I want to thank you armysabre for one of the BEST uploads on ALL of youtube.
this should be required viewing for ALL "modern democrates" and esp President Barack Obama. then maybe they would be reminded that the mission of their party is to fight FOR working people and the underprivileged and NOT be "Republican Light".
I recently viewed Laurence Fishburne's one man play "Thurgood". was decent acting BUT nothing close to James Whitmore as Will Rogers or Harry Truman
ArmySaber: Thanks so much for taking the time to post Mr. James Whitmore’s masterful performance in the portrayal of President Truman. I remember sitting on the floor watching this with my parents back in the ‘70’s when I was a kid. I really appreciate being able to see this again as an adult. Now it seems quite apropos to quote a line from the play “It is what you learn after you know it all that really counts.” Thanks again for sharing this timeless work of art, history, and inspiration.
Its been over 30 yrs since I watched this in my parents livingroom. I've admired Mr Truman as our greatest president since then. His brutal honesty and whit is a blend of Mark Twain and Will Rogers. Thank you for posting and maybe more history and political science students will draw some wisdom from this.
Many thanks for posting this. I bought the record of this show at a yard sale many years ago and really enjoyed it. But I had never seen the video until today.
what a brilliant actor. The work it must have taken to learn the dialoge and mannerisms. I do not believe there are many actors with that kind of dedication today. If there are I wish we could see them.
Agreed, Truman has always taken the rap for the bomb, but he was the most down to earth and honest man ever to be president, James Whitmore is, as always wonderful, thank you for posting it.
I'm so glad you posted this! there's nothing like the collected wisdom of Harry Truman get get a person's spirits up.
I hope they will release this on dvd, because it would be a damn fine addition to anybody's collection. In the meantime though, thanks a million for sharing!
I saw this in the movie theater when it was released. Thank you for posting this. I, like the Capt., have wanted to see this for over thirty years. Thanks again.
Since this show was first performed during the Nixon presidency I wonder how old "Tricky Dick" took those comments made in the show. It was probably an unpleasant memory!

Someone once told Truman's father that his son was just about the finest young man he'd ever met, "from the navel out and in every direction."
Thank you; Harry Truman was a real human being.

People like Truman and Whitmore are not made anymore. Sad for us.

No Problem, Glad you enjoyed it. I remember seeing this in 1975 the year it came out. Whitmore was great in getting Truman down to a "T"

@lorin42 I think this came out in 1975, a year after Nixon resigned.
