It seems like he hated the weak and incapable Koreans and decided to move to Japan to make himself strong by learning Japanese traditional Karate (Shotokan). While training himself in a forest, he combined Shotokan with the traditional Korea's Tekkyon/Hwarangdo and created his own Geuk Jin (Kyokushin) Karate. I have read his book (co-authored with Bobby Lowe also a Japanese) and our Karate instructor uses it and teaches Kung Fu...I know that he really done damage to the bull but did not kill it. Not to mention Mas Oyama's karate.

His whole goal was to be physically harder than anyone else. Jet Li could be faster and lighter, but he'd never be able to do any real damage to Oyama unless he struck for deliberate weak points.
