Prove it. Prove to me that Iran is really a threat to my personal rights. Prove that this war is not because Iran set-up an oil-bourse (look it up) and decided to use Euros instead of US $ for trading in oil.
Ayn Rand is my hero. I have studied everything from her philosophy for the last 15 years. There is something so wrong about what Mr. Brook says. Israel is a religious state, a police state and is the most strategic trade-route in the world.
How about some proof for these "facts"? And please explain what exactly you mean by "religious state" and "police state".
When I think of a police state I think of widespread and extraordinary abridgments of individual liberty (e.g. North Korea). When I think of a religious state I think of a state ruled by a religious hierarchy (e.g the Papacy of the Middle Ages). Is this what you mean? Or do you mean there are SOME limitations on liberty and SOME religious aspects to their government?
Read John Galt's speech in Atlas Shrugged. I can say it no better than Ms. Rand.
Mr. Brook seems to have an agenda and often sides with the collectivist group think of War War War.
There is no self-defense in this case. The media which is owned or heavily influenced by the military industrial complex (GE is a defense contractor and owns NBC / MSNBC for example) does not give honest news.
Iraq had no weapons of mass destruction and Mr. Brook was also decrying "SELF DEFENSE" back then.
Why are you evading? Why do you not explain your assertion that Israel is a "police state" and "religious state"? Such an assertion requires that you provide at least some evidence. Are you going to demand proof from others but not from yourself?
So we have to prove that Iran is a threat (the evidence for which is overwhelming), but you do not have to prove that Israel is a religious police state? On what basis can you demand proof when you have exempted yourself from the requirements of proof?
When you assert something you must give SOME REASON for believing it, otherwise it literally can have no meaning because you have not connected it to reality.
Where do YOU get evidence that you feel so strongly about, that you are willing to take MY PRODUCTIVE EFFORTS WITHOUT MY CONSENT and use these to pay for the death and destruction of an enitre culture?
This is not what Ayn Rand is about. This is not what Objectivism is about.
Do not ask me to sacrafice anything to the "greater good", ever.
Which culture? If the Fundamentalist Islamic one, then that most certainly deserves to be destroyed. If, however, you mean mid-east culture in general, then I do not think Yaron Brook is advocating that. I am certainly not.
Ideally you should not be forced to pay taxes, but the fact is it will not go away anytime soon. Legitimate issues of national defense will arise in the meantime.
This being said, you still have not provided any evidence for Israel being a religious police state.
As for proof of the Iranian threat. There is the nuclear program, the funding of Hamas and Hezbollah (who have killed hundreds of Americans and Israels), their support for militias in Iraq (who have killed many more), and the fact that they are the idealogical center of the the Shia Islamists. There is also the billions of dollars of oil they stole from western companies that made those oil fields profitable in the first place.
The media is mostly owned by the Zionists. Other than GE -- which of course makes dough selling weapons. Both groups gladly send the poor to die for their agenda.
@thbyrnes It is self defence, because the Iranian regime, for many years, has been explicitly trying to achieve world domination. They have funded many terrorist organizations in the middle east and have been responsible for many attacks on US troops.
Furthermore, they committed an act of war when they took over the US embassy decades ago.
Why should we wait for Iran to get nuclear weapons when it has been doing everything in its power to destroy this country for decades.
@1337melee I think you may be confused. You are a man. You are not an artifical entity (country). You are not being attacked (by other artifical entities).
If you believe you are, you do not understand Ayn Rand.
The fact is that a political and ideological movement which continually seeks to launch attacks against the country I live in is a distinct threat to me and my way of life.
What would be your solution be to the threat of destruction and enslavement by foreign aggressors?
@1337melee you cannot change the world, you can only change yourself.
You are not a country, you are not a political movement, those and the "enemy" you claim are fictions... they do not exist... but you are a man and you do.
Because if it isn't, there is no reason for you to argue against bombing it.
If it is, and we have all been told lies about it, and these lies are held as common knowledge, why hasn't the United States bombed Iran?
Is it because the United States understands they are lies and propagates them in order to justify the continued existence that trade route through Israel?
If the powers that be have the ability to fake an attack on the United States Embassy in Iran, and the explicit propagation of an Ideology of "Death to America" with funding for military training and bomb-making expertise, Why Have they done it?
I really don't get it.
BTW stop trying to use basic metaphysical principles to negate the existence of reality.
My life has already been compromised by the attacks made possible by Iran. All of the Americans who have died and will ultimately die are lost forever. Those are individuals who, by all indications, would have been an asset to my life.
Mr. Brook has no right to advocate violence. Ms. Rand was very clear on the matter. A man's loyalty should not be to the agenda of corporate tribalism (Washington, London, Rome)... but rather to individual rights.
To the British Crown, which has for centuries warred over the Middle-East, this fight is about controlling trade-routes and commodities traded therein.
In Chess, the main advantage is achieved by controlling the center of the board.
Iran is a direct threat to our individual rights, to western civilization. The fight Mr. Brook is speaking of is a fight in the defense of these individual rights.
The problem with trying to instigate a revolution or get the internationals community to bully Iran into stopping is that, in both cases the outcome is very unknown. In a revolution, we could end up with something even worse. If we just bullied them, then they would not be cowed to act in the future. The only real choice to end the regime militarily, giving them a choice, "Our way or the fuckin' highway, buddy." To be honest, I think we would actually have a lot less casualties this way.
(Continued) It wouldn't be all that hard, either. Iran is not Nazi Germany. They are not exactly a worthy enemy of the current U.S. Military. Iraq failed like it has because it was restricted with inane Rules of Engagement, and generally used in a way that is appalling. If it was given a real ROE, and used properly, we could have Iraq under U.S. control in under a week, with minimal casualties. After that, it's just a matter of showing the Iranians that our way is better than the alternative.
Theres no reasoning with Islam. If I were Israel, I'd build a doomsday device, and say "Come try and disarm us it will be the last thing you ever do!".
It sounds really good to talk about removing states that have horrible government, but there are unintended consequences like any other governmental policy. Surely our Iraqi escapade should have told us that by now.
@TomStrong08. if we make a policy of eradicating regimes which pose a threat to the united states, it is better than allowing current threats to persist.
maybe future regimes will be more cautious if their people understand that they will have to pay the consequences of their government's actions.
We should repeat our actions in Germany and Japan - destroy every city where our troops are fired on, then shove our constitution down their throats - no voting.
"How can you talk about murdering civilian & children? Bomb em to stone age?" Yup. Either they take responsibility for their government and change it themselves or accept the consequences of our defense against their dictatorships.
"disarm Israel 1st who is more of a threat to peace." Sorry, but the West will not 'submit' to thuggery in the name of 'peace'. So-called 'peace' without liberty is slavery. Defense against thugs is not hate/war mongering - any more than self-defense is murder.
Until Iran has been convinced that a nuclear weapons option will not be tolerated, Iran's leadership will not choose otherwise. This simply requires a person-to-person phone call to the effect that, if Iran does not cease and desist, it will suffer regime change and be under direct administration for decades to come, and not an attempt to win hearts and minds and establish democracy which failed elsewhere at crippling cost to the electorate behind those making the world safe for democracy.

That jewish guy Yaron is an idiot & a fantasist. How can you talk about murdering civilian & children? Bomb em to stone age? To these hate/war mongers i tell them this! Fear the time when the shoe will be on the other foot. Fear that time when the balance will be tipped to the other side. Then surely Justice will come to you. Expect to be treated the way you treat others. Its a beautiful biblical law. Hand for a hand, eye for an eye. Y not disarm Israel 1st who is more of a threat to peace.
