  • Wow, when you let off the horn it sounded like a plane slowly flying away!

  • this horn should be named thunder muscle

  • How many decibels? 160?

  • "COME ON YOU OLD WOMAN, THE LIGHT IS GREEN AND YOU ARE STILL CROSSING!" "What can I do to make her move faster...?"

  • This horn is perfect for deaf drivers!

  • Wow, you can so easily hear the harmonics echoing. That's amazing.

  • Really curious about sound pressure. How much Db?

  • this ain't a train horn, or a ship horn.. its a NASA horn!

  • how many decibles????

  • i need one of them to piss the crappy nabers off with

  • The horn is an exponential horn with a rectangular cross-section. That is about all it has in common with the horn used on the Thunderbolt sirens. To produce a high-intensity signal using compressed air, you have to use a horn to convert the high-velocity, low-pressure chopped air stream into a low-velocity, high-pressure air stream to match the acoustic impedance of the surrounding air. Without the horn, you'd hear a "pfffft" sound.

  • Powerful.

  • imagine two individuals having sex and is on near climax when you suddenly blow that horn. LOL!

  • that was bloody awesome love the eko to

  • when someone beeps at you... just open the trunk

  • Federal signal thunderbolt on drugs !!!

  • Thanks for not being the only geek/nerd on the internet BIGMIKE.

That was awesome. (thumbs up + favorite)

  • Listen to that echo

  • its from NASA

  • I am impressed...most people dont get the whole resonant thing. I have wanted to replicate Teslas frequency generator to experiment with resonance..some crazy stuff

  • isn't that the horn from a thunderbolt?

  • @Atmosfear1337 , For the 100'th time ..No... This was specially made for NASA, a thunderbolt projector is half the size of this horn. This horn is over 7 feet tall.

  • sir I will give you a blank check with a signature fill in the amount and I will pay it...

  • FUS RO DAH!

  • How many dB's does it produce at 500 psi from one meter?

    Cheers and thanks

    Samuli

  • Where can I get one? I will buy 2 and put one in my house and one in my car.

  • @Saikano2012 ,Sorry, I could not answer that. This is the only known piece outside of NASA' test chamber. I paid $6,000 usd not including shipping

  • That reverb is absolutely incredible.

  • LOVE that its in the back of a MINIVAN! Drive around with ear defenders on and OH the possibilities in traffic!!

  • @Jakeyboyshow thats a small car not a mini van

  • @MrComputereviews uhhh....try again.

    it's a Scion xB

  • Awesome

  • Awesome :-)

  • Oh shit, very loud horn, so awesome :-)

  • it hurts me on my computer

  • If this thing cracked walls why didn't it crack the car's windows?

  • @noname69690 , To crack or shatter glass you must match the glass resonance frequency plus you need to produce about 140dB of that resonance frequency facing the glass directly. The resonance frequency of glass also varies, that's determined by the quality of the glass itself, its thickness, shape, temperature, etc.,.

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL Thanks for the response. That's some nice echo.. Do we know how many deciBels is that?

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL also, most cars feature saftey glass nowadays

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL We got a badass over here!!!

  • Now thats a sound system! :D

  • Could probably use that to propel that car if you ran out of gas...

  • how many decibels?

  • Cool horn. I want some of that

  • SPL@1m?! Air tank volume?

  • SPL@1m?!

  • thats fn loud and cool

  • Love that long reverb after the horn finished sounding; recorded in a large valley?

  • Fucking nice

  • how dose one acquire such a bad ass piece of equipment?

  • @surredneck66 , Sorry, I could not answer that. This is the only known piece outside of NASA' test chamber.

  • most amazing horn ever!

  • sounds like benny benassi...deep bass followed by reverb :D

  • Very nice sound,And i like your videos always...

Keep up the good work Mike.

    Love,

    kris.

  • 0:35 - "WOW! you could really feel on my chest" ...if you built a time machine.

  • I WANT ONE!!!!

  • when are you going to break this out on the QM?

  • couldent you put a muffler on the exaust port to filter out the high pitch startup?

  • @shimrra , The exhaust port balances the vibration of the diaphragms inside the power chamber, If I install any type of restriction or muffler, the horn will not blow...Tried it already :-)

  • thats what they used to communicate with the aliens on Close Entounters of the 3rd kind

  • whats that thing used for?

  • @lukyiusing ,this is a reverberant chamber horn used by NASA. Reverberant chamber is unique to NASA and the USAF for testing full-size aerospace components at high levels of sound pressure.

The noise in the chambers can be shaped to match the specifications of space shuttle and rocket launches, aircraft structural excitation, engine nacelle noise, unsteady turbulent airflows, and the acoustic test specifications required for military equipment sold on domestic and export markets.

  • Good Lord!!!!!

  • What, no hard hat? Watch out for falling rocks!!!

  • nothin quite says get the fuck out of my way like that...

  • The ultimate soulution to tailgaters. You need an auto function to open the hatch...

Following me too close you bastard? OK!

  • Another siren related question for you Mike, how would this thing compare to a P-50 siren, which is 135 decibels at 100 feet?

  • I bet he really honks off the neighbors... in the next town!

  • Talk about waking the kids up for school

  • rip headset users

  • 171,717th!!

  • damn how many DB's is that

  • Dammit! I am so jealous of your collection of beautiful noisemakers!

  • best horn anywhere

  • This would scare Hitler's sound cannon!

  • I wonder what effect it would have on zombies!

  • LoL that Thing is "NASA Racing Exhaust For a Rocket" !!!

  • The echo is Awesome! Where did you test this?

  • @FireAlarmMan458 , Angeles Crest Highway in SoCal

  • I have an all-day/all-night barking dog next door...can I borrow that?

  • 5000 psi???!!!!! What do you do with this thing, go around liquefying peoples' insides at red lights?

  • @Stillwater900 250-500, not 5000

  • Yep! Acoustic testing... essentially rattling the living crap out of stuff...

  • me:GET OUT OF THE WAY *honks horn* guy in front of me: OK I'll move.

  • mike why didnt you put it on 1000 psi? i want to hear it

  • dat echo

  • Well I think this is illegal

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL how far away can you hear it?

  • The War of the Worlds..use that horn at night with some lights.

  • I'd blast it on tailgaters

  • That would have been cool as hell if when you turned that thing on, all the windows just shattered! That thing is tighttt!

  • That is the loudest LOW horn I've ever heard! Do you know if there is a louder horn anywhere in the world that is at least as low as this one or is this it?

  • I'd hate to be in front of you, not paying attention to the red light....

  • amazing sound.

  • i bet u could get better gas milage if u held it down and drove.

    hahahha

  • WHO THE HELL needs a horn this loud...

  • I rated the video and commented on it !! :)

  • Howmany decibels at 1 meter?

  • Man I bet I could get morons with their crappy loud rap music to turn it down in a hurry with that thing in my truck.

  • Oh and any way you can get rid of the squeaks at the start?

  • @datmanflyliketeca , no, that squeak is the exhaust port for the horn

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL haha how much is one of those id like one haha

  • @bgryllis , As far as I know, I'm the only "private" person that has one of these, The rest is used by companies that test things that go into space.

  • Little car,big horn..that honks and people are gonna be thinking a ships coming through.

  • How far out to sea can it be heard on a foggy night?

Coast Guard might want to help find out.

  • Imagine that on a bike going uphill......

  • you probably killed a few birds doing this

  • Ship horn = Fog horn

  • What happens when you stand 10 feet in front of that thing when it goes off? Does your internal organs vibrate at the same decibels and you implode? =D

  • mine is at 1 and its load enough wait till i turn it to full

  • It just doesn't seem right coming from a scion xB...

  • what r the dbs?

    150 160 ?

  • Were can I find something like that

  • That is awesome... but with enough money to buy one why'd you put it in a crappy car?

  • @TehButterflyEffect , Gas mileage.... Plus all the rear section of this car has been sectioned and cut to raise the rear floor to make room for all the air compressors, air tanks, locomotive horns, etc, etc. I would not want to hack up an expensive car. I'm glad you like the horn.

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL Ah okay, that makes sense.

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL that horn is rare isnt it? and it looks like a giant Thunderbolt 1000T

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL WHER GET THAT THING FROM & WHEN!?. SERIOUSLY!!!!!.

  • i can yell echo louder than that.. haha jk that would be hilarious

  • do that in space and see what u get back LOL

  • So Mike,

I am looking at getting a Kahlenberg T-3. Can you tell me some information about it, such as pricing, where to buy, etc.

  • nice alarm clock.....

  • I'm a learner and I'm sick of people cutting me off! Where do I get one of these?

  • So Mike, let's say you were standing 100 feet in front of this horn, with the horn facing you. Let's also say, next to this horn, was a Thunderbolt 1000 with a blower running on chopper level 3, also facing you. The Thunderbolt would not rotate. Would the Thunderbolt drown out this horn or vice versa?

  • @Thewoog34 , I also have a thunderbolt, The thunderbolt seems louder because it has a higher frequency output, but the NASA horn kills the thunderbolt when it comes to its raw power that you feel all over your body! Remember this horn was used to see if the vibrations could destroy a satellite or a space shuttle! Now that's power1

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL You have a Thunderbolt? Do you have a blower with it too? If you've healed up enough since your injury you should make a video showing it! You don't even have to turn it on cause the town might not like that...

  • on 1:02 the sound shakes the camera shitt!!

  • Awesome!!!! It's amaizing I'm so impress!!!!

  • Awesome!!!!!! It's amaizing..... I'm so impress

  • So loud that at low it made my cat mew like crazy.

  • Hey mike Found your post on some horn and whistle blog I read about the new 27 foot servohorns they got there, bet you would love to get your hands on one of those, what is the differance in a servohorn this horn and a diaphone is the nasa horn not the same thing as a diaphone?

  • @manga12 , There is only one of those 27 foot horns, and it is not for sale at any price (I offered), Which is a good thing since I don't know where I would store it if I did own it. The difference between this horn a and a diaphone is that a diaphone uses a piston that goes back and forth in a chamber to produce sound (very efficient), The NASA horn has 2 vibrating diaphragms on made of titanium, a the other one is made of tungsten.

  • Whawhat lol, you offered to buy one? lol

I see, i thought the nasa horn was a diaphone, what is the decible rating on the nasa seven foot?

  • 7'5" THAT'S BIGGER THAN THE PROJECTOR HORN ON A FEDERAL SIGNAL THUNDERBOLT SIREN!!!!!!!

  • Yes you heard it right here folks!!! NOW YOU CAN HONK AT THOSE PESKY PLANES IN THE SKY!!!

  • FUCK ME! i heard that in LONDON!

  • great echo :D

  • Cut me off now bitch!

  • If this is under $8,000 I would seriously consider getting one of these.

  • wow i want hear personally----

  • wow i want hear personally

  • How many db is this horn? is it louder than a ships horn? Can this horn hurt your ears from more than 500ft away? Which kind of horn is the loudest ever built, and how loud?

  • ok i need one of these

  • I want one.

That would scare the shit out of any cyclist .

    They piss me off.

dont think it would fit in my mini though

  • where did u get that

  • I feel like if I put my hand infront of it while its blowing all the bones in my hand will liquify.

  • Wow! Great sounding horn! Fantastic echoes! How does this compare, volume-wise,to the Kahlenberg S-120 piston horn? Also, what's that brief high-pitched squeak just before the main tone? Air valve opening? I play trumpet , alto horn and valve trombone; wish I could get the volume some of these horns get(haha). That's probably also why I like these ship/train/other horn vids so much!

  • @BillC518 , this is much much louder than the Kahlenberg S-120. The design of this horn is somewhat different than the conventional train or ship horn, This sounds off at much higher air pressures between 250-500psi! The squeak you hear at the beginning of each honk is the exhaust port equalizing the pressure in front anf rear section of the diaphragm.

  • Helluva horn and hobby you have!

  • i watched this because i saw the nasa logo w/ a scion and the word horn lol

  • Bast it to the big ships and see if they will respond back

  • now that sounds sweet

  • Damn!!!!! That is loud, you hear how the sound echos like forever.

  • great horn sound but not for the neighbours. At sea you can do it without problem and you listen to it at miles.

  • Awesome! Is that thunder or reverberation you hear in the background?

  • @BIGMIKESOCAL

Do you know how loud it is? I think it may be ~180dB @ 1m in front of this beast. What do you think? - Sorry for very bad english, I'm from Czech Republic (You can't imagine how hard it is to get some horns in there)

  • what is the max db legal on the streets

  • @jairokg , Here in SoCal there really is no dB per say, but the Vehicle code reads "Every motor vehicle, when operated upon a highway, shall

be equipped with a horn in good working order and capable of

emitting sound audible under normal conditions from a distance of not

less than 200 feet, but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or

harsh sound." A train or ship horn is considered emitting unreasonably loud and harsh!

  • That idea to record the echo was a good one, 'cos the echo was awesome! Hell of a good lens considering it said it was about 400ft away as well.

Did the car sustain any damage from having to that kinda power being flung out of it!?

  • Why the NASA made these horns?

  • This would be a good one to pit against the Queen Mary...although your new 425 would be a good competition too since it's so similar.

  • So cool

  • WHAT A FREAKING HORN,LOVE TO HAVE THAT FOR THE AUTOS WITH THE BOOM BOX , LETS SHAKE THEM UP A LITTLE,

  • Good God in Heaven I WANT ONE!

  • was that you in the vid next to your car sounding the horn?

  • Need to use these a bad weather alarms.

  • German PLates : P

This must not be in usa But aha it is : P

European Pride : P Deutschland Ist Die beste : P

  • what was this used for

  • @pooled100 ,this is a reverberant chamber horn used by NASA. Reverberant chamber is unique to NASA and the USAF for testing full-size aerospace components at high levels of sound pressure. It simulates the vibration found during a rocket launch.

  • what was this use for

  • so you want to cut me off on the road? haha

  • i'll put that on a fire truck
