I think it's fair to say that Lemaitre is an awful technician and he seems to be missing a bit of upper-body strength. But, these are both things that can be taught and obtained. So, does anyone think he could ever challenge Bolt, Gay, Powell etc. Can't wait for tomorrow's final!!! Bolt for a new WR?
Great job , true accomplishment, finally true European is winning . Anyway I am very happy to see true hard working athlete winning over naturally gifted black athletes. Black athletes think they win cause they are working hard ! my god, in fact, they r winning cause of their potential lighted by right training. Black athletes can't ignore genetic factors forever.
@KoreanMale12 The great black athletes usually are very hard workers, except for Bolt. But because Bolt is lazy, that is why he hasn't touched his times from 3/4yrs ago, he's gotten slower, which doesn't make sense. Micheal Johnson Edwin Moses, very hard workers, very consistent winnners. Because LeMaitre has done it as a white man, more white men will follow. Even Liu Xiang will have influence, an asian man competing at the highest level of the 110 hurdles which is a sprint event.
You are telling me that blacks work harder to achieve where they stand in terms of physical sports? I don't buy that at ALL. First of all, if what you r saying is true, NFL or NBA should not be so skewed to one side. Chinese love NBA and they play and have their own league, the fact is recruiters don't see the talent to compete in NBA. In NFL, size, speed, and power have been enhanced, blacks completely dominate, recruiters r biased? or empirically value the talent. Blacks r
I had enough discussions with ppl like you man. Generally blacks are talented , no doubt about it. I always wonder when will Tibetans,Nepalese or Peruvians dominate distance events? or never will. Kenyans or Ethiopians dominate, blacks. No matter how you want to talk this out with environment bullcrap or hard work, won't convince me. Liu Xiang worked on techniques strides to cover the lack of speed. Liu is the only Chinese sprinter out of billions..
If you blame the system or coaching, check Japan( track n field), very similar to U.S., where baseball is very popular football too. Basketball, they are physically not tall, not explosive. I can go on with whatever reason you say, hard work does not convince me at all. In golf, yes, Asians have chance and indeed we are showing off. Golf is money + leisure for rich class, Eastern Asians will perform well once the access is well through. LPGA- Korean women perform very well.
Not sure how to put all these together, I try to think like you, but what I have experienced and heard, seen on the field totally persuaded me that genetic factors play more . Blacks are attuned to play basketball, it's not like Asians dislike it, we can't make it through divisions or recruiters give damn about it. If NFL recruiters are all non-biased, we should see at least one good white , Hispanic, or Asian running back so on, reality check zero. I can go on seriously,
Sorry to talk this long, but I can't reason we lacked hard work.. we worked hard to build our economy, we play excellent in classical music( European music), we have won Nobel prizes, but track and field - we tried, but innate factors play more to distribute Olympic metals there. Swimming we are, I don't see any blacks( perhaps muscle density). Hard work? black swimmers? not South Africans- that's nationality- race of that team is white. I'm sure what I mean. I havemanyreasonsetc
@KoreanMale12 I agree with most of your rant. For pure 100m sprint, west african athletes, specifically, those who have dealt with slavery the longest (aka, caribean, united states) are those best suited towards sports, there was lots of breeding for size and strength. The strongest people by population for the NFL are polynesians. If there were as many samoans as there are blacks, the NFL would be dominated by them, they are very fast big and explosive. It's more about body type vs race.
@akuonye lol, some do yes, but more white girls like money, and blacks will never be smarter than asians. And it isn't cause we work hard, we just have better brains than blacks.
Its funny how Asians, and Latinos say they are superior to us, but look at how asians are overrating Jeremy Lin( its sad). He is a good player, but for all we know, he could be another Flip Murray like in 2003-2004 season. Its kinda funny you will never a white or black get excited over somebody in their race like asians are for Lin after 5 games lol.
BTW asians maybe smarter than blacks, but hiphop, sports, and most of the music you hear was possible be
because of black people, asians dress like black people, are rapping now. Everybdoy says they are superior to us, but history has shown otherwise Blacks are second to only whites when you really think about it. Because no matter what any asian or latino ever does, it was really only possible because of blacks
Asians say Manny Pacquaio is the greatest boxer ever lol. To Blacks and to most people with boxing knowledge he is just an asian Aaron Pryor
The same thing with Mexicans, Mexicans suck at sports, i can only name a few of the top of my head like Adrian Gonzalez, and Mark Sanchez, but let a Mexican Player come in the NBA( and if he plays like Brandon Jennings, watch them overrate him). Its sad, Rock Music invented by blacks, Hip Hop invented by Blacks, R&B invented by Blacks, Michael Jackson greatest pop icon ever. Blacks are better than asians, and will be remmeber for more things than asians
hahaah stop kissing the white mans ass, it wont make white girls like you.
You say white girls only like black guys with money. Thats BS, dating a black guy with money gives them an excuse to date out, becase if they get married, and get divorced( it wont if her family cut her off she can support herself)
White parents threaten their daughters with exhile if they date out. Most white girls dont really care anymore. Mixed race people fastest growing minority
@akuonye You are an idiot, i regret spending time replying to you. You were the one to throw out Black supremecy in sports. Truth is, I agree with alot of what you say, but you're mostly refering to sports and art, IMO Louis Armstrong is my idol and is arguably the greatest musician ever to live. Whites would argue Mozart/Bach/Beethoven. Asians have contributed more to humanity than blacks have by far, but you are too a prisoner of the present to see it. Gunpowder? Ito Calculus? The number 0?
@akuonye I'm saying women prefer money over race, and smart people generally make more money, aside from superstar athletes. You are not asian, so you don't realize we have co existed with europeans and have a rich history of our own and have never been conquered by anyone, rather Genghis Khan conquered much of the world. Read the book, Guns, Germs and Steel, the fate of human civilizations, it will open your eyes to alot of these things, but ultimately, we are all one like you said.
@KoreanMale12 Look at Christophe LeMaitre. Now that he has broken 10 sec, many others will do it because they now know it's possible. East asians struggle with sprints and running, but excel in weightlifting, do well in swimming, soccer, martial arts, wrestling, so they are very athletic. If you want to study an unathletic people, it's the indians. Some can argue that asians however are the smartest race of people.
I don't know much about Indians, but they r mixed with Arabians, Mongolians, Tibetan, southern native through many gen. If they get access to the sports more, they will def. show up, my pred. - golf, soccer, gymnastics, field events shot puts discuss throw archery. They prob. have the greatest potentials on any sports. They indeed excel in computer engineering and mathematics along with Chinese. Pakistan and Bangladesh are tech. India, just religion is dif. so two more
@KoreanMale12 Check out their medal count at the olympics, the only have a handful despite having about a billion in population. It is well known they are very poor at athletics.
I love the bias in the commentators! Let's put this in perspective: he ran 20.3. That's a great high school time. Byt this age, Bolt was running waaay faster. Let's see this kid run 19.9 or a couple more sub-10's before we start speculating on his greatness.
@adriano911 Not really. We have high school students running that. Naturally. With no wind. But I do hope Lemaitre goes alot faster in the future. He seems like a cool kid. You can't want anything but good for him. I just find the bias and over abundance of praise a bit off putting.
@CHEETAH69 I completely agree with you on the hype and all, thats too much and thats because he is white and uncharacteristic. But high school is what ? 15 to 18 ? Running 20'30 at 18 years old is insane (that's the kind of time that future potential olympic finanlists do at that age, I mean think about it its a GREAT "high school time").
@MrStevecro This was not done this year. And the point is we have a high school record of 20.08 here in the states. And beyond that we have a SLEW of athletes running in the 19s. When Lemaitre can run in that range, I'll join in on the praise. And you have reached a new level of delusion to even THINK that he is anywhere near Blake! Just foolish. Isn't there an awesome race on here of Lemaitre getting the shit beat out of him by Blake? Settle down and come back to reality.
extraordinary extrapolation! Nothing you have blithered on about negates anything I've written above.
I said his 200 time this year equals Blake's, is world top ten and that no high schoolers are running 20.3e at the moment, especially with a 2.2 wind against. I don't care what the record may be! Maybe you should stop building straw men!
@MrStevecro No straw man here. You've done everything but anoint this kid "The Second Coming!" He's not the next most impressive after the greats. He's not even in the top 10 and yet we're talking about him? I like the guy. But let's be real here. The ONLY reason he's being discussed and NOT the 10-15 dudes between him, Bolt, Gay or Powell, is because he's white. You blathering on about his times in comparison to other folks. Screw that. What has he done NEXT to these other folks? Sit down.
@CHEETAH69 OK, I'll bite...what's he done? world and euro junior titles, senior euro triple, shown an ability to dig deep which even impressed Tyson Gay. Yes, being white adds interest in a world where people have grown to expect a few new blacks to go sub 10 every season but hardly detracts from his achievements.
BTW Roy Martin has the high school record of 20.13 (and he never even went on to break 20 in his career) unless you know something USATF don't.
I'm certain Gay (nor anyone among the world elite) is thinking that this kid poses a threat. So he was "impressed?". What in hell does THAT mean? Until he actually beats him, Gay's feeling mean nothing at all. And shown the "ability to dig deep?" LOL. Are you high? I know school kids who at least do that. for all his junior wins, does he have any actual junior records? Crickets.
Martin ran 20.13 and did nothing after. Lemaitre ran sub-10 and it's possible he'll suffer the same fate.
@Flanagorn But he wont haha, Bolt is a freak of nature, and there will not be anyone quite as fast as him for a long long time. He might beat Bolt in a one off race, but he wont beat Bolts records.
@Flanagorn Humans walking on the moon is all about technology, technology develops quickly.
black men being US president it's all about people's minds, it can change, and it did.
Lemaitre beating Bolt is IMPOSSIBLE, due to genetics, lemaitre is white, the fastest white runner ever, but since always the black men were faster than the white men, and bolt is the fastest, he ran 9.58, lemaitre 9.97(his new PB), im telling you, Lemaitre will never go under 9.80 :)
dude lemaitre will never beat bolt in the 100m or the 200m bolt was running 19.93 in the 200 at 17 years of age but he is a bloody good runner i recken he can go low 9,8 if he sticks to it posibley 9.7 something but time will tell
Christophe Lemaitre is not fully developed as an athlete his body currently can only cope with 10 hours training a week, that 2 hours from monday to friday...hardly more than what amateur athletes do...and he hardly does any weight training...that makes one wonder how much faster he can go !
On top of this he has a unique mental aptitude...he is the epitome of a winner.
He has everything to develop further and could challenge for a 3rd or 4th place finish on a world stage someday soon.
@rascasse83 How do you know he doesn't lift weights, some people just hasn't got the ability to get much bigger, I have done alot of sprinting and my legs and upper body is twice Lemaitres. But it will be intresting to see, because if he could, he can be just as fast as the top sprinters.
I don't know alot about atheltics, but I would speculate that Lemaitre has more potential to improve than Blake as he is Taller and has more room to build muscle and mature. He also unlike Blake needs better coaching to improve his technique.
With these points in mind it seems very possible that Lemaitre might be faster than Blake by 2012.
A = Bolt, Powell, Gay (Bolt in front, closest challenge Powell when he is fit and minus his head problems)
B = Blake, Dix, Thompson, Carter
C = Everyone in the 9.9-10.0x bracket (this includes Lemaitre, Bailey, Spearman, etc.)
D = Everyone else struggling to brk 10.10
I wouldn't be surprised to see Lemaitre at the WC/Oly finals because he is running on raw talent. He is as much of a threat as Blake was last year when he was just busting out.
People need to stop bashing the kid. Am not saying he is going to be beating Bolt anytime soon (who has himself proven that he is beatable if he doesn't come with his head screwed on) but to think that he is just a 'decent' or a 'good' runner noting his age and the OBVIOUS faults in his running form is... and I say this again... CLEARLY BIAS. He is already a consistent 10.0low runner, fix his running form and put on some muscles and you can chunk .20 off his PB. Added to that that he is 20.
It wins by running very badly on 100m and 200m!! It is proof that it is better a lot! By ameliorating its departure and by taking muscles it is obvious that Lemaitre has the capacities to make 9.75 on 100m and 19.60 on 200m. I think that he can will beat everybody except Bolt.
Increible!!! lo vi en la pista y fue brutal y eso que cuando pasó por mi zona iba quinto... (tribuna izquierda), que tio!!! vaya remontada!!! Felicitaciones Lemaitre!
Christophe Lemaitre is 20. Usain Bolt will be 24 in a few weeks. Let's see if the young man will develop over the next few years and show that he can challenge the best by the 2012 games in London before we crown him the next great thing-or dismiss him as fourth tier.
@Flanagorn Bolt always say anything is possible and I agree, but its offensive to real track fans when you guys put Christophe Lemaitre and Usain Bolt in the same category. Lemaitre has to get some 9.8's and some low 19.7's before he is considered a serious sprinter to people who reside out of Europe. Here are the categories:
A. Usain Bolt
B. Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell
C. Yohan Blake, D. Bailey, W. Dix, Spearmon, Richard Thompson
D. The Rest- which Christophe Lemaitre is apart of
@Flanagorn, Lemaitre is overhyped, yes he's good but to bring up the notion that he he will beat bolt is ridiculous when you have a guy his age who is better than him and nobody is claiming he will beat bolt yet. thats just too much hype for me.
Those who think that Yohan Blake is stronger than Christophe Lemaitre should enquire a bit!! Yohan Blake was controlled positive in only 19 years for usage of méthylxanthine during the championships of jamaïque in 2009! Without any product Lemaitre is certainly better than Blake.
@litogor Shut you trap hole! Christophe Lemaitre's times in 100m and 200m are a stroll in the park for world class sprinters. All Jamaica's and America's young propects is going to eat him alive. I bet you in 2011 world championships and 2012 Olympics he will not even make the finals much less to get a medal. Only in Europe can someone get this much hype and win medals with those rediculous times. Don't get me wrong either, I likeChristophe Lemaitre, he is just very over hyped at the moment.
@westideas To say that 'all Jamaica's and America's young propects is going to eat him alive' is ofcourse outrageous, for Lemaitre is the only 'prospect' that has broken the 10 second barrier (without being tested positive) in the whole world at this moment. And as for the hype ur right, he might be overhyped. But lets look at it this way: In any country outside of Europe the best footballclub (soccer) will be hyped up as well, although they will not beat the best European team.
@Apsdp Here we go again. I am going to assume that you are a casual track fan and that you started to be very much interested in track since the rise of Usain Bolt based on your statement. "Being tested positive for what"? I will assume your speaking of Yohan Blake. I am not even going to explain and entertain your lack of knowledge on the subject, do your own research. What I will say is Yohan has always been a prodigy in this sport from an early age, research that also!
@westideas Ok, about Blake I have to agree, he's good and the ban might not have been legit. However, my point still stands; Lemaitre will not at all be blown away by all the other talents. Furthermore, Lemaitre has a lot of room for improvement, his technique is flawed and when he finally starts growing some more muscles well see what hes really capable of. Talentwise he's incredible. As for being 'casual fan since Bolt' ... Whatever. Ive been a track fan yrs before that
@Apsdp On Blake, I just want people to know the diffrerence between a "ban substance" (which could be almost anything) and a "performance enhancing drug (P.E.D) before calling someone a drug cheat.
On Christophe, he is a "good" sprinter and has the potential to be "very good" based on his age and technique. However until he live up to some of his expectations and win some competitive races and run some 9.8's and some 19.8's he remains in "the rest" category. All this hype! (Craig Pickering).
On Lemaitre, I think you are underrating him, but the media are indeed overhyping him. However, he's one of the top prospects, and I think a future contender for the medals at the big events (olympic games and World champs). The comparisson with Pickering is just over the top, I think Lemaitre will deliver.
@litogor , and what is your point? Yohan Blake is better and will stay better than Lemaitre, only an injury to Yohan can make Lemaitre better than. Méthylxanthine is a stimulant and not PED, You can be tested positive for Méthylxanthine by just drinking a energy.
>_> Anyone who sees Lemaitre and Blake and doesn't think that Lemaitre has far more to work on and thusly is far more likely to improve than Blake either is bias or doesn't know that much about track and field. Am not going to claim that Lemaitre is going to eventually be faster but Lemaitre's form and phases makes Blake look like an expert and its clear that Lemaitre lacks some serious muscles compared to other elite athletes.
@doinotna you guys are hyping this kid up to fall badly, i don't care what you guys want to say blake is better and he will only get better training along side Usain Bolt and he might be the world's only chance of beating bolt (which i think is impossible) not Lemaitre.
Bolt will probably never be beat unless his high life reaches him, he starts getting lazy, driving fast cars, smoking, then maybe he can be beat, as it stands, he is very very very unbeatable because he can go faster. i think if anyone is going to beat him, it'll be an italian, they are so rapid.
Keonist: My point being simply that a sprinter like Lemaitre that has no technique whatsoever, still learning the basics , manages to go under 10 seconds. Imagine if he had Blakes experience.... Don't count your chickens yet. Lemaitre has tremendous top end speed naturally.
@Bibinou68 and my point is that Yohan has alot of developing to do as well, he has a awful start and rely on his top speed ( which is better than Lemaitre's) to win races, they both have developing to do but Blake is the better 20 year and will get even better. Bib i know you rate Lemaitre highly but don't tell me about technique or whatever to try to prove your point that lemaitre is better or will become because i can find excuses for blake too.
Euro's is Pre-NCAA's...Lemaitre has potenial.I will give him that, but he is not Yohan Blake. He hope decides to leave Europe and train in the states..Its his only chance.
Keonist: you're funny i have to say: on one hand you take Blake's best performances and compare them with Lemaitre's times in these championships. Unfortunately for you, Lemaitre's best performances weren't achieved during this competition. Lemaitre's best performances are 20. 16 over 200 meters and 9.98 in the 100 metrs. Yet the guy took up athletics at the age of 15 years old and is still built like a kid. In truth Lemaitre has more potential than Blake. Be objective boy.
@Bibinou68, i am being objective, to me Yohan has more potential and more upside than Lematre, Did u see the race in Paris where Blake whoop his butt on his home track, the next thing is that you brought up a great example about starting track at age 15, a guy name Asafa Powell didn't start his track career too early and look wat he is doing now, a good sprinter but cant beat bolt, Bolt started track early like yohan and both yohan and bolt were stars back in high school.
@Bibinou68 you said i used yohan's best time, ok Lemaitre personal best s 20.16 and Yohan's 19.78. Yohan is clearly better that Lemaitre and yet i still don't know if he will beat bolt, but if i had to choose either Lemaitre or Blake to beat bolt i have to go with Blake.
let me just put a stop to all you people who thinks that one day this guy will beat bolt, lemaitre won the 200m meters in 20.37, bolt ran 20.40 at age 15, bolt is 23, he's 20, lemaitre is developing and so is Usian St Leo Bolt. Sorry guys he's good but will never ever beat bolt, instead you guys can focus on a guy his age who i know lemaitre can't even beat and that is Yohan Blake. oh yeah lemaitre won the 100 meters in 10.11, well sorry guys but Yohan ran 10.11 at age 17. PEACE.
@keonist Well Yohan Blake doesn't really have any progression margin (is that correct in english?), he is 20, the best for his age I agree with you, but relatively small and already built up like maurice green... Wait till Lemaitre puts on some weight and hell beat Blake in two or three years. And I agree with you, he will never beat Bolt !
@adriano911 will right now Yohan is showing more progression and mature base on times and confidence shown on the track, a great example, check out the race between them and the big guns in paris.
@keonist yohan is ok......i dont think lemaitre will ever be up the standard blakes at but u have to say lemaitre is probably 1 of the best white athletes in the world (by athletes i mean track and field)
@TRACKMAD1131 i did say he is good, pretty good i might add, but these people are crazy to think that he will ever beat bolt even though a guy his age is better than him (yohan) and not even he may not beat bolt.
yohan and christian are going to have a nice rivalry, lemaitre might become one of the greatest sprinters once he gets stronger and perfects his form though
I agree..Yohan is way ahead of Lemaitre at this stage of their careers. I can't wait for the rivalry to be Lemaitre vs Yohan. That should be fun. Bolt, Powell and Gay are way, way, way ahead of Lemaitre so there is no need to compare Lemaitre w. them at this point. People need to get real. The boy is good but ain't ready yet.
@gavinscott10 the problem i see with yohan is that he has already been caught with an illegal stimulant in his system. At such an early stage of his career I see it as a very bad sign of things to come. Also Lemaitre seems to still have a bit of developing to come, unlike Blake, but who knows what the future holds.
it aint all that fast to me i expect a 19 from him to me all the dude who were in 2008 world junior ( curtis mitchell ) christophe beat is way faster than him now and it sad lol and yall talking about yohan blake he got bettter thing to worry about like tyson gay and usain lol so yeathey are same ages and yohan best is 19.78 he first time doing a 200m in a while and chris is doing it his whole life but he did well keep the goood work son
@gavinscott10 Yohan Blake was suspended in 2009 for usage of méthylxanthine!!
It is a sharper as all Jamaican and Americans! You will see that same Usain Bolt will become caught one day when other one! Lemaitre it it is clean am has a very big margin of progress..
@litogor You know everything about athletics in Jamaica and America and our drug comspiracies. We have been drugging our kids since they have been in the womb. Pregnant women go for their regular dosage of drugs to get their kids running, and we have always been competing against the Americans, not on the track but to see who gets the best drugs into their kids at the earliest possible time. So you are right, we are all drugged.
Super win. His bend running has so much improvement to come. I don't know ho he's dropped back to 6th and still found a way to win. And I couldn't less about times before its stated how "slow" it apparently was, Lemaitre showed why he's a great champion of Europe.
Without any product, you win... :)

Mixed race people fastest growing minority
akuonye 1 week ago
@akuonye You are an idiot, i regret spending time replying to you. You were the one to throw out Black supremecy in sports. Truth is, I agree with alot of what you say, but you're mostly refering to sports and art, IMO Louis Armstrong is my idol and is arguably the greatest musician ever to live. Whites would argue Mozart/Bach/Beethoven. Asians have contributed more to humanity than blacks have by far, but you are too a prisoner of the present to see it. Gunpowder? Ito Calculus? The number 0?
TheAngeltoDemon 1 week ago
@akuonye I'm saying women prefer money over race, and smart people generally make more money, aside from superstar athletes. You are not asian, so you don't realize we have co existed with europeans and have a rich history of our own and have never been conquered by anyone, rather Genghis Khan conquered much of the world. Read the book, Guns, Germs and Steel, the fate of human civilizations, it will open your eyes to alot of these things, but ultimately, we are all one like you said.
TheAngeltoDemon 1 week ago
@KoreanMale12 Look at Christophe LeMaitre. Now that he has broken 10 sec, many others will do it because they now know it's possible. East asians struggle with sprints and running, but excel in weightlifting, do well in swimming, soccer, martial arts, wrestling, so they are very athletic. If you want to study an unathletic people, it's the indians. Some can argue that asians however are the smartest race of people.

I love the bias in the commentators! Let's put this in perspective: he ran 20.3. That's a great high school time. Byt this age, Bolt was running waaay faster. Let's see this kid run 19.9 or a couple more sub-10's before we start speculating on his greatness.
CHEETAH69 11 months ago
@CHEETAH69 20.3 is crazy for someone 20 years old with a lot of wind, and someone who probably doesn't take steroids.
adriano911 10 months ago 2
@adriano911 Not really. We have high school students running that. Naturally. With no wind. But I do hope Lemaitre goes alot faster in the future. He seems like a cool kid. You can't want anything but good for him. I just find the bias and over abundance of praise a bit off putting.
CHEETAH69 10 months ago
@CHEETAH69 I completely agree with you on the hype and all, thats too much and thats because he is white and uncharacteristic. But high school is what ? 15 to 18 ? Running 20'30 at 18 years old is insane (that's the kind of time that future potential olympic finanlists do at that age, I mean think about it its a GREAT "high school time").
adriano911 10 months ago
@CHEETAH69 sorry, but there's no high schoolers running 20.33e into a 2.2 wind first run of the season, not according to IAAF anyhow.
That time is world number 10 equal with Yohan Blake's which had a slight following breeze.
I think his 20.16 PR will be demolished this year based on that run
MrStevecro 8 months ago
@MrStevecro This was not done this year. And the point is we have a high school record of 20.08 here in the states. And beyond that we have a SLEW of athletes running in the 19s. When Lemaitre can run in that range, I'll join in on the praise. And you have reached a new level of delusion to even THINK that he is anywhere near Blake! Just foolish. Isn't there an awesome race on here of Lemaitre getting the shit beat out of him by Blake? Settle down and come back to reality.
CHEETAH69 8 months ago
@CHEETAH69
extraordinary extrapolation! Nothing you have blithered on about negates anything I've written above.
I said his 200 time this year equals Blake's, is world top ten and that no high schoolers are running 20.3e at the moment, especially with a 2.2 wind against. I don't care what the record may be! Maybe you should stop building straw men!
MrStevecro 8 months ago
@MrStevecro No straw man here. You've done everything but anoint this kid "The Second Coming!" He's not the next most impressive after the greats. He's not even in the top 10 and yet we're talking about him? I like the guy. But let's be real here. The ONLY reason he's being discussed and NOT the 10-15 dudes between him, Bolt, Gay or Powell, is because he's white. You blathering on about his times in comparison to other folks. Screw that. What has he done NEXT to these other folks? Sit down.
CHEETAH69 8 months ago
@CHEETAH69 OK, I'll bite...what's he done? world and euro junior titles, senior euro triple, shown an ability to dig deep which even impressed Tyson Gay. Yes, being white adds interest in a world where people have grown to expect a few new blacks to go sub 10 every season but hardly detracts from his achievements.
BTW Roy Martin has the high school record of 20.13 (and he never even went on to break 20 in his career) unless you know something USATF don't.
MrStevecro 8 months ago
I'm certain Gay (nor anyone among the world elite) is thinking that this kid poses a threat. So he was "impressed?". What in hell does THAT mean? Until he actually beats him, Gay's feeling mean nothing at all. And shown the "ability to dig deep?" LOL. Are you high? I know school kids who at least do that. for all his junior wins, does he have any actual junior records? Crickets.
Martin ran 20.13 and did nothing after. Lemaitre ran sub-10 and it's possible he'll suffer the same fate.
CHEETAH69 8 months ago
@Flanagorn But he wont haha, Bolt is a freak of nature, and there will not be anyone quite as fast as him for a long long time. He might beat Bolt in a one off race, but he wont beat Bolts records.

He has everything to develop further and could challenge for a 3rd or 4th place finish on a world stage someday soon.
rascasse83 1 year ago 2
@rascasse83 How do you know he doesn't lift weights, some people just hasn't got the ability to get much bigger, I have done alot of sprinting and my legs and upper body is twice Lemaitres. But it will be intresting to see, because if he could, he can be just as fast as the top sprinters.
Kavehisftw 1 year ago
I don't know alot about atheltics, but I would speculate that Lemaitre has more potential to improve than Blake as he is Taller and has more room to build muscle and mature. He also unlike Blake needs better coaching to improve his technique.
With these points in mind it seems very possible that Lemaitre might be faster than Blake by 2012.

By the way.... I'd rank the runners:

Christophe Lemaitre is 20. Usain Bolt will be 24 in a few weeks. Let's see if the young man will develop over the next few years and show that he can challenge the best by the 2012 games in London before we crown him the next great thing-or dismiss him as fourth tier.
drzhivago1963 1 year ago
@Flanagorn Bolt always say anything is possible and I agree, but its offensive to real track fans when you guys put Christophe Lemaitre and Usain Bolt in the same category. Lemaitre has to get some 9.8's and some low 19.7's before he is considered a serious sprinter to people who reside out of Europe. Here are the categories:
A. Usain Bolt
B. Tyson Gay and Asafa Powell
C. Yohan Blake, D. Bailey, W. Dix, Spearmon, Richard Thompson
D. The Rest- which Christophe Lemaitre is apart of
westideas 1 year ago
@westideas I agree with your categories, amazing how people like Crawford and D Atkins aren't even get close anymore.
Reformed2005 1 year ago
@Flanagorn, Lemaitre is overhyped, yes he's good but to bring up the notion that he he will beat bolt is ridiculous when you have a guy his age who is better than him and nobody is claiming he will beat bolt yet. thats just too much hype for me.
keonist 1 year ago
Those who think that Yohan Blake is stronger than Christophe Lemaitre should enquire a bit!! Yohan Blake was controlled positive in only 19 years for usage of méthylxanthine during the championships of jamaïque in 2009! Without any product Lemaitre is certainly better than Blake.
litogor 1 year ago 9
@litogor Shut you trap hole! Christophe Lemaitre's times in 100m and 200m are a stroll in the park for world class sprinters. All Jamaica's and America's young propects is going to eat him alive. I bet you in 2011 world championships and 2012 Olympics he will not even make the finals much less to get a medal. Only in Europe can someone get this much hype and win medals with those rediculous times. Don't get me wrong either, I likeChristophe Lemaitre, he is just very over hyped at the moment.
westideas 1 year ago
@westideas took the words right out of my mouth.
keonist 1 year ago
@westideas To say that 'all Jamaica's and America's young propects is going to eat him alive' is ofcourse outrageous, for Lemaitre is the only 'prospect' that has broken the 10 second barrier (without being tested positive) in the whole world at this moment. And as for the hype ur right, he might be overhyped. But lets look at it this way: In any country outside of Europe the best footballclub (soccer) will be hyped up as well, although they will not beat the best European team.
Apsdp 1 year ago
@Apsdp Here we go again. I am going to assume that you are a casual track fan and that you started to be very much interested in track since the rise of Usain Bolt based on your statement. "Being tested positive for what"? I will assume your speaking of Yohan Blake. I am not even going to explain and entertain your lack of knowledge on the subject, do your own research. What I will say is Yohan has always been a prodigy in this sport from an early age, research that also!
westideas 1 year ago
@westideas Ok, about Blake I have to agree, he's good and the ban might not have been legit. However, my point still stands; Lemaitre will not at all be blown away by all the other talents. Furthermore, Lemaitre has a lot of room for improvement, his technique is flawed and when he finally starts growing some more muscles well see what hes really capable of. Talentwise he's incredible. As for being 'casual fan since Bolt' ... Whatever. Ive been a track fan yrs before that
Apsdp 1 year ago
@Apsdp On Blake, I just want people to know the diffrerence between a "ban substance" (which could be almost anything) and a "performance enhancing drug (P.E.D) before calling someone a drug cheat.
On Christophe, he is a "good" sprinter and has the potential to be "very good" based on his age and technique. However until he live up to some of his expectations and win some competitive races and run some 9.8's and some 19.8's he remains in "the rest" category. All this hype! (Craig Pickering).
westideas 1 year ago
@westideas On Blake, u were right and I agree.
On Lemaitre, I think you are underrating him, but the media are indeed overhyping him. However, he's one of the top prospects, and I think a future contender for the medals at the big events (olympic games and World champs). The comparisson with Pickering is just over the top, I think Lemaitre will deliver.
Apsdp 1 year ago
@litogor , and what is your point? Yohan Blake is better and will stay better than Lemaitre, only an injury to Yohan can make Lemaitre better than. Méthylxanthine is a stimulant and not PED, You can be tested positive for Méthylxanthine by just drinking a energy.
keonist 1 year ago
>_> Anyone who sees Lemaitre and Blake and doesn't think that Lemaitre has far more to work on and thusly is far more likely to improve than Blake either is bias or doesn't know that much about track and field. Am not going to claim that Lemaitre is going to eventually be faster but Lemaitre's form and phases makes Blake look like an expert and its clear that Lemaitre lacks some serious muscles compared to other elite athletes.
doinotna 1 year ago
@doinotna you guys are hyping this kid up to fall badly, i don't care what you guys want to say blake is better and he will only get better training along side Usain Bolt and he might be the world's only chance of beating bolt (which i think is impossible) not Lemaitre.
keonist 1 year ago

Bibinou68 1 year ago
@Bibinou68 and my point is that Yohan has alot of developing to do as well, he has a awful start and rely on his top speed ( which is better than Lemaitre's) to win races, they both have developing to do but Blake is the better 20 year and will get even better. Bib i know you rate Lemaitre highly but don't tell me about technique or whatever to try to prove your point that lemaitre is better or will become because i can find excuses for blake too.

Bibinou68 1 year ago
@Bibinou68, i am being objective, to me Yohan has more potential and more upside than Lematre, Did u see the race in Paris where Blake whoop his butt on his home track, the next thing is that you brought up a great example about starting track at age 15, a guy name Asafa Powell didn't start his track career too early and look wat he is doing now, a good sprinter but cant beat bolt, Bolt started track early like yohan and both yohan and bolt were stars back in high school.
keonist 1 year ago
@Bibinou68 you said i used yohan's best time, ok Lemaitre personal best s 20.16 and Yohan's 19.78. Yohan is clearly better that Lemaitre and yet i still don't know if he will beat bolt, but if i had to choose either Lemaitre or Blake to beat bolt i have to go with Blake.

@gavinscott10 the problem i see with yohan is that he has already been caught with an illegal stimulant in his system. Super win. His bend running has so much improvement to come. I don't know ho he's dropped back to 6th and still found a way to win. And I couldn't less about times before its stated how "slow" it apparently was, Lemaitre showed why he's a great champion of Europe.
