As a guitarist steeped in Hendrix type Blues, I was fortunate enough to not only see his show last year but also to meet him, get a picture with him, and shake the very same hand that once shook hands with Robert Johnson. I'd like to thank Michael Frank for allowing that to happen for me.
I think this is some on the best harp playing i ever heard . The the reason he's watching Honeyboy in the video is because he's trying not to step on Honeyboy"s lyrics that's what a humble man does he's there to make his teacher sound good not be errogant. It would be my dream to meet Honeyboy and Michael Frank there my favorite musicians in the world. Rusty Bergandine
hello my name is les copeland.i was fortunate enough to go on tour with honeyboy and michael in europe last month for two weeks.we all helped one another and made some fine music.everyone played well.honeyboy is an amazing musician.its a hard job!thank you michael, thank you honeyboy.
The harp player is some nobody who latched onto Honeyboy and somehow became his manager. He SUCKS BAD, and also was a real putz to me once. He also goads Honeyboy into telling stories, which is a waste of time after a couple of them. I came to listen to funky falling apart blues by a 90-year-old, not to listen to unintelligible stories or hear some fuzzy-headed white boy step all over the place. Bless Honeyboy for being alive and playing, but the wart needs to back off and let him do his thing.
Agreed - I had the pleasure of seeing Honeyboy in Birkenhead in 2008 aged 93 and christ I wanted to ram that harp down his fricken throat. Not so much the quality of playing cos he's not so bad - just doesn't know when to shut fook up!!!!
Saw him last week on his UK tour. Still cutting it at 93 years old. On stage for 90 minutes - really cutting it....then signed posters and CDs for adoring fans. LEGEND!!!!!!By the way, the harp player is his manager!
I saw Honey Boy a few years back in the Uk in a small club.. to be honest I didn't think he'd still be around .. he was brilliant and I got him to sign the LP I bought from him....
I saw Honeyboy in Toledo about a week before this video and he was phenomenal live, I was fortunate enough to meet him and have him sign my guitar. He is trully a,living legend.
I can't believe he's still kickin', you should also read Alan Lomax's The Land Where the Blues Began, an amazing book that will take you back to the 1940's delta
David "Honeyboy" Edwards may well be the last living Bluesman that knew and played with Robert Johnson. Read his book, "The World Don't Owe Me Nothing!" a great Bio that sheds cool insights into this world.
One of my favorite books. He plays here, in Chicago, quite often. I'm looking forward to his birthday show this summer. I've been to his b-day show the past 3 years.
If that harp player did that to one of my songs, I'd kick him offstage and not pay him for the gig. Talk about unprofessional...
