@sshuffield70 That's true. But he went by Rod more often than Rob. I knew that Rod's full name was Robert Ray Roddy. But where did you read that he got the nickname "Hot Rod"? That's pretty funny.

Anyone else recall the guy that won something like upwards of $200,000 in ONE day? From what I heard he actually taped the shows and studied the 3-board patterns -which apparently were NOT random- and memorized the movement of the lighted square and if I recall hit like ONLY 1 or 2 whammies out of how many dozens if not hundreds of spins! It wasn't until the middle of the game before they figured out what was going on, and by then it was too late to do anything. I'd like to see THAT one again!
@jeffgraham91 Yeah, found it a few days ago. Apparently CBS television did some heavy investigating, pouring over the game rules, and what-not. They decided there was nothing in the rules prohibiting someone from memorizing the game board so they had to pay him.
By far, Press Your Luck is my all time favorite game show. Never, and I mean never, will I forget the episode when Peter had the wrong answer on the sufferin' sucotash question and Mel Blanc ended up calling the studio. That, to me, was one of the best moments ever in television!
@MultiAnimationdude I know, I said that those shows were produced by Ruby-Spears, I didn't say Press Your Luck was produced by Ruby-Spears, but it's all good
Don't forget besides PYL debuting in 1983,arcade lasergames such as Dragon's Lair debuted the same year. I wish they would have made a Press Your Luck arcade lasergame which like Dragon's Lair, etc.,would have used 12 inch laser video discs combined with graphic computer overlays of that period (MACH 3,Cliff Hanger & some other lasergames used such combinations)

Press Your Luck will forever be known as one of THE Best Game Shows of all time
and also, this show debut along w/Saturday Supercade, Mr. T, Rubik The Amazing Cube and Alvin and the Chipmunks all produced by Ruby-Spears Enterprises
and plus, Van Halen made us Jump and we did
God Bless everyone who made Press Your Luck a success and Thank You Bill Carrutherers, Rod Roddy and Peter Tomarken for what you've done
Later on Rod then said. Today, these 3 players are after Big Bucks! But they will have to avoid the Whammy as they play most exciting game of there lives! Form Television City in Hollywood, its time to Press Your Luck and now heres the star of Press Your Luck. Peter Tomarken.
Big bucks no whammies!

@JeopardyandWheelFan Actually, both Rob and Rod would be correct. Robert Ray ("Hot Rod") Roddy was his full name.
