  • do you still have this???

  • how many bolts are holding the engine on 1

  • the 70s wasn't good to that thing

  • what a nice old tractor my grandpa has the same cubcadet internatinal

  • dont run over the camera man

  • Hi. Just to let you know that I have put a link to this video on my Video. "OHV 8Hp-14Hp Tecumseh Engine Part 18" I hope you dont mind. From George in the UK.

  • that thing is so cool,i wish i had one

  • that thing is so cool

  • The original motor was a beast on those old Sears. We have a 1968 model with the original 14 hp Briggs. It sounds pretty bad ass and can pull just about anything.

  • I liked your video very much.

  • that is pretty damn awesome!

  • do y'all still have this one ?

  • That tractor was a mess but other than wiring and exhaust probs seems like a pretty solid tractor. nice find.

  • That would be a good off road tractor

  • ITS ALIVE ......put put put put spoke to soon

  • Ahh, mowing your lawn on a hot 70s day...

  • Are you selling it?

  • if you are so obessed with lawn mowers why dont you move up and start working on compact utilities or row crops? I don't understand your insentive for continusly purchasing lawn mowers and driving them around what small acreage it appears you have.

  • that thing is bad ass

  • i just bought a sears suburban 15,,is there some where i can buy parts or any thing like decals, paint, factory parts. please help. i payed $150 for the tractor running with plow, snow blower, disk, harrow, snow plow, mower deck runs great i even mowed grass with it when i got it home.

  • Are you selling this?

  • TURN THE IDLE DOWN. Your gonna hurt that old engine.

  • i hope u didnt pay over a dollar for that

  • probably one of the best tecumsehs ever made

  • hey were u live and u still have it

  • Real neat tractor and fun video to watch! I own a 68 suburban 12. It is all original and has been mowing my lawn for about 17 years now. I love it the way it is, without being restored! Great old tractors!

  • can u give me you serial number so i can but this transmission

  • this isnt a 4wd is it???

  • Wow, when I was a little kid, I used to rally one of these things around the woods. Tore the deck off, put some quad tires on the back, and welded the diff, and it wouldn't stop for anything.

  • wow the motor sure does bounce around alot ..is that normal?

  • Just the Video I was looking for! John Deere Tractor Manuals for F R E E - *** tractorrepairmanual (dot) org***

  • I had my carb proffessionaly cleaned, new carb solenoid, gas flows great, good fuel filter, clean gas and tank, new fuel pump and gaskets and still no gas getting to my carb. Im at a loss what to do next. I can poor gas in the carb and it will run!

  • That's what I still use to mow with and move trailers and everything else around the house. My grandpa bought it new in early to mid 70s from the Kansas City, Mo sears building and my dad and him put it together. He bought every option available with it too.

  • I still use the '72 version of this tractor. Built tough as nails back then. The 'electronic' ignition quit a few years back, so I modified an '82 Ford car ignition system and module onto this application. These units are well worth restoring and a pleasure to use.

  • @Mytheoryous

Can you give me any details of what engine you fixed was it a Tecumseh 12hp and what ford engine you got the module from? Paul pt109m

  • Tractors from here and back were awesome, they last forever.

  • I'll buy it off of you, how much?

  • Just finished swapping in a Harbor Freight 13 Hp Honda knockoff, Yeah, yeah I know, "Oh the Horror ! The Sacrilage! " (but it runs real sweet , and now I can clear my driveway)

  • @giantgeoff ...is there a video of that tractor with the harbor freight motor?

  • @giantgeoff yeah id love to see it i just bought a virtical HF engine.

  • The wires were for the starter generator that was used on the original Tecumseh motor 12V applied to a Delco RRemy generator created a motor strong enough to turn the the 12 hp one lunger over.

  • nice

  • Nice! Never had any, but looks like old tractors are build better than the new ones. They look cooler too.

  • Needs a straight pipe...and a KOHLER.

  • or a onan

  • illbuy it from you

  • whats under that tarp???

  • found out mine is a tecumseh oh160 not a briggs

  • Comment removed

  • mind if i ask what ya got under that tarp ?

  • I never realised they made OHV engines that long ago, ive never seen one that old, did briggs make them that long ago too?

  • Yeah the engine on this was replaced, it's from 1979. I think in the very late '70s Tecumseh started making OHV engines, but I don't think Briggs made them until the late 1980's with the introduction of the Vanguard series.

  • i never even saw a briggs OHV older than mine and its a 1999. and ive worked on lots of engines. but it kinda makes me wonder, why, when they made them that long ago, then went to flatheads and now their all back to being ohvs again. doesnt really make sense

  • Comment removed

  • flat heads are cheaper and easier to make. thats probabbly why.

  • @LynolsOffice this look like my sear but mine has a 16 hp briggs single cast iron but same type of frame

  • @LynolsOffice Briggs make OHV engines in the 20s believe it or not

  • @LynolsOffice like superKONR said briggs made ohv engines in the 20s, they were little washing machine motors

  • @LynolsOffice The first engines were OHV. Look up 1928 Briggs PB, theyre all OHV.

  • nice man ive recently got the same tractor you have only in yellow and it has alot of work its got a bunch of oil all over the engine alot of its rusted and it was once in a giant junk pile the owner was nice enough to get it out for me the only terrible thing is that the output shaft for the motor is stuck bad

  • that thing started up real quick amazing those old sears's are my favorite

  • You wanna get rid of some of those deck in the background?

  • looks like a 14 or 16 with the OHV. i thought that the 12 was a flat head.

  • I checked the numbers on the engine when we got it, it's a 12hp for sure. I've seen a few. It's one of Tecumseh's first large OHV motors. I was hoping it was a bigger one too.

  • I just bought a 1966 suburban 12hp for a hundred bucks, and in good original shape! I can cut my lawn in 10 minutes with a push mower, and all my friends say "What do you need that for?", they just don't understand! lol

  • finally, a kinsman

  • you should make another video of this lynol!!! this tractor is like the most awsome one you have!!! most rugged anyways!!!

  • is this the same tractor that was in the december 07' tractorland update? or is this a new one. if so do you still have it?

  • No, this tractor is a different one. The one in that Dec '07 video is the late '60s Sears Super 12, it's in MUCH better shape.

  • that's an awesome classic tractor! really does look well built and cool to drive. the front steering and suspension looks better than new tractors. love the classic SEARS logo on the steering wheel.

  • is it missing a few mounting bolts? i found and old tractor lke that near me, i want it because of the maual tranny but my parents dont want anything els in the shop.

  • No it's not missing mounting bolts, some idiot who put this replacement motor on put it on huge rubber dampers to reduce vibrations, causing it to shake around like crazy.

  • looks like it vibrates more with that rocking motion

  • do you still have this tractor or has it been sold

  • Still have it. It's a keeper.

  • how do you jump one of those ?

  • tecumseh makes the best engines

  • Fuck tecumseh i like my briggs engine

  • damn strait briggs i the small engine dynasty

  • they sure dont make then like they used too, these days tractors are made so poorly and with alot of cheap matereals, the old tractors are more reliable and were built strong

  • I got to get a 1969 one of those. sears used to make f-ing good tractors.

  • does yours get really loud when on full throttle?

  • yeah, I kind of thought that. the kill wire has been disconnected, and I will try a few more tricks, we'll see. where can I get another coil? hard to find on Ebay. did you ever fix your ss12? could I just pull the old coil off of the stator plate and stick some other coil on there? btw help and advice is greatly appreciated. I think I sub'd your channel.

  • Oh yeah, I found a coil for the SS12 on eBay for about $65.

  • No, but it looks like somebody put in a separate solenoid and modified the wiring a bit. I've got the early style engine with the starter/generator combination, and I can get it to crank, but I can't get a spark. Any suggestions on that??? I always thought nothing could go wrong on a solid state ignition. I hope my coil's not bad.

  • When we got our Sears Super 12, it had been sitting for about 15 years and we found the solid state coil had died, so I wouldn't be surprised if yours died. Make sure you disconnect the kill wire, and if your still not getting spark you probably need a new coil.

  • I just got one today and my electrical system is wierd too. It looks like some mice thought the space between the engine and dash board would make a good home and that some of the wires looked tasty. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do or where to start???

  • Hmmmm.... yeah these old tractor wiring systems are a lot different than new ones. Everything runs through the ignition switch, there's no separate solenoid. Are all your wires missing?

  • what did you spray in it? lol

  • nice does that teccy have solid state ignition? I know briggs switched over in about '82 but what year did tecumseh start using solid state???

  • Yeah, it's solid state alright. Tecumseh started using it back in the 60's! But it was only on certain Tecumseh engines up till the 1980's when they completely switched over.

  • Did a "Green Acres" soundtrack come with it? Neat old toy.

  • the thing you thought was a fuse looks like a starter and the goo in the carb i think is old grease

  • There was a fuse missing at those two metal connectors that I pointed to. It's a weird hard to find fuse. One of my other 1960's Sears tractor had it. And that goo was old gas. I've seen that before, if gas gets old enough it gets that way, it's gross!

  • thats discusting!

  • 1:32-lol! Did you see that engine shake when he started it?!?!

  • lol look at the thing shake when you start up. cool mower

  • easy does it with that starting fluid

  • wish i had you email i have some questions

  • Just send me a personal message through YouTube. Glad to help if I can. These tractors are great!

  • i need the carb off that i just got one gave to me and the carb is jacked

  • needs a new silanoid

  • Put a little oil on the starters shaft, that seemed to take care of it. I guess it had been sitting for a while, got rusty.

  • not solenoid because if it was bad then it wouldn't turn over

  • no it doesn't. the starter didn't catch because he didn't wait for it to fully stop before trying to restart it. thats normal.

  • You should keep this thing. it reminds me of the older cub cadets, not the shitty newer ones they make now. im talking about a 1960-62 cub cadet, now those are a garden tractor!

  • got my suburban running yesterday, sounds so good. I have a vid. but i love how when you say 'ITS ALIVE" like right after you said it, it shuts down =p

  • I can tell that this is no ordinary lawn tractor, it's a garden tractor because it has all the features of a garden tractor

  • i have almost the same tractor, mine is a 15 horse sears garden tractor but the body and hood is almost exactly the same

  • LOL look at that thing shake when you start it!!!

  • Yeah, It shakes like that because the idiot who put this engine on put it on huge rubber mounts!

  • did u take any of that crap off

  • I fixed the electrical and muffler, that's about it. This summer I think I'm going to take those ridiculous rubber mounts out, that's why the engine shakes so much, someone added those in.

  • great tractor though bet that will last longer than most of the new ones

  • Oh it has and will probably last another 20 years.

  • I'm not a tecky guy, but man that mower is totally awesome, I want one, but they are impossible to find in Texas. Those older Tecumseh motors will run forever though.

  • I have a video of my sears suburban under Rare lawn tractor on my profile, but i cant find the serial number on my ss16? where is it?

  • The tractor's serial number on my Sears Suburban and Super 12 is located on a metal tag that's right under the shifter. (Look at my video here at 1:03 you see that metal rectangle below the shifter? that's it)

  • they shure as hell dont make them like they use to.

  • i have a craftsman II 18 hp twin engine what would the year be on that... and im new at working on these so would that be a good one to have

  • That could be anywhere between mid '80s and mid '90s. If it has a Briggs & Stratton engine, look at the first two digits in the number that says "CODE" next to "MODEL" and "TYPE". Stamped on the sheet metal on the outside of the engine, probably by the spark plug. The first two digits in the code are the year, the next two digits and the month, and the two after that are the day. Example 880612 would indicate 06/12/88. Get it?

  • well i checked it and the only number i found was called spec number it was 57529 do you think it is that old

  • Hell no it's not that old! What brand motor is on it?

  • How much is one of these worth? I have a 68 suburban with a 3 point hitch and a few plows with it.

  • The 3-point hitch alone is worth $130. Plows for it are worth between $100 -$200. And the tractor itself if it's in good shape could be worth as much as $400

  • it depends on where you live and what the condition of the items are. check out simular items on ebay.

thats where I get parts for my ss12

  • would you sell the engine for 50?

  • Are you kidding me?? That engine is worth like $200 - $300 Running good which it is.

  • do you want to sell it?

  • I had one of these tractors. The empty plug you found at the beginning of the video was for a starter / generator. The engine started with a belt that was connected to the flywheel via a large belt pulley. This also acted like a generator when the engine was running. It also came with a Briggs and Stratton single cylinder 12 hp engine.

  • Yeah my 60's Sears Super 12 has a 12hp Tecumseh with a starter/generator, this tractor originally had the exact same thing. When I got this, I recognized the bracket for the starter/generator. You can see it right below the gas tank. It's all scratched up where the bolt would have gone, so I know it did have one.

  • Why is it that some tractors I've seen, including this one, have the head facing sideways instead of vertically or horizontally? Is that because they've been set up as a chain drive?

  • It's not chain drive, it's a belt drive. Most older tractors were setup this way, I guess because it was so simple to hook mower decks or snow throwers, etc. up to the pulley.

  • That is one of the coolest tractors I have ever seen! The front grill looks like General Grievous from Star Wars III. I wish I had one!

  • check out my video old garden tractor. it has the same motor as yours does.i didnt know what the engine was until i saw your video.

  • is 75 dallors worth a 1973 roper thate is problr a 4 on a scale of one to ten.the guy sas it runs but who knows he probly just wants money for beer.

  • Yeah, I'd say that it's worth it. Those old Ropers are built like tanks!

  • ok thanks.

  • did sears make roper cause that looks like a roper.if i was u i would put a plow on that.

  • Sears tractors were made by Roper. Technically, they still are; Roper became American Yard Products in the late 80's and then was bought by Electrolux and then that became Husqvarna in 2006, and Husqvarna makes Sears' tractors now.

  • plzzzz ill give u $300.00 for it

  • Like the tractor. I have two of them currently I worked mine to death to the point that I am having trouble with the electrical system Same motor as yours though only a 16 horse

  • Did u sell that tracter if not i will give u $150.00 for it please reply

  • Thanks for the offer, but I think we're keeping this one!

  • Hi what do u do with all of ur tractors do u fix them up an sell them how do u get started on a buisness like that

  • We do fix them up and sell them. Mostly on eBay.

  • i can say that these sears are great tractors and the only sears i would rate among johndeer, cubcadet and a few others.i had a ss-12hp.with the industrial bearings in the motor.8-speed is nice.sold it to my cousin and among all his toys,he will not part with it.

  • nice tractor, back when tecumsehs werent buckets of shit :)

  • lol that sears sounds like my 1982 honda 50cc dirt bike when the throttle is wide open,

  • looks like almost identicle to my grandpas 1972 sears ss15 n yea that ie definately a replacement engine

  • @ 1:45, "it's alive!! like, 2 seconds later, it dies, "no, it's not"

  • Suburban lover, have one myself. Hard to find them where I live. Heard the parts are hard to find. Electrical parts are even harder. North Carolina residence. I make trail hoppers out of them... Fun!! My son would like to find one local if you have any connections comment me back please.

  • nice i got a 70's suburban too with a front end load (hydrolic)

  • You've got the hydraulic bucket? you lucky bastard!

  • might possibly sell but, i think your pretty far from me

  • Yeah I'm in the US. Some guy around here has a Sears Suburban 14hp for sale with a bucket he wants $2,500!!!

  • yeah they sure are expensive

  • That depends on who you talk to. The new engines have nice features you don't find on old engines though... I think the real problem is a lot of mowers are getting to damn complicated, so as soon as you get one problem fixed you have a long list still waiting for you.

It also depends on what you mean by old. I am a 1990+ John Deere walk behind that runs pretty well.

  • old engines are better then new ones iv got a junk lawn mower from 2004 with hardly any compression and is almost impossible to start with out starting fluid and iv got a 1 from like 1970 witch still runs perfect

  • LOL I didnt knew sears mande GMC's lol just kidding

  • i want that tractor.. the motor looks a little loose thoo, but it is a nice machine.

  • It's not actually loose. It wobbles because the idiot who put this engine on put it on huge rubber mounts.

  • o alrite

  • You have a small engine business or is this a hobby? Nice job on getting it to run!

  • Just a hobby. We got into to it fixing up tractors and selling them in the spring, then we just started to collect ones that we liked.

  • what is next to the sears suburban

  • On the right a Craftsman LT1000, on the left a Nissan Altima.

  • Yea man, ur right. They dont make em like they used to!

  • iv got a 1969 craftsman but its got a 16hp tecumseh, and it dont wobble like a bowl of jello.and my trans sticks like that to ya just got to hit it.put it in third hi and pop the cluch i garutee it will catwalk

  • It wobbles because the idiot who put this engine on put it on huge rubber mounts. I've got to take them out because the motor moves around so much it causes the belt to slip. Our Super 12 does that thing with the trans too, doing like you said always works.

  • where did u get the tractor

  • yo nice tractor r u willing to sell the muffler

  • do you have a deck on that

  • Not on it, but i've got one somewhere. 3 blade 50"

  • He did not check if the gas was good.

  • I did before I started. It smelled good and looked clear but I never thought about the possibility of water being in it. The gas cap apparently had a hole in it!

  • yo i want that muffler thats on that sweet tractor

  • I wonder why they stopped using them on tractors.

  • holly hell it started

  • do u havs eny vids of them???

  • Thanks. The 18/6 twin is a BEAST! I have an old Sears Super 12 in storage I'll be taking out for the summer soon, and next weekend I've got an old Roper RT-10 (same as the Sears Custom 10-XL) that I'm going to try to get running.
