  • It lasted like 11 months in Cleveland in 1987. I know they had some sucess in the Detroit market in the early 90's though.

  • I still have my Metal Militia dog tags from WCZR in Charleston, WV.

  • Z ROCK was cool for its time. I can remember discovering WZRZ 96.5 Z ROCK here in Cincinnati during the summer of 1991. That was back in the days before grunge and gangsta rap ruined everything. I really miss Madd Maxx Hammer, Dave Bolt, Crankin' Craig and Pat Dawsey.

  • @AmateurEmale Dave Bolt now works for the Classic Rock Experience Network. They have their own website. Check it out.

  • The ZRock commercials were great. I was here in Dallas when it popped out of nowhere, playing Motorhead, Megadeth, Sucidal Tendencies,....etc.... The heavy stuff no other stations would play. And the ads were clever, not the typical idiot rock radio ads. Its a shame it got more and more commericial, i.e.- hair metal and crap. By the time they went off the air I was almost glad. But the early days were really great.

  • @startheartwalkmwa The problem is that the format was just too radical for mainstream FM radio. It wasn't a format that broadcasters could make enough money off of to keep their operations going. When Z-Rock went away in all markets save for Dallas in late '87, they made a plea to struggling AM stations to pick up the format and at least a dozen did so. When Lee Abrams took over, he wanted to make the format more mainstream and have FMs pick up the format; thus the playlist got watered down.

  • Matt Wolf did a great job with those.I miss the Mighty Z Rock.

  • I like that screen saver or visualization. Where do you get those?

  • hell yeah!
