Daymn!!! That was amazing. You're almost got this close to getting hit by raiden's torpedo, but you reacted quickly with a basic kick to foil his specials before giving him a toasty!
Music is pretty awesome too, voices are sometimes better too (less muffled than SNES at least, both are a fair bit cut-down . . . both better than the terrible SNES/Genesis SFII voices). Music is better than the arcade for sure. ;) (similar sound hardware, but Matt Furniss did a MUCH better job than Midway)
Higher resolution too, though more color limits. (music is the best part IMO, great use of synth and percussion samples, like all of Furniss's stuff ;))

@gillyguy ABBACAB is the blood code. do it at the start screen where it has the text. the Genesis version isnt so good actually.. there was no (GOOD) MK1 port sadly... so the only way to really enjoy MK1 is to buy it on one of the Midway collections.

Yes, the Genesis had inferior graphics, but it was able to manage a lot better by making the music a bit more memorable and easier to listen to. It had better controls and of course, the Fatalities. I've played both versions on real consoles and I don't really favor neither company over the other. Overall though, it's just a game. Just enjoy this dood's run through the game.

Unbiased, I have played the SNES and Genesis versions of MK1 and MKII, and I can say without a doubt that the Genesis despite its lower graphical capability and overall apparent 'inferiority' to the SNES- has the better versions of Mortal Kombat hands down.
Don't even get me started on the sound quality, you can hardly call ANYTHING that the SNES cranks out as music. More like pain on the ears.
The game plays closer to the arcade than the SNES does, which makes it the better of the two, unless superior graphics mean more to you than authentic gameplay.

Combo's. Hit priorities, Damage, Recovery and Gravity are all really close to the final arcade revision. The SNES has none of these advantages.

Most ports came out better on the Sega systems.
BUT there are a few exceptions.
However for me these two ports are on a par.
Let's compare honestly.
Visual: Snes is more colorful and is smoother. MD version has better contrast, is sharper, and had blood.
Audio: Snes is clearer, but lacks punch. MD version is scratchy, but is more moody/dark.
Controls: Snes version is pretty tight. MD less so with 3 buttons. With 6 buttons it's fine.
Winner? Both.

well it's people like you in the US that are too fat and lazy to do any real fucking work, see, here in the UK we like to make people better by letting them discover things for themselves. I'm not going to give you a goddamn thing, as I already told you how to gain the information so dear to you, I have a 360, PC, PS2, PS1, Genesis, Nomad, C64, NGPC, DS, PSP, Gamecube and a Wii. The C64 was HUGE in europe, and had superior home ports of many arcade classics, and many original classic games of it's own.
you can blame America for the Nomad fail, as the UK didn't get one, still, it does it's job.
NGPC rocks, and has the best handheld version of Sonic ever.

God this music is horrible. The Sega CD version rapes the mess out of this version, and I don't really think the Sega CD version is that good compared to the SNES which is near Arcade perfect in looks minus the blood.

yeah but the music and sound in most SEGA games (Except Sonic) sucked. I mean most of the time it soundedl ike an awful mess of noise and the music sounded like electronic sound trying to pass up for music.

Eh, I really like the music in this version. It has a real strong feel to it. The SNES version justisn't fun for whatever eason.
Now if this were MK1, then yeah, the Genny version is a joke compared to the SNES version even with it's lack of blood.

It's cool, mostly just rabid SNES fanboys who probably sleep with Mario plushies at night.
Unbiased, I have played the SNES and Genesis versions of MK1 and MKII, and I can say without a doubt that the Genesis despite its lower graphical capability and overall apparent 'inferiority' to the SNES- has the better versions of Mortal Kombat hands down.
Don't even get me started on the sound quality, you can hardly call ANYTHING that the SNES cranks out as music. More like pain on the ears.

As I've said what seems like a million times, in terms of gameplay, tiers, hit priorities, Kombo's and execution, the genesis is a lot closer than the snes, as it's a DIRECT PORT.
