Top Shelf still...1982, my first ever concert. My gone but not forgotten mom gave me the green light to kick it with 2 of my aces as I was a senior in high school we,were 2 weeks off of winning the state championship in hoops and college was on the horizon. Life was a bit more innocent at the time and you could actually see and hear the band. Good music is just that as it transcends time. I would not trade the journey for anything!
"De gustos y colores no han escrito los autores"...para mi la mas extraordinaria canción de los Kool & The Gang...y James, un E.T. que puede hacer graves y agudos increibles con esa increible voz!
juste exceptionnelle ! la vérité est là : désormais, il n'existe plus ce type de tube bien malheureusement... KATG était et reste précurseur dans le groove.. La disco et la funk un groupe de légende ! pour toujours dans mes favoris ce groupe !!!!
...the reason to that being that he was already in an other funk group in the seventies(produced by his brothers,however...); group which split up by the late 1970s : I guess that was the reason why he could join his brothers as a member in Kool and The Gang, during but a few years...then, he left again Kool and The Gang in the early 1980s, to join an other funk group (=around 1982...)
At first, I did not know who were the two keyboardists, but now I know : apparently, it seems it is Earl Toon Jr. (left in late 1980/early 1981) , the other (in the background) would be the third Bell brother (Kool's and Ronald's brother); Kevin Bell (later took the name "Amir Bayyan" , while he converted to Islam, along with his siblings...); he -too- never stayed very long in his brother's group, since he also left by late 1981...
@elpajaro21 Songs today are only about sex and prostitution wheras the songs support and encourage prostitution. I really think that rape would've decreased if youth stopped listening to the new shit.
I can't believe that James J.T. Taylor was just a schoolteacher...personnally -even though I like Kool and The Gang- I would have prefered to remain a scoolteacher than become a performer; cause even though you could have fun once you became famous (a reality back in the days much more than nowadays...) the music/entertainment business remained a arsh and hasardous job... no way : I would go for the schoolteacher post...!
That one two was a promotionnal video for the song; cause it sounds exactly like the album version, in every detail; and you notice some details taht accounts for that, like : when you here the cymbal being hit three times, for instance, you can see that the drummer -in the background- doesn't hit the cymbals at that particular moment, but rather continues playing on the toms...etc... it's like they didn't care much making it real, and they knew that it was just a promotionnal video for the song
Should have been a bigger hit---its only fault was following a worldwide party smash like "Celebration"---terrible timing by Polygram Records...still a "lost favorite" for KATG fans...
Yes, totally agree. You notice it, and it's very rare. At that time it was the late Kool and Gang's master guitarist: Mister Charles Smith. He died in june 2006. he was one of the most gifted and influential musician in jazz-funk history. His ability in several music styles was admitted by many musicians all around the world. R.I.P Mister Charles Smith.
Such an under-rated gem of a song.
