Any discussion of this poem should hinge on whether it is fact or fiction. As it has been established beyond reasonable doubt that these sonnets are addressed to the Earl of Southampton, how did a man in his 20's arrive at the feeling he was in the twilight of his life? Why would he address poems to someone only 9 years his junior in such a fashion? Indeed, it defies logic. The poem's intent, and its authenticity as being reality based, is only solved from the oxfordian position.
