I AM dyslexic BUT I would never put myself in the position of representing my electorate if I could not at least read my presentation BEFORE I had to deliver it before Parliament. This is bad form and embarrassing to him as well as his supporters!!
This guy is an idiot and it's got nothing to do with his speech.
He used to be a cop and he reckons Australian's shouldn't own guns. I guess it was okay for him to carry a gun for 14 years, but the rest of us can't be trusted.
We pay this guy to make laws in the highest public body in the land? What's wrong with the country? This guy represents the people of La Trope? Doesn't say much for them.
Regardless of his agenda or honesty, the house should be commended for their patience, and warmth towards someone who is obviously nervous and stumblimg with his words under stress.
This man gives us all hope of one day sitting in this house.... but is also proof of the fact that we, as a nation, value community leaders, not just dramatists, as our members of parliament. I guess what I'm trying to say is, this exemplifies the Australian notion of a 'Fair Go' for all.
Cocks didnt even live in the electorate, prior to labor dumping their initial candidate over the phone for him at the last minute. Unlike Jase who'd been an active member of our community for more than 30 years, where he'd served as a police officer and in Counter Terrorism. As for being in Greenpeace, so what? Sure they suck but at least being a union boss wasn't a prerequisite to run for the LIBERAL party, where you're allowed to think freely, regardless of your past affiliations.
Lay off Wood. He's a decent bloke and has represented LaTrobe well. Labor's Rodney Cocks was a liar, all style, no substance - typical of the Rudd team, introducing himself as "a father with a mortgage" when in reality he had not even a wife nor kids and then used his involvment in the clean up after the Bali bomb to grab votes. Stop bagging him for how he delivers his speech and pay attention to SUBSTANCE.
So Jason Wood has a problem reading - he's probably dyslexic - so what? The content of the speech was fine. All the people posting here need to get a life.
Hahaha - so did I. However he is a nice bloke and dedicated to the people of LaTrobe of all persuasions. I don't think I'd do any better getting up and having to deliver a speech. Pollies of both sides fluff their maiden speeches because of the distractions and nerves.
When Robert Ray retired he said that the our adversarial system of Government was preferable to the U.S. system because it limits opportunities for corruption. However, Surely this speech is evidence that the adversarial system has serious short comings, because it allows numb nuts like Wood to gain a seat in parliament. If our system removed the executive from the legislature, party discipline would come to an end, and MPs would at a minimum require the ability to make speeches that made sense.
I take it this aussie guy does not wrassle gators and kangaroos ?
What he means to say:

@SuperBrad.
Actually, he holds his seat on a two-party preferred majority of less than 1%. It's quite possible he'll lose this year.

Wow!! He must be in one hell of a safe Liberal seat!

Isn't it typical that the only speech we hear on this nationally important issue is given to the nation like this.
No one is listening to the message, because the delivery is so poor.
Perhaps that was the plan in the first place.

You Liberals realy need to get a new line.
Yes, there are union bosses in the ALP. There are also successful businesspeople in the Liberals too. Birds of a feather...

he only got elected because he had that clever slogan "the people of LaTrobe would be better with cocks out!"
