carbs can give lumpy idle, but can be inproved with selection of correct venturi's jets etc.

Awesome Bug! How much do those Headlight conversion things cost for the super beelte??
SIXTYoneVW 4 years ago
I am assuming you're talking about the tail lights, you can get them from Ebay or JC Whitney or the Real source $35-55, if you are talking about the headlights, I put earlier fenders on it (pre 67).
Bowerso 4 years ago
I feel your pain with rough idling due to racing cams. It sucks trying to get it going in the morning. But man - your fuel pump is noisy! Switch to a rotary, less noise and have a built in regulator, if you don"t have one already. Otherwise, very nice

You could piss in the gas tank forever and it would still keep running. One tough car.

All show, no go! Replace your tranny mounts stupid!
Ztig503 5 years ago
