A 3rd round pick this year is = to a 2nd round pick of equal value next year.  That's the NFL Value Chart. The 6th pick in the 3rd round this year is worth more than a late 2nd round pick next year. It's the reason other picks were involved. Hester will be helping the Chargers a year before the Patriots even exercise the Chargers' pick next year. It wasn't a bad trade. The only question is whether Hester deserved to be drafted with that pick. I think he was, but it remains to be seen.

I thought the same thing. A second rd next year is steep, but I also worried last year when we jumped up to get Weddle last year...and look how that turned out! I know it's human nature to be skeptical, but I think until he proves me wrong, we may just have to give A.J. the benefit of the doubt - and hope we're not proven wrong.
