  • Cheating, spend 35 more minutes and do the who;e thing properly.

  • Ohh the Swing Plate Assembly Plague. Replacement of just the black gear to me is just a band aid fix, the new black gear will eventually wear itself out prematurely, I have ordered a metal swingplate gear to replace the plastic metal gear, along with the standard service to fix its failing sensor that is giving my 4300 the 13.20.00 error.

  • If the white gear isn't damaged or chipped this method works. If it is damaged, you will have to replace the whole assembly. I hear there is a metal gear version of the assembly that someone made that will eliminate that.

  • I used to do it that way but eventually the whole part needs to be replaced.

  • Like we were told as kids - do it right or don't do it at all. In this case you should let someone else do it, the right way

  • @rhblakeman Agreed.

  • The problem replacing just the gear is that the second gear in the assembly is going to fail, therefore you will after eventully replace the whole swing plate assy.

  • @tezzawoza I agree Terra - the white gear INSIDE fails more than the black gear. Doing just a gear is a BS cop out and cheats the customer. Replace the WHOLE swingplate or tel them to go to a shop that will replace the whole plate assy.

  • @tezzawoza Yes thats true, replacing the entire assembly and fuser gear is wise than just replacing the black gear.

  • I second what farouk21st said.... much easier idea than stripping the machine down.

    Thanks a lot

  • @MrDangleebles Adding sawdust to the gear lube in a manual trans is easier than tearing down the trans to rebuild it too and does help some problems but it isn't right and this halfassed gear swap isn't right either. Swingplate is like $5 to obtain as an assembly, why put in a $3 gear only and risk breakdown in a short time?

  • Thank you very much.

very easy to follow rather than taking all the printer apart to replace the whole assembly as descriped by HP.

    thanks again.

  • @farouk21st HP's way is the right way not the halfassed way to do it. You will be replacing the whole assy in a short period of time with this method.
