This reminds me of high school, pretty girls, exams, shooting pool, lexicon of love on vinyl , playing football,,,,, then we all had to grow up. ABC were and are a great band. Happy memories
Never under estimate the power of a seminal song.ABC are one of the greatest bands of the 80's and All Of My Heart is probably their greatest song. Amazing band, the The Lexicon of Love,Top 10 album of the 80's by a mile!!!!!
No offense, but I am seriously sick of hearing about that movie series or whatever it is. However, this song is gorgeous and always considered it a favorite...Enough with "twilight" - uh.
SO so many memories of turning 16 years of age when i here this song still seems like yesterday and god only if i had a time machine puts me in mind of my first love when we first went out i listen to this with a wee tear in my eye in fact my first love played this for me the night of my 40th birthday a few years ago
and if i dont hurry up and get off this pc she will start on me as she is in making my dinner. cheers martin :)
'Pop' was NEVER the same after this album...what a consumate album from the opening 'spurned lover' visceral lyrics of 'Show Me' to this....a classic.....the world overlooked what was an amazing record for its time....
must be the only time i have read all comments regarding a song ..with nothing negative.....so condense all these memories of abc and the fantastic80s....n youve got me lol....great posting thank you friend
I totally agree...music vids like these represent a degree of high quality and class that was prevalent in the 80s but died-out with the vulgar, sexually-charged hiphop that took over in the 90s. I just love the singing/instrumental quality inherent in the songs of the 80s, back BEFORE corporate America ruined and sterilized popular music.
After I listen to HOWARD STERN on SIRIUS I often check out 1ST WAVE and LITHIUM - LIKE, OMG! THEY'RE TOTALLY TUBULAR!! GAG ME WITH A SPOON! YEAH, I'M A VAL, I KNOW!!!
I live in the LA area and have been keeping tabs on Richard Blade. He was on KROQ (the top alternative radio station) in LA for years. Then he switched to 98.7 FM (the rising alternative radio in LA). Most recently I've listened to him on SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO. SIRIUS is amazing! They have a station (!st Wave-channel 22) that plays 80's new wave/alternate music 24/7! Also there's "LITHIUM "- channel 24 that plays only 90's alternative/grunge.
Hey, people, calm down. It's "simply" ABC inspired as ever and with the precious help of Trevor Horn and Anne Dudley in their most inspired moment. The album is a masterpiece of its era, recalling greatly the Phil Spector sound and updating it with great technopop... and nothing more. Nothing about "this was heartfelt and nowadays it isn't" because that is, simply, not true. Though "Lexicon of love" is a wonderful masterpiece.
Totally agree with all the comments about the state of todays culture/music. Sad indeed!
But man, I always thought ABC had great music..now that theirs Youtube Ive come to realize that their videos are fantastic too. Excellent cinematography etc..Gotta love the elegance of their videos, you dont see that anymore.
I just think it is a well done piece from the 80's. Great lyrics, well orchestrated and with a video that remembers a time when they told the story behind the song.
No champagne pouring over "big booty ho's" grinding on the grill of an Escalade. Just class.
I blame MTV as much for creating the music video as destroying it. When we were younger videos meant something, they as you said told a story. Now it's just to show how much bling you have.
Reality TV has killed MTV and VH1.. there is no coming back from "For the Love of Money" or "Road Rules" we only have memories and youtube to remind us of our youth and innocence.
The extinction of the human race is not that far down the time linear This song is of a time when humans had compassion and actually enjoyed the presence of friends and loved ones, now its all MP3,I pod,E mail, face book.Twitter, its just so sad to see young people so detached from others,i don`t feel sory for them because they have created their own hell.
Even though the 70's produced some great music, (I saw Zeppelin in 1977), this group (ABC), Duran Duran, Scritti Polliti, Ultravox, Kraftwerk, and MTV helped me actually live the music....I looked the part, sounded the part, drove the part, and worked the part.....it was So 80's.....now my life is "Normal Dad Mode"....But I can still BUST OUT an 80's dance with the best of them....
JWColour how are you? Please I suggest have a listen to some of the 80s music, Its brillant...alot of the music had meaning and yes we could relate to it, muso back then sang with passion and emotion, something real to them ...these days its all about the Dollar and how to make a buck, it has no soul or emotion.
Doin good... oh i've been listening to 80's music since my babysitter introduced me to The Cars when I was just a little guy wreaking havoc. Even before that I was obsessed with Elvis and the Beach Boys. I've always liked older music. I'm 23 now... there's just so much good Rock, Metal/Hair Metal and Pop from these days. Impossible not to love.
funny that................i remember in the eighties folk were saying that seventies rock was the best and the music these days(1980s) was crap.................kids are saying the same thing now that 1990s music is the best and todays music suks...........me....... i like it all this is on my faves cheers
LOL its so true...I have been stuck in the 70s and 80s for years now....I have listened to all sorts of music but I still find the older music was and is far better listening...I know alot of music these days has loss the feeling and passion...I feel that I know alot may not agree but thats just me...bee gees, johnny okeith, doug ashdown, sherbert,ELO, dan hill, elton john and many many more greats God I could go all night, times and music has changed.
ha ha ha yes i know what u mean ...im actually a disco tragic, but had to keep my disco feelings locked in the cupboard for twenty years untill now ....my faves list includes knock on wood , i love to love you baby, yes sir i can boogie,s s s single bed, i feel love etc etc so now im into the modern bass and drums of the pre-sets, empire of the sun etc..... take care
hi mylilly1st.... lots of great music over the years. maybe you would like to check out my favs and my TOP 100 playlist. many of the artists you mention are there and quite a lot more. i have a couple of harder to find songs on vinyl i have uploaded too.
ABC - All Of My Heart = Legendary. it's in my TOP 100 to stay.
But isn't that true of life now in general......everything is temporary and throw away. No feeling put into anything. Just like people as well. Even though I do it too, e-mailing people is the worst thing that has happened for human connection. How can you seriously put your feelings into text? Facial expression is everything in conversation.
Yes you are so right I think I left you a inbox message...I wonder if people ever stop and realize how far detached from human compassion we have become...I may be a little older, But hey I love to sit and write a letter and recieve snail mail, the thrill and joy of going to the letter box to find a letter from a loved one still stirs that feeling deep within me, and I never want to lose that.
Beautiful...........I played the 'Lexicon of Love' album alot back in the 80's and this was my fave song off it!! Think I may just have to dig it out again..................
AHHHHH.........the summer of 82, the first time I had my heart broken. What happened to those innocent times.Someone hurry up and invent a time machine!!!!!!.
this and 'save a prayer', whow, summer 82 in port isaac in cornwall, she broke my heart and then mended it, she walked away with it eventually though, good luck wherever she is, i think im gonna get in me tardis and pop back for a pint in 82 tonight
over 27 years later, this song still takes me right back to those classic 'emotional - in love- heart broken' teenage years, lisening to this song on cassette ... Lexicon of Love remains my favourite album to this day
Totally agree - this song came on in a pub a few months back. I was with my gf at the time. When it came on she was off in the beer garden, smoking her lungs out and probably chatted up anything with a pulse whilst I was inside listening to this...
And the killer is that "The Look of Love" video could have been just as great, but they just blew with that stupid, stupid afternoon in the park stuff.
My favorite part of this video is the plaintive look on his face when with the orchestra. "Well I hope and I pray..."

Total class.

Following the drab and aimlessTears are Not Enough the three singles released in 1982 were in a different league.
Then Beauty Stab and it's singles were weird affairs and I lost interest.
In 1987 I bought the '82 album second hand on the strength of the '87 hit single When Smokey Sings.
There is so much brilliance in among it. Lexicon of Love is up there among the great debuts.
