My memory of Mall Madness was when I was at a sleepover, and one of my friends was goofing around on the top bunk of the bunk bed and fell onto the Mall Madness game. I think that was more entertaining than the game itself. lol
I remember everything on that shopping list was super expensive, unless they were on sale. Also, for me everytime I was right by the store that had the sale, it would end or I was told that my car lights were on and had to go back to start.
What this was, was a tool of gender socialization. This product would NEVER be marketed for males. Why? Our society does not expect or allow males to do the shopping. Males earn the money, females spend the money. An interesting fact is how the game socialized children into our capitalist society. Yes, the comments made on the credit card were also true. They wonder why our economy is such a mess.
OMG I FORGOT ALL ABOUT THIS GAME me and my cuzins played all the time now that im grown i see this was a way for us to get used to using credit cards lol i blame mall madness
Believe it or not, this game actually helped me budget money when I was little...It is a big disadvantage to spend all your money b/c it makes you have to go to the bank in the middle of nowhere, so you have to buy the most things with the least amount of money in the stores closest to you to win.
I pulled out this game from my closet the other day when the power went out. My game was made in 1990 and still works like a charm. I pity my nephew who had to suffer through playing it with me, lol.
Cool! Who would have guessed that a board game is the reason for our current financial crisis!
But seriously, is this not a horrid idea? What parents in their right mind would buy this for their child? I had a sitter that owned this as well as another board game that involved "calling" different boys on a pink plastic phone to hear prerecorded messages about whether or not they liked you.
It's been a while since I've ventured into a toy store; I wonder if trash like this still exists.
I remember wanting this game when I was younger. I was so shocked to see that they did an updated version with Miley Cyrus' Hannah character. Sometimes when they update things, they are no where near as good as the original.
Well Yeah this 1980's version Doesn't really say Game for girls , It just looks like Monopoly in a mall. sort of sense. The Newer ones with the Purple and pink Yeah That screams Girly. And now that the "barbie/Brats/Hannah Montana" look to it it's pretty much poison to Guys. I'll agree with Drie417 with it being more about how to spend, budget, save stratagize and plan on how to win. and not just materealize in all the "in" stuff. I'll have to compare this with bargain hunter some time.
LMAO! You didn't miss much. My twin sister and I just had to have this game and ended up playinig it twice. Kind of sad considering how much it cost my mom to buy it for us.
I had this game as a child... I remember love playing it because it was just about spending money and using your credit cards.... Makes me wonder... that's probably why we are considered generation debt!!
balletdancer, this game was out in I'd say 1990. I got it for Christmas that year and drove my parents NUTS making them pay it with me (I'm an only child!) I think it was broken by New Years I played it so much!
I loved this game. looking back it was so lame! the "credit card" was a piece of card board and "swiping" it consisted of sticking it in a slot and pushing a button with it. lol.
"there's a sale at the kitchen store!" -yeah, cause that's every 10 yearolds dream. lol
Fond memories for boys and girls alike.. right??
