i remember in 1991 the summer in fresno 107.5 kzzf zrock hit are air waves it was like heaven concerts were coming every two weeks but p.r man scorching scotty was a bitch at every concret dave mustaine to him he needs to get layed on time we miss z-rock we miss dave bolts and mad max hammer and we want it back s.o.s help we need our zrock back wee miss it baddly
Z ROCK was cool for its time. I can remember discovering WZRZ 96.5 Z ROCK here in Cincinnati during the summer of 1991. That was back in the days before grunge and gangsta rap ruined everything. I really miss Madd Maxx Hammer, Dave Bolt, Crankin' Craig and Pat Dawsey.
The ZRock commercials were great. I was here in Dallas when it popped out of nowhere, playing Motorhead, Megadeth, Sucidal Tendencies,....etc.... The heavy stuff no other stations would play. And the ads were clever, not the typical idiot rock radio ads. Its a shame it got more and more commericial, i.e.- hair metal and crap. By the time they went off the air I was almost glad. But the early days were really great.
@startheartwalkmwa The problem is that the format was just too radical for mainstream FM radio. It wasn't a format that broadcasters could make enough money off of to keep their operations going. When Z-Rock went away in all markets save for Dallas in late '87, they made a plea to struggling AM stations to pick up the format and at least a dozen did so. When Lee Abrams took over, he wanted to make the format more mainstream and have FMs pick up the format; thus the playlist got watered down.

It lasted like 11 months in Cleveland in 1987. I know they had some sucess in the Detroit market in the early 90's though.
