  • Well, Russel and Ron were so cool, they didn't need that wanker of a guitar player pretending anyone cared about him! Still, spanking tune! Love Sparks!

  • grrrrrrrrrrr8 trak

  • russell looks like the "mime is money" waiter from spinal tap

  • Or the piano player from "It's A Living". Points if anyone remembers that. :)

  • I'm a 39 year old music fan and only knew these guys as the artists who sang Cool Places. Six weeks ago I bought Kimono My House and it's been off to the races. I now own all their albums and am eagerly waiting for Exotic Creatures From The Deep--their new disc--in the mail.

  • God I love it!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeh its cool innit

  • Generation 80 was a belgian television programme :o)

  • man ron is all over the place on the keyboard here...people don't realize how much is playing and live performance style influenced so many keyboardists..even today! Roddy Bottom from faith no more had a similar live playing style, so does the touring keyboardist from NIN when I saw them..plus basically all the new wave and emo keyboardists out there

  • Sparks is the best band ever

  • Agreed, pal o' mine.

  • it could be a good idea: Ron could play the bad guy in the next James Bond ??

  • are you sure the guy on keyboards looks just like this one same gimic dead pan stiff playing keyboards

  • It was paul Mccartney doing a bad impression of Ron Mael, Sparks' keyboaard player and genius songwriter.

  • Guess every long term fan has his own favorite Sparks 'era' of their music; this one absolutely rates in my TOP 3 of 'em (eras).

  • ...and best of all they haven't lost an ounce of talent.

  • It looks painful, what Ron's doing in 1:57.. What a great song! And Russell's so cute in this video.. I'm just overwhelmed right now with the amazingness of this song. And yes, amazingness is a word, if not, I just invented it. It describes Sparks.

  • the guy on keyboards he played with paul mcartney doing the same weird faces

  • I'm afraid the guy on keyboards in the "coming up" video was the Walrus.

  • walrus? walrus's cant play keyboards unless they live at seaworld (haha)

  • AHHH I'm in LOVE - These guys are AMAZING! :)

  • do i look so knowing and old and wise. maybe it's those dacron ties. classic!

  • Forget the C cup- and wear a D cup...

    No matter what!!!

  • Actually, it's: Keep that mystique up and wear a D cup no matter what.

  • "Soon you will lose ALL YOUR ZITS, tight sweatERS NO LONGER FIT!"

Fucking ace. When i'm alone in the house, I like to dance like Russell Mael to this song.

  • These are my favorite Sparks songs from my favorite era. Great lyrics but never taking themselves too serious. Now if they ever made a video for Sherlock Holmes I would be ectastic!

  • even for sparks this performance is ott. hilarious

  • I said this before..... I saw SPARKS over ten times in L.A.

  • I just like the humorous lyrics in most of their songs. This is classic. Seems silly now.

  • i dunno. this was the song that really showed me how great they were.

    ron is unbeatable here.

  • Has Mika completely ripped off Russell Mael or what? "Live Today" is a real rip off of this track. Had forgotten about that!

Brilliant band - totally underrated and very ahead of their time.

  • Happy 60th Ron!

  • I'm surprised some Sparks fans don't like this period. I picked up "Whomp That Sucker" and "Angst In My Pants" on vinyl years ago and they're brilliant albums.

This isn't my favourite song of theirs but the lyrics are great. "Always wear a D-cup" :D

  • I agree. Loved "Whomp That Sucker". I think "The Willies" is completely underrated.

  • Oh man I love THE WILLIES! TIPS FOR TEENS and THE WILLIES make "Whomp That Sucker"... all the songs were great but those 2 are genius!

  • excellent video

  • Ron looked great during this period. A true original. And a great song, too.

  • génération 80 was not french tv, but a belgian tv show from rtbf

  • sounds like Queen + ELO with a little Sweet or Darkness thrown in

  • more like the other way around

  • don't eat no curry before a very important date! what other band give you lyrics like these?

  • The lyrics are incredible, as usual. I, as a teen, get what he's saying, ha ha, oohhh...

    *sigh*

  • sparks is the best band ever

    just listen, that's the evidence!

  • Whomp that sucker

  • what a step in the way back machine still a classic

  • I can't get this song outta my head!

  • Wow,reliving my misspent youth...I actually saw them live twice during this era....

  • Sparks weren't as weird as they were in the seventies, but still boasted amazing melodies and lyrics. Good stuff.

  • Crazy! I love CRAZY|:@ ! love the lyrics. Ummm! SPARKS! The T-REX of REALITY! (or delusional samsaric overload) just love em'

  • Advice I've used on many occasions. Thanks Russell!

  • Not from a French TV but from The belgian french-speaking RTBF1 and the great Generation 80.

  • Man this is an awesome fucking song!

  • Most people hate this period of Sparks...I still LOVE this song

  • Ron pulls some great faces on this one!

  • HIT ME, RUSSELL!!!! x betty

  • I used those "tips" and I still like the song 30 years later.

  • oh, i can't watch!

  • oh boy, haha
